Sound Notifications For Receiving Messages

I don't know if it's just me but it's very hard for me to tell when I get a message, or when someone posts in clan chat. I don't know if there is an option somewhere to enable sound notification for messages but if not, I would really like one.

 

Since I know some people are in clans/alliances with hundreds and thousands of people in them, ideally the best way would be to give each chat tab it's own sound in order to allow players to mute each tab they don't want to get sound notifications from.

 

I've looked through the options but nothing jumped out at me. I've had people message me or try to talk to me quite a few times lately and I've missed it simply because I had no idea I've been messaged. Responding to them really late makes me feel crappy. Sometimes in missions you just can't pay that close attention or check for messages, but a sound would alert you to it and you can check it when you're able.

I agree. I hate it when people aren't responding when I message them for a trade.

DE needs to make a configurable chat window that supports multiple chat channels, like any mmo.

How this and a proper party system is not yet in game is beyond my comprehension.

Well, the current chat is technically just a reskinned IRC with some added functionality for the right-click menu. But at it's very heart, it is IRC. And since IRC doesn't support those kind of multi-channels, they'd have to rebuild the chat from absolutely zero.

I think it might actually be a UI issue like someone mentioned, but I would also like audible notifications to receiving private messages.

 

The UI issue I recently encountered is that if you are in the navigation menu the squad chat pops up, with squad and ALL of the other chat tabs ope, I can't see the new tab that popped open if someone messages. I was talking in squad chat with some people and someone from the squad messaged me privately, he literally had to tell me to check the other chat because there was no indication what-so-ever that I had received a message and the tab wasn't visible.

 

I'm playing at 1280x720 resolution, btw. I don't know of chat expands more at higher resolutions but I play windowed since I only own one monitor.
