  1. Honored Tenno,

Well, we screwed that one up, didn’t we? In our panic to address exploits we’ve rolled out some half-baked changes, and didn’t test them nearly enough. Worse - we didn’t communicate the changes and explain the rationale.

We’ve plugged some holes and we’re running out of fingers. I’m sorry you had to see all of this, its quite embarrassing. I’m sure you’re frustrated. I am deeply sorry for messing up your game.

    Here’s where we’re at:

We’re going to do some map fixes AND we’re going to fix a few bugs with line of sight changes and let it ride until we have a cohesive and well communicated set of changes to roll out.

Our ‘press 4 to win’ ultimates are metered primarily by the supply of energy. Finding an energy loophole means that Homer’s drinking bird can play the game for you. That is not team synergy. That is just broken.

This fall, starting with Excalibur, we’ve begun to take a hard look at these ‘X-Ray AOE’ abilities and wonder if we can bring more elements of skill back in. That’s the short answer to ‘why the hell is DE messing with us’. Homer’s drinking bird should not play the game for you.

We will be changing the dreaded map somewhat today… the level team has refused to grant my request of making Viver an insta-kill-lava-death-pit. Instead, spawning will be staggered to help address enemy clumps, but again - ‘everyone within 80 meters dies with keyboard macro’ is a larger issue than any one particular map. I’d be curious what your thoughts are.

I know yesterday’s changes have exposed deep frustrations from our Tenno - from Syndicates to mission types, and poetically it all began with our first Warframe: Excalibur. With your voices ringing in our ears we intend to remedy as soon as possible. I look forward to reading your reactions to the next series of hotfixes (I have my asbestos underpants on now).

    (Ninja edit after reading thread)

Syndicate Standing is absolutely under the surgical laser. It's screaming.

With abilities, again, things are not staying as they are currently - as I said above *until we have a cohesive set of changes* We're going to try to entangle this and do it once without driving like my grandma on an icy road.

Syndicates will get cooler over time. It was some character and opposition. It is not a 'whole new way to play' and never was pitched as such. It's a layer, a purpose, to the existing and future game-modes we are adding.

  2. On behalf of the team and myself I also want to apologize for this mess. How ridiculous. I know the server team has finally made a breakthrough on these issues and all past and future ones should be working seamlessly for you.

To see you supporting us and be met with this is just shameful on our part. We are arranging a small token of apology to show up in your inbox in the next few days.

I'm sorry, and thanks for sticking with us, despite this mess.

  3. I don't mean to bash your narrative, but isn't that an odd thing to polarize their relation around? I mean, New Loka's goal is repopulating Earth and purifying humanity, while Suda is sitting in a corner reading books. The conflict around "definition of  being alive" doesn't exactly jump to me, personally, especially with Suda being stated as mostly emotionless (although her reaction to me was more passive aggressive). There's some inconsistency to iron out here, I find.

Also, tangentially related, but how does Loka rationalize using Ancients as specters? Is that a story/gameplay segregation moment or they really are pretty cool with the Infested faction despite their hard on for purity?

    Thanks for answering BTW!

At the risk of repeating myself - New Loka are freaks about humanity, the original. They see a machine as the opposite? A machine in their mind. What destroyed humanity in the 'Good ole days'? So I think its fair for them to hate and fear that most.

Suda is tougher I agree with you, but I am drawn to the idea (like Ordis) that the most successful designs would prioritize self-preservation and identifying threats. For Suda to not care that masses of Tenno rally around New Loka wouldn't be smart. But you're right, that means Suda is more than a librarian. Maybe its silly but perhaps Suda thinks New Loka is the most boring of the Syndicates, because Suda really values intricacy, nuance and information more than anything else.

    (Yeeppppp I'm stretching)

Why did New Loka use Infested as weapons? Ya, you got me. :( The truth is we didn't have a great set they could use and I rationalized this as 'they wouldn't risk humans in combat and so they use the Infested despite the hypocrisy.' I will tell you, New Loka feels pretty conflicted about it, though! ;)

    Thanks for caring!

