Nevarmoore
From April 2004, the original concept for Dark Sector found Hayden Tenno, a key operative for the Lotus Rebellion, in the far reaches of space infiltrating a Grineer intelligence base. The first footage ever seen for the next-gen console systems at the time was heralded by many as an exciting new direction in action gaming. However, soon after, publisher involvement changed the direction of the game by altering the setting to Earth and bringing it back to real-day timing and scenarios as seen in the shipped game in 2008. Artekkor
Moral of the story: (some) publishers suck. What a way to derail a beautiful original concept into a generic shooter.
CityOfTrees
If Warframe is a generic shooter, then I am Gandhi. Edited November 24, 2016 by BeeOverlord
Othergrunty
There is also an interesting article from a gaming website, which details what went wrong with Dark Sector. The Corpus space suits seen at the end of the original demo video actualy appeared on the Jupiter tilset as easter eggs. Btw. One of the devstreams from i think 2014 actualy had Steve show alpha footage of Warframe, in which the suit from that 2004 demo was still used. Apperently Excalibur, Loki and Rhino are the oldest frame concepts, but were at first just modifications of the same suit (the one from that video). Seeing how Hayden could armor up his suit that was likely some kind of "rhino mode". Would be cool if that suit could also become a premium skin for Excalibur. But i fear the model is too low res for that.
