They don't.

Different types of mobs wear ferrite and alloy.  Generally fodder and the Heavy Gunner wear ferrite, while "elites" and other heavies wear alloy.  Its dependent on what they are, and influences what damage types work better on them.

As you fight higher level enemies the amount of armor they have increases, which progressively reduces the damage they receive from normal damage types.

I was too slow, again. He is correct.

I`ll just note that there is a bit of an exception with the grineer lancer. The standard lancer wears ferite armor but as the levels go above 15 his Elite variant is introduced and its equipped with alloy armor.

Armor type isn't determined by level it's determined by enemy the only non-boss grineer that have this armor type are Baliffs, Bombards, Elite Lancers, Evicerators, and Napalms

Full list of enemies with that armor type can be found here: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0/Alloy_Armor

So you would say that running with a weapon that is built for viral and radiation with corrosive projection aura would be optimal in most situations when dealing with armored enemies?

Viral damage is excellent against grineer health  (+75% damage bonus) and all of their units posses it. Radiation deals the same bonus to enemies with alloy armor which is worn by their heaviest units, the ones you want to die as fast as possible. So, yes, in short. However, keep in mind that if you`re running a squad with 4x Corrosive Projections(Or 3x CPs + Coaction drift aura) then the grineer armor will be stripped entirely, leaving only flesh. This mean that elemental damage with a damage bonus to armor (such as corrosive or radiation) will lose that bonus.

Most weapons I run are built for viral since it cuts enemy health in half but it does a lot of bonus damage to grineer so it would be a good choice if you're trying to run elementals as for radiation while it is good for heavies It'd probably be better to run corrosive for most grineer missions unless you have a squad with 4 corrosive projections in which case you may as well run fire or something unless you're looking for the radiation proc which is only really useful on weapons that can chain (Atomos, Amprex, ect.)
