Quick Damage Math Question

Hey guys, quick question I wonder about

So, with D2.0, blah blah blah, etc

When a damage type; for example, corrosive, gets an additive to it's damage for being against the right enemy [grineer], but the weapon also has some other type of damage which proves ineffective towards the enemy, how would the math work out?

So, my braton which i use for damage testing (lol):

It right now does a bit of magnetic and I think fire aswell.

This would be best diagrammed with a pi chart, but meh. It's tuesday. I'm lazy.

So, if I were fighting grineer, a bad idea, would the entire weapon's damage go down by 50% or would it just be 50% less magnetic?

On the flipside; if the opposite were true; if i were using it on the correct faction, would the entire weapon's damage be boosted? or just the part that's magnetic?

(If you're still having a hard time understanding, keep reading. :P)

Let's pretend:

On my gun, I have

20 magnetic

5 fire

3 physical (1 slash, impact, puncture), for a total of 28 damage.

I start using it on grineer, which is 50% resistant to magnetic.

Would that mean the weapon's stats would be:

10 magnetic

5 fire

3 phys [only that section of damage being halved]

OR:

10 mag

2.5 fire

1.5 phys? [a complete half]

I would think it works the first way, with only that part of the damage being halved.

However, for whatever reason, I go around testing with my braton and it visually looks like it's being completely halved.

So, yeah. I test on a variety of enemies, and I've literally once used the extinguished dragon key and several other types of debuffs on myself in order to reduce my damage to the closest to 1 that I can and count out the HP of some enemies (although i know this is pretty inaccurate; it gives me a decent estimation)

Okay, Tempted to go do a fancy excel thing now.

Let me explain.

If Grineer are 50% resistant to magnetic damage, then instead of dealing 20 Magnetic you would deal 10.

The same goes for fire and your physical damage types too.

Basically, your first scenario is the correct one.