  4. Hey Steve, while you're on a roll, care to explain the logic for Suda VS New Loka?

I hazarded the guess that Cephalon Suda is a survivor of the Orokin Era, and might partially be to blame for the current state of Earth, and for that reason New Loka resent them. Am I close?

Can't wait to hear more about the Syndicates! ... Like for instance, the names of the leaders, that'd be a nice start since they have no character whatsoever beyond "Choose us!"

Yep! Cephalon Suda is the farthest you get from "life"... well, 'natural/biological', as New Loka defines life... this is the ultimate perversion of their ideals, a return to an original state of grace. These two syndicates are polarized around this definition of 'being alive'. The suggestion of history between them is also intriguing!

  5. Establishment? System? Are you refering to the two major and multiple minor factions? Because that doesn't sound so much like a system or establishment, which would be a singular government/social body, but more like a origin system wide status quo.

They remind me more to Bane's ideology from Dark Knight Rises. Let everything burn down and rebuild from scratch.

However causing chaos and revolution would pretty much increase the body count even further than what Grineer and Corpus allready do. So basicly another reason why the Steel Meridians should dislike the Veil.

It would make more sense for the SteelMer to be allied with the more neutral factions which could provide them with tools and informations to help their goal. Like Cephalon Suda, who seems to have no hand in the suffering of people.

Also the Red Veil seem to have a thing for using freaking Infested, together with radiations and toxins. That sounds very colleteral damage iduncing to me.

Veil would fit into being allied with the Arbiters of Hexes or even the New Loka. The former are going for a more ruthless approach to fighting and the later want to cleanse the solar system just as much as the Veil does.

    :) Great discussion-

Veil do use those things because to them 'the ends justify the means'. The System to them is the Grineer and Corpus. Meridian are splintered from the Grineer itself and are rebelling against that so they see the Veil as the 'darker side' of accomplishing the same thing.

The Arbiters want to create a new system, ruled by Tenno and value discipline and restraint. These are very much opposed to the Veil values. I think of Arbiters as cool and calm and Veil as vivid fire. I think Bane is a good comparison.

New Loka could never see eye to eye with Veil in my opinion because they seek the restoration of the lost 'order' which the Veil is suspicious of.

Cephalon Suda would be a curious ally of Meridian I think because, at the end of it, Suda thinks at a higher level than Meridian and that would frustrate Meridian. Suda doesn't like destruction though because it values existence and the variety of existence. If was sort of thinking of Wan Shi Tong in Airbender.

You guys rock and I think interpretation and some amount of contradiction makes this more interesting.

  6. My concern is more Steel Meridian being allied with Red Veil, given Red Veil are willing to slaughter those innocents (any means to further the cause) the Steel meridian are trying to protect.  Though that said it doesnt make the Red Veil good prospects for anyone to ally with for that matter.

In my mind, The Veil do not slaughter innocents at all - the Veil are anti-establishment pure and simple and Meridian are against the establishment at all. Veil are just more chaotic - they want revenge and retribution and hate the 'system' itself. Meridian is about justice and protection, they hate what the system does.

  7. Events and other cosmetics are definitely a big thing.  A friend of mine who's a major lore junkie loves the idea of the Syndicates and what they represent.  One thing though.  How exactly do the Death Squads the negative Syndicates send after you work?  I've been told they're just additional Excimus enemies but I've not noticed any additional units in missions.  Perhaps they can be marked?  Or maybe a notification in-mission when an enemy Syndicate sends a group after you?

    You will know :)

  8.

Steve could you please tell me something about this:

And what if I haven't initiate in a Syndicate and I have negative points in both that Syndicate and its ally? I'm stuck in that position and seems like there's no way around to change Syndicate now.

Apparently there's no why to join a Syndicate that has a negative reputation, or to change faction; is it intended? Does it mean I'll never be able to join the opposite faction if I change my mind if I haven't initiate to them before gaining any points at all?

[edit] You should be able to get the initiation sigil regardless of negative standing.

[edit2] And... its not working :( (will add this for next hotfix!)

