Grineers Wearing New Backpack Gear

Question

I have seen random grineers wearing new backpack gear. (Elite lancer, trooper, seeker... etc)

What is that?

I thought they will drop something, but... no...

Instead, it acts like a shield... you can not damage their back now. :(

And it's different than a shield, it can not be disarmed, cannot be punch-through.

Is this intended design? O.O

Not sure if it prevent stealth back stab though. ->Stealth finisher works

And killed unit will have some visual glitches with that back pack floating (if killed by certain skills). :/

Edit:

I have added some screenshots...

Which shows something very weird xD

More test~

Point Blank Shot on target 2, full charge Dread: Arrow was deflected

This picture was taken a little slower after I shot, but I swear it was a perfect hit. (as you can see there are some fading splash effect caused by the arrow collision.)

Well let's try again...

WTF, punch-through worked...

I am more confused now.

I found this is kinda annoying when I try to earn some Simaris scan points.

I usually equip scanner and do it stealth for bonus, and kill them with melee after scanned, so I don't have to swap weapons.

But this backpack blocks melee attacks, forcing me to use stealth finisher or swap weapons which is very slow. :/

God them things creep me out....from the weird sound they seem to make to the fact that when you hit em they jiggle. Honestly thought it was alive and was gonna be some weird slime type thing~

Haha I saw that face too.

There is another version can be used as a stationary turret?

This thing is somewhat OP.

It can not be damaged by any weapon.

It cannot be punch-through.

Almost everyone has this in some maps.

Everyone's back is the best shield...

Are you joking? It can be easily destroyed AND punch-through works.

You sure? before they activate it, I mean on their back.

I use lex prime shot at it, it just doesn't even pop any damage.

I use my Drakgoon full charge shot (2m punch-through), all pellets are reflected.

Same thing can punch-through shield lancer correctly though.

Wat? It's easy do destroy 3-4 shoot from Dread and it's gone

Ohhhhh, you should have specified then, apologies!

I haven't found it to be too difficult to kill the Grinner carrying them though.

On an unrelated note, is the Drakgoon good now?

Yes, drakgoon is a beast now, same as the hek. Took into a T4 mission today and it basically two shots Corrupted Vor now.

Also, I hardly ever see these grineer deploying these blunts outside of survival missions. Most of them just walk around with it on their back.

I also find it anoying that you cant shoot trough that thing when it isnt deployed yet. Makes flanking the grineer less effective.

Edit: spelling.

This is my theory:

It is invulnerable but can be punch-through, but sometimes it is glitched and punch-through won't work.

Shoot at it doesn't even pop any number.

Then I use drakgoon full charge (2m punch-through), all pellets are reflected! Most shocked moment ever (I don't have the screenshot tho...)

Not sure what causes this.

Some others said those backpacks can be damage/punch-through.

As for my experience...

They can not be damaged unless it was mounted.

They can be punch-through, but sometimes it is glitched.

Shoot at it doesn't even pop any damage effect unless punch-through happens.

WE NEED BLUNTS, NOW!

Also, I suggested deployable covers for the Grineer a while ago. Now they are in the game./

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

They can activate it to become a large shield (this is breakable).

But the "passive" function is stronger as a back-guard.

Let's hope steel meridian sell this as a syandana. xD

Yeah I've found this to be incredibly annoying in certain situations (like melee'ing them from behind or spraying with a gun at their general mass). I think it may be a bug that they're indestructible when not even properly used, but I hope DE can remove the back-invulnerability it gives. When they're deployed, it's fine, I can use punch-through or just shoot it down. Or just ignore it and shoot around it.

I guess it just caught me off guard I can't shoot Lancers in the back now.

In high level maps, they seem to equip it more often.

In ceres almost every lancer, trooper or even seeker has one.

But no one mounts it, because passive effect is more op...
