Gilgamesh-The Weapon Specialist (+Quest) [Warframe Concept]

Lore

Back before even the sentient war, there was an engineer obsessed with the creation of weapons. Some so powerful he never let them leave his workshop, in order to prevent genocides. This obsession, however, drove him mad in his seek for perfection. A weapon so powerful, not everybody can wield it, a weapon so powerful it sustains itself and can last in every situation. A warframe.

After spending decades secretly researching and engineering this masterpiece, he melted every single one of his past creations into this one. He thought this weapon would make him a god, however that was before the technocyte virus. Soon after its appearance he rushed to finish his creation in order to save himself but he was too late.

Now this creation remains unfinished, maybe it is in the right place because even so its power is hardly matched. Nicknamed: King of Kings (based on his creator’s dream); Gilgamesh is the ultimate weapon specialist.

Since the sentients found out about this weapon later on, they moved it in their sanctuary with hopes that they can finish it and win the war. However, they could not figure out what the warframe needed in order to be completed and be omnipotent as its creator designed it.

Its remains however are still within the void, awaiting a master.

Name

The name's inspiration originally came from the anime (this makes me sad) but with a little bit of research the name turned out to be quite interesting.

"Gilgamesh is a demigod of superhuman strength who built the city walls of Uruk to defend his people and travelled to meet the sage Utnapishtim, who survived the Great Deluge."-wiki

Inspirations

My inspiration for this frame were Ironhide the “Weapon Specialist” from Transformers as well as Gilgamesh from Fate Zero.

Ironhide

Ironhide is an autobot who carries an arsenal of heavy explosives being the best at using them (movie description).

“I am a soldier. I am made for war.”

Gilgamesh

Having an entire weapon arsenal, I thought the name was fitting for the power of this frame.

"I am the bone of my sword.

Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.

I have created over a thousand blades,

Unknown to death,

Nor known to life.”

Appearance

Head

The creator never designed the helmet with eyes because he was blind, he knew that sight was not necessary. The entire helmet resembles (vaguely) a skull, mixing in robotic parts with the organic ones.

Body

Main body is a mix between streamline organic aesthetic and robotic parts.

Centre pieces on the chest are metallic and very hard whilst the outer pieces are organic.

The small gaps between the plate pieces glow brighter as the frame heats up. The organic part has very slight innate glow upon max heat up.

Back

The back has the spine much more outward than usual. It is said that it was needed for the energy conversions to happen within the interior. The bottom also leads as to what would be a tail, however that part was never developed. The entire back is metallic and symmetric, resembling the more perfected and robotic side of the frame.

The small gaps between the spine glow brighter as the frame heats up.

Legs

The lower part of the leg is metallic and robotic and the upper part is organic.

Arms

These are more important that you’d think because they hold the gun and blade. The arm is indeed very strong on this frame in order to hold this machinery. His hands look normal but on the side of the arm you can see the edges of the blade pieces and around the wrist locates the barrel of the gun.

Gun

From the back you can see the propulsor that launches the projectiles, it spins faster as you fire it and glows brighter as the weapon heats up.

The blue represents parts that glows, some spin. Size and all is unthought so it is not done to scale:

bejafc.jpg

Blade

The blade has symbols on it, drawn by the creator but nobody knows what they mean. These symbols glow along with the outlines on the blade itself as the weapon heats itself up.

This is only a work in progress of a simple concept I plan to make:

mrz3mr.jpg

Acquisition (Quest-King of Kings)

.....::Only the steps 1-4 can be completed in squads::.....

Step 1

You need to do T4 Capture missions in order to receive the coded message. (40% chance of dropping)

Step 2

In order to decipher the messages you need to gather some Orokin Ciphers from the Derelict (7).

Step 3

The Lotus will tell you about leads on this quest as well as reveal the first part of the lore. To let you know about what it is you are finding. The next step is to find more about it, so you are to run a MD T3 mission (given upon completing the step), Ordis says “There appears to be a Void key here, you should explore it.” Tagged as a “Mysterious Key” you can then run it with your squad if you so choose to.

Step 4

Having more lore revealed. You know more about this, so you find another mysterious key. This will lead you to have the full story as well as end with “Cut off one of its heads and another appears” leaving off another mysterious key, which is described by Ordis to be very unstable as well as release lots of energy.

