Looking into this myself as well I saw a suggestion being offered a few years ago to allow us to enable or disable different categories of the list ourselves which I think would be a good solution to the issue. At least let us disable or collapse notifications about events we've completed like currently dog days or the thermia fractures since those take up the most space.
