If every single client was constantly reporting to DE's servers, it would functionally be the same as pretending the game wasn't P2P but would require massive infrastructure investments that DE is clearly not willing to make, for reasons we cannot know. Since that isn't going to happen, and therefore Clients will always have to go through the Hosts, if the connection to the Host dies, there's no way for DE to know that you got loot.
