Mobile Defense 2.0 - Make It More Fun, Challenging And Give 3 Rewards

A.K.A making mobile defense more interesting, and differentiated from other missions.

Mobile defense is too much like a Defense, with 3 waves. Boring for a number of reasons. Does not provide enough challenge, does provide only a single reward. Compare to Sabotage: that has 3 rewards in the caches, plus the mission reward. Compare to capture or exterminate: one reward, but a more straightforward, quick target.

What Mobile Defense needs?

In my opinion, it needs some twist for each console to become harder, to justify giving the player 1 reward per console.

No-nos: instakill, non-regenerating HP, that sort of sillyness which makes the target a 1 HP wonder, and becomes instadeath at high levels.

THE TWIST: Make Mobile Defense Truly Mobile.

Get concepts from Capture mission and integrate into the mobile defense. Instead of attacking the Capture Target, the player will have to defend it. Unlike the Rescue mission, the Capture target won't wait for the player, it will run towards his exit.

If it dies, that reward is lost but the player can still try the others.

1) No more wallet at mission start.

2) VIP target will be bunkered in a locked room close to 2 consoles.

3) Players hack one of the 2 consoles to start the countdown.

4) if enemy triggers any of the 2 consoles, countdown cancels and player must start over.

5) If player fails 3 times, VIP target suicides out of desperation.

6) Once countdown ends, VIP targets starts racing for the escape pod like in any capture mission.

7) Players must aggro enemies and protect the capture target.

8) Players may revive it twice, on third it's instadeath.

That warrants more challenge IMO. Will be more fun since it requires more activity, and justifies 3 rewards per mission.

It meshes elements from rescue, defense, md, interception and capture, in an original mix.

Who would be the VIP target?

Grineer: Hacked Roller or Bailiff Defector or VIP Heavy Unit.

Corpus: Hacked MOA or VIP Crewman, or VIP new modular unit.

Orokin: Hacked MOA.

Infested: Infested Alad V? Or Any Corpus/Grineer VIP.

I, too, like this.

It's funny you bring this up because I ran 2 MD missions this morning and just found them so...."M'EH!" It's the one game-type that I wish had enemy scaling just to make it a bit more of a challenge.

Using T1MD as an example:

Start enemies out at level 10-15 as players get to 1st console.

Successful hack of 1st console going to 2nd: 15-20

Successful hack of 2nd console going to 3rd: 20-25

Successful hack of 3rd console and head to extraction: 25-30