Step 5 Hydra Mini Boss Fight

……:::You can only have a certain conclave rating:::……

“So you seek this weapon? What makes you sure you can wield it?”-Hydra

Appearance

This boss is around a water level set. Its appearance is small however with one head.

Resembling a mix between reptile and snake.

Hydra_vs_Monk.jpg

Combat

_-Upclose-_

Fast weak attack with claws, heavy slow attack with tail or biting with the heads relatively quick (5 bites is a slash proc at 5 damage or so).

_-Ranged-_

The heads can spit venom at you (they charge up), at 6 hits you are poison procced (takes 4 seconds for counter of hits to clear).

After you take off one head another 2 pop out (each time) having a maximum of 15 heads. Damage to the body is hard however its weak spot is the back.

Once 15 heads are present, they fall off and they seek you as snakes (weak heads so not much to worry about). This leaves the main body struggling down to the ground trying to regenerate another head, you have 5 seconds to go behind it to damage it.

Arena and Movement

Occasionally the Hydra will move around underwater in order to avoid you and can pop around from different directions or you can seek it and it will swim twice as fast as you.

Overall on land the Hydra is much slower so if you can wall run around it fast enough you can damage it more and more.

After defeating the miniboss it simply cowers away, into a hole saying “You have defeated me, I have failed my job, may my sisters avenge me.”

Finishing, you receive the helmet and then another mysterious key leading to the next step.

Message at the end: “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.”

Step 6 Kelosh Mini Boss fight

……:::You can only have a melee weapon as well as conclave limitation (lower than before):::……

Upon entering the arena you enter this strange jungle habitats and you hear growls and shadows moving behind you: “Men are beasts and even beasts don’t behave like they do.” As the fight begins:

Appearance

The appearance of the enemy is a modified human-ish with tiger/leopard resemblances. Having golden energy for a tail and sprouting out of his eyes (as if he is crying) as well as his melee weapon.

Something like Kraven from Spider-Man:

250px-KravenTheHunterByJohnRomitaSr.gif

Combat

Initially when it starts a leopard pounces on you (golden energy eyes) and you have to tap meele to quickly kill it. Then out of the brush the boss appears and roars.

He then rushes towards you where you have a melee fight with each other.

There are other enemies around however they are at the very side of the arena and they only attack you if you get too close (leopards stagger you back). However if you kill them, Kelosh is weakened by a lot.

That is sequence one.

Once you drop his health below 40%, sequence two begins:

“Do you know why they call me the beast master?””Huh, let me give you a hint. These beasts do my bidding out of fear!”

He then transforms into a relatively large monster that is fast and deadly.

You don’t have much options but to take him head on, however you can weaken him (mini stuns) by leading him to run into strong objects around the level. (some are destructible).

Here he can eat other creatures to regen his health. (5 times maximum, never going above 80%, regenerates 10-15% if fully done). You can stop him but it won’t be easy

Upon defeat he dies and says “My brothers, I am sorry.”

Upon exit, you receive the systems as well as another mysterious key with this message:

“All I can do is put on my armor and brace for arrows.”

Step 7 Nocturnal Queen Mini Boss Fight

……:::You cannot have a primary with you in this mission:::……

Upon entering the arena you see a message “Seeing is not believing.”

You enter this black empty room, (can’t see very far) and you see a circle in the middle, which is where you must stand to activate the fight.

Then you see a light in front of you that gets bigger and bigger which eventually releases a white energy arrow at you staggering you but not much damage dealt (unless you dodge it).

This is the first 30 seconds of the fight, where ever an arrow will travel a small flash of a white laser appears for 1 seconds and then turns into very light white dust (so you know where the arrows travel).

The more you get hit, the more damage it does. Each hit staggers you for a second and arrows constantly appear.

Afterwards, she says “Haha, I am just messing with you silly! [pause] I like to be the last thing my prey sees before they die…”

Then the entire arena lights up, not very tall, in fact very small. Few columns here and there (they get destroyed after a while so you can’t hide behind them too much):

zero2.jpg

Appearance

She looks like a vampire hunter. Except she carries a lot of weapons with her

cfff9db3866cb8fb9c4f4aa8b56459c2.jpg

She has small claws (similar to Valkyr’s but more vampiric).

