Is Orthos Or Scindo Better?

Scindo has a knockdown on jump attacks, but can only hit a max of 3-4 targets on each radial swing and is slower than the Orthos.

The Orthos can hit up to 5 targets with its charge/slide attack, but its charge attack does not swing at a 360 degree angle. Also, it doesn't have the Scindo's knockdown on its jump attack.

Both are pretty equal are far as charge attacks are concerned. While Orthos has a bit higher base charge damage, scindo hits 360 degrees around you with the charge attack. This coupled with a reach mod and you can hit everything in a pretty large radius with the charge attack.

For normal attacks scindo is better due to better attack cycles/moveset and the normal attacks that slam the ground inflict elemental effect to a radius around you (especially useful with a freeze mod).

I prefer Gram and Glaive. Gram because it has faster swing then Scindo and it has a 360 degree hit box, knockdown and same charge damage as the two. Glaive because it's the only viable melee in higher rounds. You won't see people charging up to mobs to melee them so Glaive's reach makes it more viable.

Orthos is for areas that present little or no challenge. It hits the most targets at the highest speed but is the easiest to stagger and has a wonky combo. Stagger resist and the combo don't matter if you're one shotting everything.

Scindo is the extreme anti-infested weapon. With the Manticore skin it will do the most damage per light attack swing of all weapons and preserve your ability to one hit kill light infested enemies with light attacks to as high a level as possible. It hits a large area and is very difficult to stagger with an excellent combo. It is slow with the manticore skin, but again we're talking at the extremes. With lots of speed mods it's fine.

HATE is the same damage as Scindo and still does 3x damage to infested, but it doesn't get the bump from the Manticore Axe skin so it's light attacks do less. It will also hit a smaller area. For this tradeoff you get to ignore the enemy's armor with your regular attacks... but that's not really useful... you'll be charge attacking anything with armor anyway and charge attacks always ignore the armor. If you plan to spam light attacks on Grineer or corpus Moas maybe this is for you, otherwise only take this over Scindo if you just like the style.

Honorable mention to the Gram. If you cross that threshold and you can't one shot light infested with your light attacks anymore but you really like heavy weapons, the Gram will give you a compromise between the stagger resistance of the Scindo/Hate and the speed of the Orthos with an excellent combo so you can two shot them efficiently.

Scindo's charge damage is the same as Orthos

I believe the Orthos (and def the prime) has a longer base reach than the Scindo as well, and on slide attacks. The lack of knockdown from a jump attack can be a pain tho. Personally I avoid it for defense missions, where that AoE knockdown can sometimes save a teammate or the cryotube/core.
