  1. At 1800 hours, Yes.

I'm actually sick of End Game content.  I don't actually enjoy watching my meager health get slaughtered by level 80+ Heavy gunners, while an Ancient Healer prevents me from damaging them.

Nightmare Mission on Pluto?  Ugh, no thanks.

At this point, I'm looking for Triple Primed Serration, Triple Primed Vitality, Triple Primed Redirection...  and "Parasitic Immunity" as mods for all my loadouts.

I can't stand using Sancti Tigris because I spend 80% of my time reloading, and at least half the time I miss with my Tonkor.  I need a rifle I can aim, hit, and do great damage.  That weapon no longer exists in Warframe.  I could go back to using Boltor Prime instead of Soma P, but that's really only going to get me 300 or so more damage.

Ran a Nightmare mission on Pluto with my Nova.  Was stomped hard.  I want to become powerful enough that I can use ANY FRAME for ANY MISSION, and be successful.

  2. I love how the reddit post lists the source of that information as... wait, there is no source of information.

Just another idiot posting pictures expecting us to believe him at face value.  I have to scroll painfully through the comments, but I can't find where he posts the source data, and the other posters have asked a few questions about where it comes from.

General consensus seems to be that it tracks Steam players only, but jko831 neither confirms nor denies.  Does this track active player base, or total accounts created?  I have so many questions about this.

  3. Since Frost prime has already made one comeback, it's logical he'd return again.

Fear not, the game is fueled by the quest for shiny things.  Frost Prime is indeed shiny.

  4. Added Chronicler as an archetype, as I can't think of any other term relating to "someone who likes stories" without referring to them as overly passive... but then, this aspect of enjoyment is completely passive.  Does calling them "passives" or "Readers" sound too "weak"?

Agnosticts is too vague, and defeats the purpose of making such a list in the first place.

Lastly, you need a title for people who explicitly play for the purpose of experiencing a good story. I'd go with, I dunno, Watchers? Storiers? Readers? Something or other.

With Athletes and Conquerors being diametrically opposed, I need some way of saying "or neither of these extremes, but rather off to the side".  Agnostic simply refers to the third option of "not consumed with either A or C".  Since an "agnostic" is someone who claims to "neither follow, nor avoid" a belief system, it fits the necessary trichotomy.

  6. A while back I posted a thread titled What kind of Gamer are you?  The results were that I ended up with a theory on game design based off of the answer to one question:

"What do gamers want from a video game"

If you want to read the document, I have it open for viewing here.  It results in 2 Triads, and then many other pieces.

My question is this:  What other types and motivations can we think of?

    I have the following summarized:

    1. Athletes seek out challenging activities.  They are the diametric opposite of Conquerors.

    2. Conquerors seek overwhelming power to make challenges obsolete.  They are the diametric opposite of Athletes.

    3. Agnostics are much less concerned with challenges, and follow other goals.

    4. Completionists want to get all the things.

    5. Builders want to create worlds, cities, villages, armies, and shape their game.

    6. Casuals are not invested enough to worry about end-game playability.

    7. Explorers want to find each little corner of the game.

    8. Exterminator seeks to kill as many enemies as possible, and thus diametrically oppose Rushers.

    9. Fashionistocrats is a horrible new word that I made up, describing people who focus upon super nifty outfits,

    10. Mad Bombers seeks entertainment.  Victory or loss are somewhat important, but chaos, explosions, and lots of fun are the key things.

    11. Matchmakers seek to harmonize.  Whether finding a perfect group of people or equipment.

    12. Pragmatics evaluate enemies and prioritize them as worth killing/not worth killing.

    13. Rushers see mission completion as the critical goal, so oppose Exterminators.

    14. Socialites enjoy the camaraderie and friendship resultant from meeting people and interacting with them, or the amusement of trolling them.

    15. Chroniclers want a story to be told with epic sweep. Whether in the form of background lore, or an inspiring campaign, a good tale is what provides inspiration.

So, what other motivations might apply to a gamer?

Get the gold.  Killing the Mammoth is irrelevant.  As the last one on earth, the species will go extinct in a few years, and even then, only if the mammoth can stay on the plate.

PS  The mammoth will get bored sooner or later and wander off.  This action will kill it without my intervention, so the mammoth individual was already doomed.