She laughs hysterically a lot and says quirky jokes, looking around the arena you see lots of blood, gore and dead people.

Combat

The first weapon she will use is a minigun that fires bolts (1.2 bolts per second) dealing moderate damage, however each staggers you for 0.5 seconds. If you sprint her aim will lag behind because of how heavy it is, she won’t move much with it.

Max ammo: 500 bolts.

Her second weapon is is an LMG that fires heavier bigger bolts that staggers you for longer as well as electrocute you (0.7 bolts per second).

Max ammo: 200 bolts.

She moves around faster with this.

Her third weapon is a grenade launcher that bounces a lot, dealing moderate damage and staggers you when it would normally throw you down (the blast proc). (0.5 grenades per second)

Max ammo: 30 grenades

She moves around faster with this.

Her fourth weapon are her claws which allows her to be very fast at running and attacking, her claws are not weak however and you can counter them by blocking with melee or keeping away from her.

She uses the weapons in that order and you can damage her anytime, if you can do so without dying.

Upon defeat she says “There is more where that came from.” and then dissipates into golden energy.

Upon leaving you receive the chassis and another key with the message:

“You approach the unattainable truth through the succession of errors.”

Step 8 King’s Guard Boss Fight

……:::Conclave rating limited (relatively high but not insane).:::……

You enter this huge golden arena, at the end of it is a giant throne with a robotic/egyptian figure sitting on it.

“I see you have defeated my minions. Maybe they underestimated you, but I will not do the same!”

Appearance

Yeah this was sort of influenced by Nasus from LoL but he would look really interesting with the Warframe aesthetic added and the combat animations in too.

GalacticNasus.jpg

294h45g.jpg

^minus the wings

Combat

Despite being very large this enemy moves quite fast.

The first sequence involves him using a grenade launcher that pinpoints on the ground where it will land (large circle closing in) dealing lots of damage. If you get too close to him he will move his hand and use a force ability to throw you away (like Banshee’s ability but golden).

Second sequence is he uses a glass bow that spawns in arrows when he pulls the string back (it looks cool). The arrows are very big and if they hit an object they go through up to ¼. So if you hide behind a thin wall it will pierce you. Deals very high damage and if it is a one hit kill, it will limit your health at 1hp, so you have a fighting chance.

The third sequence is the most exciting one.

He shouts

“As the sands of time move, the sun rises in the east and the cycle of life continues. I will live and you will die!”

He pulls out a stick that transforms into a polearm that looks something like this:

monks-spade.jpg

He uses polearm animations and is in a rage mode (he moves much faster, keeping pressure on the player even more).

To get him from sequence to sequence you have to damage him somewhat, he will be at 30% health upon entering the last and hardest sequence.

Upon his death he says “I am merely a guardian, not the first and not the last.”

Upon leaving you receive the blueprint and The Lotus says:

“Tenno. You have done it. The skill and power that you have acquired so far has carried you through one of the most dangerous journeys yet.”

Giving you positive reinforcement for playing the game this long and making an illusion of some progress being made.

You can now fully build the weapon specialist! Yeah it is worth it.

Abilities

Ability 1-Flak: He transforms his fist into the cannon and fires a spinning hot ball of shreds of metal.

-Damage is dealt the closer you are to the centre

-Enemies are pushed back at close range (opposite direction of the ball) and staggered at longer ranges (3m away from centre)

-Distance is 10m, you cannot modify this

-The further the distance the more damage but the lower the area of effect on spinning (less metal to release) because this uncovers the really hot core.

-Takes 2.5 seconds to charge up the ability (it is a delay to it being fired)

-Takes 7 seconds for new flak to be available

Ability 2-Transform: Gilgamesh channels up energy to turn his hands into weapons.

Upon button press ability 1 and 3 change into the following:

1.Use gun

2.Use blade

The way this mechanic works is by going from Right to Left. So if I press 1 then 2, my right hand will be a cannon and the left will be a blade.

Matching weapons are when both equipped are cannons or blades, not a mix.

