How does one access the orokin vaults in the void?

I've heard you need a dragon key however I have never seen a vault, so how often do they also appear?

They're not in the Void, they're in The Derelict, which may explain why you've never seen one.

Do any Orokin Derelict mission that isn't Defense or Survival (don't quote me on survival) and it'll probably appear. Note that the doors need a specific key so unless you're in a team of 4 (all with a different key) then there's a low chance it'll work out.

They are guaranteed to appear in any derelict mission except defense. A random vault, which can be unlocked with one of the four keys (One key matches one vault so you'll want 4 squad members to guarantee access to the mod), will spawn somewhere. The reward is random and everyone will get it (Not just the person who collects the artifact).

Ah that kind of explains it but how often do they appear in the void and is there a sure fire way to get them to appear e.g. specific mission is more likely than another?

I've never done a derelict exterminate without finding a vault. Be sure to bring a full squad with all the different dragon keys so you're sure you can actually enter the vault ;)

Is a guarantee to show at any derelict mission except defense

Vault guaranteed appears on extrermination. If you play solo, take one key which won't affect your frame (e.g. rhino + blood dragon key), now you have 25% chance to access vault. Find vault, if your key won't fit just abort mission, repeat...
