Alternate And New Faction Designs

Hi! I really enjot the artstyle of the game. The factions however need some diversity.

The Grineer have gotten some new units, but still keep pretty much to the same mold.

The Corpus really need some new designs. There is no difference between them other then color.

So, as a first concept I did an overpainting of the Sniper.

Any concepts or ideas you might have on the factions, post away! :)

Sound like Killzone 3 snipers, am I right ?

Yes I like the Helghast snipers, even if they are more of

earth army styled. And the big coats might not work.

But a cloaking device for a unit is a must, the scouts had them installed.

The shotgun soldiers should be armored in my opinion. They have armored legs, so why not upper body as well?

Ok, so I played around with a female model I made and wanted to try out a cloak on the Corpus.

Keep in mind this is all early and I really want feedback at this stage. Does the cloak work, or does it look to weird?

Here is the render.

And the alterate visor.

Another thing I would like ideas for is the high ranking Corpus and Board Members. How do they look and what gadgets and augmentations do they use?

A difference should be clear from the crewmen, a glorified future wall street trader perhaps? Or aristocrats?

Im thinking arrogant, cold and very business-like mixed in with maffia and a hint of religious Zeal.

I don't like the idea of both factions using women as snipers, it's sexist, even if that isn't the intent.

It's important to remember the Corpus have bulky space suits that will easily hide secondary sex characteristics. There isn't any reason to give the women trimmed down and shapely uniforms.

I don't mean to accuse you but that's how it comes across.

I get your point and I thought of it too before I posted. I most defenitely do not want to come across as sexist in any way. I wanted this kind of straight up feedback, or rather DE should get this kind of feedback, on the design of the Factions. Its certainly not improbable that female enemies are coming in the next Corpus Tileset.

I will work on the form of the unit as I dont think it matters what gender it is. And yes, the uniforms are bulky wich is why I wanted a slimmed down version for a sniper for mobiliy and comfort while lying in ambush, it could as easily be a male as a female.

I think maby the situation corrects itself as the uniform builds up and get more bulky, this is just a quick draft built upon the female siluette instead of the male. The more the uniform gets its shape and details, the more the gender is erased.

Hey, maby that is a concious design by the Corpus that every member should look the same in their ranks.

And as a final note, compare the units we currently have in Warframe and it is quite obvious that a difference exist between female and male designs. It is a consequence of the world and the industry that females get snug uniforms while men get bulky armorplating.

I am allready abit dubious to it myself and do not want to add any stereotypes if i can aviod it.

Hey, maby that is a concious design by the Corpus that every member should look the same in their ranks.

This is a great idea. They are a machine cult after all. A big part of cult brainwashing is to strip away individuality and personality. The best way to do that is to make everyone wear the same bulky clothes.

For the sniper I think you should play up the robe part of the outfit, maybe make it look like a cross between a high tech gillie suit and a priests robe?

Good idea on the robe. Probably incorporate some tech and corpus writing along the hem.

It is allso stated that they use cybernetics, so maby something like Deus ex type of implants.

Prod crewmen now have the blade arms of Adam Jensen?

Yes, please.

Hmmm.

Corpus Clergy.

Clergy of the Cleansing Sun (fire), Clergy of the Long Cold Sleep (cryo), Clergy of the Machina Vitea (lightning), Clergy of the Molecular Devourer (toxin)

Corpus heavy unit with a bubble shield (like a mix between snowglobe and regular shields, possibly available as a mod for us)

Instead of guns they have psuedo warframe abilities based on their research into Orokin void technology.

The lesser Corpus would cluster inside the bubbles to act as bodyguards for the Clergy, while they throw deadly balls of plasma, lightning, cryofluid and toxin at us!

EDIT: CONCEPT ART ADDED

htmh.jpg

design elements: I went for a business suit mixed with a priest's frock, along with cybernetic moa legs for a devilish/satyric edge. The shapes are triangular, which lends a predatory edge to the design. I like how the robe kinda looks like a business skirt, giving the Clergy an ambiguous gender.