-Uses 30 energy flat (not affected by mods)

-Pressing 2 again, will return it back to normal

Ability 3-Mastery (passive): Gilgamesh uses his innate knowledge of weaponry to his advantage.

Enemy weapons have a 49% chance to jam when they are around him. Whilst allies have 10% increased damage, 10% fire rate, 15% status chance, 15% critical chance bonus (this one does not apply to him), 20% faster reload. There is also a 20% chance that a projectile that hit you gives you 20 energy.

-Lasts for 10 seconds from killing an enemy

-Does not stack with kills

-Only damage stacks between multiple instances of the same aura (more than one person playing this frame).

-Aura distance is 20-30m

-Has a 60-75% chance to activate upon killing an enemy

-Toggeable

-Does use 5 energy per second when active

^this is at max rank and none of the values are changeable (affected by mods).

Ability 4-Weapon Synergy (available only when transform has two matching weapons):

Gilgamesh networks his weapons in synchronization so he is in full control.

-Uses 100 energy like other ultimates

-2 second animation of arms being more enforced

-If there are 4 or more enemies around, one will be selected at random and highlighted, if you kill this target and then continue to kill other highlighted targets without breaking the combo you receive 30 energy per 3 consecutive kills (counter available and 5 seconds between each kill)

-Range is 20m (not changeable)

-Lasts for however long you want

-Being fully without energy will cause your character to fall to its knees and the hands transforming back (steam released). duration is around 5-7 seconds

-Locks down other abilities to make space for new ones

Gun Synergy

-15% faster rate of fire

-Every 15 shots per gun you also fire an explosive heavy round

-Every shot staggers enemies briefly

-Uses twice the energy

-Further abilities:

1. Flak-Gilgamesh channels up hot bits of metal into a ball to release upon his foes.

-Is kept the same except does it with two, the second shot costing half the energy

-Costs 25 energy

-It takes 10 seconds until a new flak ball is produced

2. Rocket Jump-Gilgamesh channels his cannons so that he can use them to gain positional advantage at a small cost.

-Has a 2 second delay and throws you pretty high in the air, takes away 200 shields.

-Costs 50 energy

3. Grenadier-Gilgamesh charges up a heavy toxic smoke grenade to fire at enemies.

-When you press you have a marker showing where the grenade would go, you then fire it in the air and it lands at target location (not suitable for low height places).

-Blocks enemy sight

-Smokes out enemies

-Does toxic damage to them

-Pretty large area, radius is 4m

-Lasts for 10 seconds

-Costs 75 energy

-Takes 10 seconds for a new grenade to be available

Blade Synergy

-20% faster attacks

-10% life steal

-Combo available

-Uses twice the energy

-Further abilities:

1. Ethereal Dash-Gilgamesh channels up to dash forwards in an ethereal form.

-Channeling time 1.5 seconds

-Distance is very short to balance it with Excalibur

-Uses 25 energy

2.

3. Energy Shield-Gilgamesh digs his blades into the ground and charges them. This creates an energy shield.  (similar to Volt's)

-Duration is calculated by how much energy you charge in. duration=energy/10

-Causes you to be completely without weapons

-Bonus radiation damage

-Blocks only one direction

-Actually deflects projectiles (can send them back)

-You can stop it earlier and receive back the energy:

<->If you do this, the shield flies back to you with the blades re-attaching themselves to you (does slash damage to enemy, calculated by damage=energy*10

-Initial cast uses 75 energy

-Animation takes 1.5 seconds to complete and 0.5 seconds for shield to activate

The Guns: Upon using a gun you have sort of a minigun that fires continuously so long as you have the energy to sustain it.

-Damage is affected by mods on primary

-Effective range is affected by mods on the frame (so spread isn’t as bad depending on your range)

-Uses 1 energy for two bullets or 0.5 energy per bullet (unaffected by mods)

-Can overheat, if it reaches 100% you have to let it cooldown to 20%

-Movement speed reduced by 20% (per gun)

The Blades: Upon using a blade you have basic fast attacks available.

-Attack speed is based on melee (however it is capped)

-Damage is based on melee as well as frame

-Uses 3-5 energy per hit on enemy

-Can also overheat, except it is slower and damage is affected less

-Movement speed increased by 5%

To use either of these you press the corresponding button, LMB for left hand and RMB for right hand, for controller it is normal fire button for left hand and special fire/aim in for right hand.