So essentially we face the following key points:

    1. Saving the mammoth species is impossible with only one survivor.  We can delay its death slightly, but can not save it's race.
    2. The mammoth will kill itself very soon as it gets bored with standing there.  I assume some sort of feed system provides it food in place to complete this elaborate scenario.
    3. Thieves will tunnel in to steal the gold later, and become rich themselves, and probably ALSO sell the skeleton for Ivory.

I will then buy Defiance from Trion, and try to negotiate purchasing DE from Suunpo Holding.  If I get to own DE, I will mandate that all prime weapons be revisited in terms of stats to ensure that they are balanced appropriately to be the weapons of phenomenal lore that we would expect from the great works of the Orokin, and no prime weapon will be considered "mastery fuel, nothing more".

I will also throw a lot of work into Archwing to make it more fun, or at LEAST, less grindy.

:snip:  bunches of well written and actually relevant text went here.  :snip:

To recap, the only reason to purchase ember prime is the actual skin or if you are a completionist.  If you just want to play the game, then regular ember is just as powerful as ember prime.  Save your plat.

Okay, I suppose it could be good advice, but from another perspective, were new players about to actually drop 1k plat on Ember Prime?  I think that if they dropped money for that much, they won't be entering trade chat blindly.  Then again, I hang out in Region chat, so I guess it's completely possible.  And in that case, I'm convinced.  If you are joining Warframe with a Prime Access Purchase, and have full plans to buy the next 3 prime access packs, and will make it to MR 15 unaware that you can build 95% of the things in the game in the foundry because wallet power gives you all the weapons you need... I quote the immortal words of P.T.Barnum.  "There's a sucker born every minute".

So, we're embracing diametrically opposed viewpoints.  :D  I say that no new players will buy Ember Prime.  If a new player does decide to do so, then buying platinum was already irrelevant to them.  If those players ALSO fail to use Google to look up WHY Ember Prime costs 1k plat, and just blindly assume she must be that powerful, then this will be a wonderful lesson in human nature and fiscal caution, and the importance of market research.

Finally, is it just me, or are we posting WAY out of order on this thread?  Whenever I load it, the messages... are not in order.  Like, one person types 14 hours ago, I typed 6 hours ago, then TL posts 4 hours ago, then the next guy is 11 hours ago... it's almost like "top posting" where it's in reverse order.. but... it's not in reverse order.  Both chrome and firefox are displaying it... wrong... for me.

This thread is about Ember Prime.  It's not an in-depth discuss about supply and demand.

Wow, it's like i'm watching this video happen in front of me lol.  The fact is, Ember Prime is worth around 1k plat.  Yes, I'm salty that I only sold my 2 sets for 400 and 600 plat.  Yes, I'm bummed that I lost out on an additional 1k platinum, but that's irrelevant.

Ember Prime's value has nothing to do with your opinion.  Ember Prime's value has nothing to do with how we analyze her usability in game.  Ember Prime's value is determined by how badly people want to acquire her, and how much people are willing to pay for her.

Would I pay 1000 plat for Ember?  Of course not.  I think it would be a waste of my money.  My opinion however, doesn't matter.  You and I both think 1,000 platinum is way too much money to pay for her.  And for US, it is too much.

Other people disagree completely.  Other people will pay a video-game-fortune for Ember Prime.  For them, the market price isn't about "achieving the right amount of power".  For them, the market price is based off of "I want this rare thing so badly I'm willing to pay $50 real money for it", except they got theirs on a discount so, $12 or so.

This thread is about Ember Prime's current trading price.  As such, it's a discussion about economics, and thus, of supply and demand.
If this thread was about Ember Prime's next rework, it would be a discussion about game mechanics, and thus of power efficacy and usefulness.
If this thread was about Ember Prime's artwork style, it would be a discussion about Sculptris, whatever else DE uses, and thus the application of artistic theme to game design  choices.

There's nothing tradeable that is worth that amount of plat.   No prime set, no rare mods, no arcanes, nothing. Anyone asking for more than 300 on an vaulted prime set is just attempting to milk desperate or gullible fools.

That's not how "economy" works.  The value of a thing is determined by buyer demand, influenced by pedigree, and has nothing to do with "usefulness".

The Baretta Imperiale Montecarlo shotgun sells for $106,000.  Considering you can get a fantastic Mossberg or Benelli for $1,000, we have to admit that there must be something special about a gun that costs 106 times the price.  It must be 106 times better than a Mossberg, right?  Like, it shoots some sort of laser plasma shotgun blast or something...  Maybe it's made of steel that is 106 times stronger than normal steel.  Perhaps it has some sort of patented recoil compensation system that lets you shoot with no more kick than a BB Pistol.