Their vestment would change colour depending on Element. (Yellow, light blue, purple, green)

EDIT: CLERGY ABILITIES

Lvl 1-20 Desciples: Their abilities take the form of projected energy balls, with variants based on element.

Fire: Homing and explosive

Lightning: The lighning ball shoots lightning at nearby Tenno

Cryo: Slows

Acid: Ignores shields.

Lvl 21-60 Acolyte: In addition to their projectiles, their shields are elemetal, damaging you if you try to pass through it and creating an Elemental Nova when downed. The shields are also highly resistant to attacks of the same type.

Lvl 61+ Master: They can cast a Nova at anytime, not just when their bubble shields are downed.

Deacon: a rare type that appears 10 levels higher than the average Clergy in that area and can cast any Energy ball and Nova, and the shield will adapt. If shot with Acrid it turns to Toxin and so on.

Sounds good to me:) post away!

Soo couldnt keep away from doing some work on Boardmember / Clergy / Administrator type of figure. The Corpus are a mix of corporate trade and industrial research and development.

It is still unclear how the robots fit into all this and where they came from.

Anyway, I tried to make an arrogant face, and without the regular Crew-suit.

Really after mood here. Suggestions and comments are gladly appreciated!

Uhm...the fact that they are robots. Unquestioning servants/shock troops that can be deployed in mass, don't need sustenance other than a charging station. Corpus is a corporation, not a race. If you are the CEO, are you going to just throw away your employees if they get attacked, or are you going to provide them with expendable protection?

Also, not a fan of the flesh tone cloaks...it doesn't suit them.

I must be unclear. I meant, did the Corpus research and build their vast armies, or did they find orikin tech and recreate it?

For a corp about making profit, they sure are busy building for themselves.

Very good design. I aprove of the moa legs, tho i would prefer a mechsuit and the pilot in the center.

they would be larger and more menacing, but not like jackal.

The helmet is a bishop variant?

This reminds me of a inquisitor.

CORPUS

Facts according to Wiki and Forum as Follows.

Structure

Corpus has a corporation structure that resembles a Merchant Guild from past Earth.

They search Orokin ruins and derelicts in the Solarsystem for artifacts and Warframes.

On Venus and Pluto Robotics and Research facilities are located, as well as manufacturing plants. Construction of tech involving Orokin artefacts, are a combination of Design and Ritual, since they do not fully understand it.

On Pluto lies the Indoctrination and education centres, where outsiders are converted to join the Corpus ranks.

Pluto is the Corpus homeworld.

_____________________________________________

Guesswork and Asumptions

Structure:
Board

What: Presumably the top Administrators of all Corpus sections.
Leading would be Ceo.

Departments:

Aquisition
Research & Development
Construction
Trade
Militia
Re-education

________________________

These are my spontanious thoughts. Any help here would be good.

MY guess is Corpus are like a corporation with a Head office, and regional offices.
They have one common goal: wealth and control trade.

It seems they have no rivals, so fight internally for power.

It allso seem they have turned trade and profit into a religion.
The word Flocks, Dogs and Betrayers are all religious.
And profit numbs the feeling.

So to what extent does it go? Are the Ceo like the Pope?
Are there trader Cardinals, Prophets and Inquisitors?

Do they pray, and if so to a Void Deity?

Are they connected or controlled by computers somehow,
given their use of robots, codes and cybernetics, mainly the suits they all wear.

I would like some thoughts on this, since the Lore and wiki is rather empty.

I will update this post as time goes on.

Faction

Infestation cultists

Religious fanatics who believe the infection is Holy and its spread a quest for Enlightenment.

The victims are not pitied, rather revered.

To ensure they can continue their Mission to let the plague consume all life,

the Cultists have researched tech to resist the plague and to make the infected ignore them.

This is most likely Orikin ancient technology obtained in a forgotten research facility.

This is their base of operations.

What do you all think of this idea?
