[Solved] 90% Damage Elemental Mod Behaviour

Question

Hi Tenno, 

i got a question for you. If i understand well, the way chilling grasp mod works is

(Impact + puncture + slash) x 0,9 = cold damage

For veykor Hek (78.8+341.3+105)x0.9 = 472.5 this is ok

With Point Blank : (196.4+850.8+261.8)x0.9=1178.1 still ok

But with breach loader : (78.8+750.8+105)x0.9 = 841.14 not 472.5

I dont understand, can u explain why ?

There're multiple "paths" in the hirarchy of mods scaling off each other:

         Base Damage+BaseDamageMods

                                  |

               +-------------+-----------+

     All Elemental Mods          Physical Mods

                                  |
                  Faction Damage Bonus
                                  |
                     Defense Modifiers
 
In this diagram, bonus on different levels get multiplied, and on the same level are additive. So +50% Fire and +60% Puncture result in a total +110%(100*(0.5+0.6)) Damage, but +50% Base and +60% Fire result in 240% total damage. (100*0.5*0.6)
That's why Base Damage and Race mods are so incredible strong: Because they affect all other damage mods multiplicatively.

Elemental mods give you damage based on a percentage of your base damage. This includes base damage and +damage mods.

 

Physical damage (IPS) mods give you damage based on a percentage of THAT damage type in your base damage.

 

IPS mods do not increase the base damage where elementals are calculated. They just behave like crappy elemental mods.

So to (attempt to) simplify what these guys are saying, Breach Loader increases Puncture Damage. Chilling Grasp scales from the BASE (+Point Blank and Blaze) damage, not the total of Impact, Puncture and Slash, much like how Physique (+18% Health Aura mod) scales off BASE health, so Vitality doesn't affect it.