  9. BTW "Major Game Breaking" is an extreme way of saying this! - I sense some Red Veil leanings in that phrasing :) Although Suda would praise your command of graph theory...

As for the extra cosmetics and events around this - hell yes - if you guys are digging where this is going we'll continue to flesh it out and make it deeper and more interesting! Thanks for the patience and enthusiasm!

  10. Dearest Tenno-

Three months ago many of you were surprised to learn of a proposed investment in Digital Extremes. Today I am confirming that, after a long phase of changes and negotiation, this investment has become a reality.

    Here's the official announcement: https://warframe.com/news/partnership-announced

I’m more comfortable in pink shorts than a suit, so lucky for you I don’t have to attempt an explanation of the deal. You can actually read it for yourself here: http://www.hkexnews.hk/listedco/listconews/SEHK/2014/1014/LTN20141014641.pdf

What does it mean for Warframe, for you, and for me?

For me, it’s business as usual, with zero changes in DE management and no outside interference whatsoever. After the shock wears off I simply go back to drowning in coffee, crunching on the Archwing update and building end-game content we desperately need (I might be sneaking some into Archwing at the last minute actually).

For you, I hope you read the deal and realize it’s not the doomsday scenario you may fear. I hope you agree to at least wait and see what it means and I hope you engage with us and our community on what is important to you as a player as Warframe and Digital Extremes grows from this partnership.

As for Warframe... well it’s getting an Orokin Reactor installed. It will have more resources to increase quality and scope. It will continue just as it began, as a labor of love. It will continue to be built by the same passionate developers you know while being guided and challenged by the most passionate and positive gaming community we’ve ever experienced.

On behalf of the team we can’t thank you enough for the tremendous support and faith you’ve had in us and in building this game alongside us over the past two years.  I hope you stick with us as Warframe continues to grow under our control.  Stand with honor, Tenno.

  11. Are you sure that SMAA is actually working? It doesn't seem to look better than FXAA at all even though it should. In any case...please just give us freedom of choice.

FXAA (high and low), TXAA and (real) supersampling.

It can't be so hard to implement all of that... but the only way to force it myself is to use DX9 with an injector..and I'm not going to do that because that would mean to lose out on tesselation.

Quite frankly the AA you provide is piss poor. And I don't mean that as an insult...it's just how it is. jagged edges absolutely everywhere. This game would look so much better if proper AA choice support was given for people that don't play on potatoes.

What injector are you using (do you have comparisons :))? I'm hoping to get SMAA with temporal feature but was testing waters with this. Implementing all of them isn't really easy or fun across all the APIs we support so I'd prefer to support something that's good across as many platforms as possible.

  12. Thank you so much for this Steve. But why not let us revert our Kubrows? I mean I don't want to sound ungrateful but my Girlfriend and I had awesome white Kubrows and now mine is so grey you cant see he tiger stripes and my girlfriend's is some sort of nasty green that comes along as the same hue as tarnished copper. Even putting the scrambler back in would be a start, but I think we all would like to color our Kubrows, even though it doesn't make sense genetically. There are plenty of us here who can help you all out with ideas on this topic, so please let us know what can be done on this front.

Edit: I cut out the images so we all don't have to scroll as much.

Additional Kubrow coloring options are definitely in the works. Resetting Kubrows was not in the cards (burned into their traits, not color palette) but I will see if we can't do some gifting to get you in a better spot when the new Kubrow system is finished... fair?

  13. I've added a config option that performs the gamma-incorrect distortion on any legacy palette. It's queued for the next hotfix and will be included on PS4. This option checks if the palette is a legacy palette (ironically all of them except for the Gamma pack which was made with the new code).

It will not change anyone's set up colors, Kubrow color are unaffected. This simply mangles the color picker interface for the palettes in question. You will notice that the new UI is now properly displaying the gamma-mangled colors instead of having the swatch out of sync with the result on your item.

I apologize to those that have been with us for so long and were fond of the old scheme - this hacky option lets you get back there. Future palettes will not be affected by this option.
