What Would Be A Good .gif Recorder?

I use GifCam for quick little recordings.

Do note that GIF is an ancient format and is not really suited for recordings of more than a second or two of full-motion video.  When I go to make an example gif of something I do normal video recordings of Warframe, and then go back and record only the part I want to post with gifcam.

Is it reliable? What I'm trying to do is to record combos of melee.

On that note, do you know a very good .gif compressor? I tried gfycat, but it's converted to video of which I don't want it.

GIF is, outside of the palette limitation, lossless.  There is no compression, only conversion to something else.  Files are huge because, like I said, GIF is an ancient format not meant to be used for actual videos.
