What If We're Just Being Used; What If It's All A Lie?

The Grineer are xenophobic scumbag inbred tube-bred racists hellbent on genocide and solar domination.

The Tenno are brainwashed marauding terrorists, killing and stealing their way through the galaxy.

The Corpus just want to make money. They have a pretty good thing going out on the moons of Neptune, Triton being the most likely candidate for a homeworld. They care enough about their own people to let robots do most of their fighting, thus minimizing losses.

Allow me to place this into a new perspective.

Tom Corpus is a crewman on the UCF Khelera, a research vessel transporting archeological artifacts back to the homeworld. He's got a pretty good thing going. He's military, but stationed on a ship in a non-combative role, probably repairing broken bots and making sure everything's working right at his workplace. Back home, he has a wife and son. Fortunately for Tom, the Khelera is on its way back to Triton to drop off the artifact, so he's due for some shoreleave with his family. They're so close to Neptune that they can see that blue pearl out in the distance from the ship's viewports.

Suddenly, alarms. Everything's going haywire and the shipboard AI is telling everyone there's been a security breach and some stowaway lifeforms are rampaging through the ship. Tom runs to the armory to load up and switch on some Moas, groups up with a team, and starts digging in around the artifact storage unit. Suddenly, a secure door is breached and all hell breaks loose. Tom Corpus takes a high caliber round to the helmet and goes spinning over a railing.

Tom's bleeding out. He watches the Tenno pilfer the precious archeological artifact, and they dart off. Minutes go by without help. And then suddenly, Tom hears the shipboard AI say something that makes his heart freeze in fear.

Timmy Corpus is sitting in his 23rd story apartment building on Triton, stargazing. He looks out along the edge of Neptune, and sees a shooting star off past it in the darkness. He runs to his mother excitedly, telling her he saw it.

"Did you make a wish?" she asks.

He nods emphatically. "Yeah! I wish for daddy to come home!"

His mother just smiles. He called her earlier. She knew he'd be home later that evening.

...

But if only she knew.

What if we don't mind or even care if we are being used?

As long we get our Mods, our Loot, our Credits...

and the chance to inflict horror/pain/death.

Since Tenno are basically prevented by the Laws of the Universe to harm each other directly, we'll just have to take it out on some (or ANY) poor dudes in whatever faction that isn't Tenno.

If Lotus is evil, are we that different? :P

It's simple.

Long ago, the Orokin/Tenno waged war against a mysterious faction. For this purpose, they created the infested. The infested were created by the orokin for the sole purpose of fighting this mysterious group, and are therefore on the same side as the tenno.

The tenno go in to deep cryosleep after this war. You are awoken by a mysterious woman who reveals nothing about herself. She seems knowledgeable about the infested, wishes for you to steal various orokin artifacts from other groups, and also has you murder infested at every available opportunity.

The infested cry out, "we are of your flesh, why do you oppose us?" The infested remember they are your brethren, tenno. They wonder why you murder them.

Why?

Because Lotus is a survivor of this mysterious other faction from the Orokin war. Now she is awakening tenno, purposefully erasing their memories and disguising it as amnesia, and sending them to their deaths, allowing them to plunder orokin technology, kill corpus/grineer, and destroy the infested, the one group that was capable of opposing her people, under the guise of "Destroying the enemies of the Tenno".

It is win/win for her. If the Tenno she controls live, they kill her enemies and acquire technology for her. If they die, that's one less Tenno she has to deal with when she comes out from the shadows.

SINISTER INDEED.
