Emblem help

Question

Looking for some advice on how to design a good clan emblem, does anyone have any helpful tips or tricks to make a really nice one? I have some concepts I've put together, and they are the roughest of rough drafts, but I'd really love some notes or ideas for them. If nothing else, some clan emblems you really like could also help to give me ideas. Thank you in advance!

That thread served me well when I tried to design an emblem.  From my own experience, you don't want to have too many fine lines and details.  Contrast is good.  Avoid whites and very light colors if you can.  Transparency is fine.  You don't necessarily need to work in vector, but you should do the bulk of your work in larger image size and then shrink it down to appropriate size at the end.  This will give you a clean looking image.

Your work in progress is good so far.  Keep at it.

Well, don't make it in any way similar to this one because it will turn out horribly pixelated. :D

My inexperienced tip: try to avoid lots of small details all crowded together.

Here's a few more images, maybe they'll give you an idea of how stuff can turn out:

You're concepts are good, nice and simple.  Try to avoid really thin lines, especially if the background behind them is transparent.  If parts of your emblem are dark then consider adding a little bit of glow or outline behind them to make them stand out against the game's mostly dark backgrounds.  Try testing it at 128x128 early and often to see how it's going to look.

As for the brightness problem, @xiaodenden's link is also where I learned from.  Basically, make your image how you want it too look at full brightness, then apply a flat dimmer to the whole image so it's max intensity is at about 190/255.
