Renegade343
So the other day, a mathematician was conscripted to his home country's army. He trained for days on end, training his fitness, shooting accuracy, and teamwork. After nine months of gruelling training, he went with his assigned team to capture a point within enemy territory. However, his team failed to do so, and most of the team was wounded, but the mathematician was left unscathed. As he sat down at a bench outside the med bay where his wounded team members rested, he thought that he was the weak link of the team, as he did not do anything to help his team achieve the objective. Noticing the mathematician's sullen look, his superior came to him, and comforted him by saying, "Don't despair about what happened. No matter what, you are still an integral part to your team.". This should be a better constructed joke.

Kamikiri
The punchline just sort of trickled in.. like a busted water tap. Building up the expectation to get to know why the mathmatician came out unscathed, and not expanding upon it just leaves the joke and the reader hanging dry after the first half, which dampens the impact of the punchline as it is almost completely unrelated. I'd say it hardly counts as a joke, but thumbs up for the effort as comedy is not easy.
