No, they start on wednesday for the same reason patches go out then, so they can fix any major problems thursday and friday instead of just leaving them broken for the weekend. There wouldn't be much sense otherwise, because there is always going to be someone who is busy at that particular time and miss out on everything and someone that is free and full of happyness.