Notes

-The bosses can be re-used in other Void missions (possibly T5) as none of them are unique, as given by their dialogue

-The power of the frame is balanced by its reliance on energy as well as acquisition, clearly a high end level frame

-When heating up both the blades and guns light up more becoming very bright (not insane for our Bloom users) upon max heat, color affected by energy color.

-When I say bonus I mean tacked on whatever else, not based on that value

Work in progress.

Please provide constructive feedback, thanks!

-Concept Art in progress, any more artists are welcome-

Gilgamesh reminds me of the Mesopotamian poem which predates that anime by quite some time. (The wiki link doesn't actually tell much about the original poem though.) I remember having to read the translated works in school for literature class. Hmmm. Think most of the people who read it took offense because he was always raping random women in it though.

Yeah, that would be a good thing. Not only did it have some morally questionable topics (for current societal standards) in it...it was also relatively repetitive/monotonous which made it seem really long and drawn out. I mean a great achievement for the time it was written...especially since they "wrote" it down with flat sticks on clay tablets...but...

Aside from the name, is there anything else that is odd?

Haha, yeah, sorry. I got distracted by the name. :) Not really familiar with that particular anime either.

I dunno, idea seems cool. I don't really pay too close attention to stats, so I don't have them memorized. The base stats seem like they're pretty high/good. I do like how you continued the theme with Mirage in which there is a quest you have to do to get the frame. Dunno how well the whole conclave rating thing will go over with the masses seeing the complaints about the recent Tactical Alert. However, the big difference there I assume is that you won't have to run the different stages of the quest over and over and pray to the RNG deities that you get the part you need/want. Skills might need some tweaking for balance. Seems like in a lot of instances, such as Defense (or when a Survival really gets rolling), etc. you would be able to maintain your ultimate for pretty much the whole wave before needing to restart it... Plus it means infinite energy.

Anyhow, never really put much thought into creating concepts for new frames or weapons, etc.

In regards to the ultimate, I thought that by having that minigame it would stop mindless play and make you focus, because if you miss a target you miss out on a great deal of energy on which the frame is heavily reliant. Also you have to look at various costs, 130 cost to do the whole thing as well as taking time for animations.

I don't know, I will keep a close eye on that

I like the complexity of the frame and there are some nice ideas here. one suggestion though, I think some skills cost too much energy ex.: the rocket jump costing 75 energy wich is a hefty price for just a jump. If you think about it excaliburs jump costs far less and even valkyrs ripline only cost 25 energy. Maybe some of those skills need some balancin with the energy. Let some cost more and some less.

I will swap it with grenadier so it is base 50 energy, which most people will have energy efficiency on.

Anything else specifically? Thanks :)

The frame seems really interesting, has a lot of depth and covers a lot of playstyles but is yet balanced by its own personal requirements on the battlefield

This part:

"I am the bone of my sword.

Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.

I have created over a thousand blades,

Unknown to death,

Nor known to life.”

Is not from gilgamesh but from emiya when he turned into a counter-guardian though...

The king of heroes has no need for such a chant to get his weapons when he can just use his gate of babylon as a shield or to fire his weapons after all.

The third ability looks a bit weird though. It is supposed to be a passive, but is also toggleable? Might wanna pick just one of the two right? Making it a passive means you don't toggle it since it is always active, like those passive health increases in other games. You get a skill that would passively increase health for example, and that increase is always activated without it draining anything besides the skill points needed to get the skill.

Ahh yes, (the quote was half put there on purpose) The Wiki posted it under Gilgamesh because I think either I looked at wrong page or the person who wrote it was confused between Archer from Fate Zero to Stay Night :)

Either way I love that quote so I thought it was a worthy mention.

As for the passive, I'd like all passives to have the option to be turned off if so desired, simply because of options :)

It would be on by default

Might as well call his 4th ability "Umlimited Blade Works" hehe...get it? xD

But no seriously...3rd frame that could actually have a voice...for those of you that don't know what i mean...1st was rhino...2nd was valkyr...now this guy.

You sure put a smile on my face :D

I also agree, we need more "voiced" frames ^^