Nope, none of those.  It is simply lovingly hand carved and embellished, and can be had in 12 gauge or 20 gauge.  It offers no better accuracy than any other shotgun, in fact, with match grade slugs, will lag behind many of today's rifled shotguns selling for $800 or less.  It is precision matched to your own body measurements, but a competent gunsmith can do that to an aforementioned $800 Mossberg for VASTLY less than 100 grand.  With a fraction of the cost, you could buy an off the shelf shotgun, select a full complement of extremely high quality attachments, have a gunsmith precision fit it to your exact body measurements, get stock molded from carbon fiber with precision weight inserts, and have a weapon with greater payload, better accuracy, higher durability, and lower recoil than this breech-loader double-barrel.

You argue that this shotgun isn't worth the price because you can DEFINITELY get better performance for 1/50th the cost.  Therefore, this shotgun can not be sold.

Except... No totally, it is being sold.  Baretta simply decided to make the gun, and they named the price.  It is worth every penny of that money because you don't have any other method of getting it.  Proud owners of that weapon will be out-shot on a range by thousands of of other people who have weapons with superior performance, but that doesn't matter.  The Imperiale is hand built and artistically crafted.  It is, almost literally, "Shotgun Prime".

Besides, it's not like it's a Holland and Holland Royale.  That shotgun, based off of price, can hit the Lunar Lander.

Play the game more. Get prime stuff. Sell prime stuff to other players in trade chat for platinum. Buy more slots. Problem solved.

(if you're going to sell something sell excalibur, he does nothing at this point in time but promote bad habits in the people who play him)

Excalibur is ALWAYS welcome in my squad.  ALWAYS.

Also, keep your eye out for a discount, at 50% or 75%, even a small $5 purchase in plat will score you a nice pile of slots.

  12. The value of a commodity is based off of supply and demand.  Comparisons of how much a similar thing is useful are irrelevant.

The Lamborghini Reventon debuted at right around the 1,600,000 mark, and offered a 650hp engine pushing a vehicle weighing or 3671 lbs.
Power to Weight ratio: 0.177 hp/lb

The Challenger Hellcat debuted at an MSRP of $70,000, and offered 707 hp pushing a curb weight of 4,449 lbs.
Power to Weight ratio: 0.158 hp/lb

    Long winded diatribe:

    Spoiler

The Lamborghini should lead ahead of the Hellcat slightly, as the superior power to weight ration indicates better acceleration, and cornering would suffer on the dodge as a consequence of that 800ish lb difference. (Ignoring tires and transmissions, which admittedly makes this comparison useless for practical applications)

Regardless, both vehicles are insanely high performance machines offering fantastic thrills for driving, and each would be extremely capable on a racetrack.  The challenger, being 21% heavier than the Lamborghini, would take more care to maneuver on a track, but doesn't lag very far behind the Italian supercar, and is certainly capable of posing a threat in any race.

Ultimately, both machines handle highway driving without using even a minuscule portion of their performance envelope, and those differences will never be readily apparent during any street-driving or daily commutes.  Both will move from a standstill to 60 faster than you will ever need them to.

Therefore, since you'll never need the performance difference between them, Lamborghinis should be priced comparably to the Dodge.  Lamborghinis do have a distinct performance benefit on the theoretical end, so maybe they should receive a generous 2x multiplier.  However, the Hellcat can carry more luggage and groceries, so it is much more useful.  This takes the Lambo down to only 1.5x cost, for those who love the cosmetics.

I guess we should tell Automobili Lamborghini that they need to drop their prices down to the $150k price range, because we have proven (with Ember Prime) that value is based off of usefullness.  Therefore, Lamborghinis are only worth around $100,000 to $150,000 at best.

Man, all those idiots who payed millions of dollars should sue Lamborghini for being ripped off.  Since they paid 10 times the cost of a muscle car, they should get at LEAST 5 times the performance.  Porche, Lamborghini, Bugatti BMW, and McLaren should be legally required to pull the 500-1000 hp engines from their cars, and replace them with 2500-5000 hp engines.

Oh wait, no, the usefullness of a thing has nothing to do with the price.  It is all based off of the desirability of a thing.  Ember Prime's value is based off of who wants her, and how badly they want her.  The sellers have the freedom to demand whatever price they wish, the buyers have the freedom to try negotiating, or walking away.  Thus, despite your disagreement, Ember Prime really is worth 700-1300 platinum this week.

  13. Just to clarify, if you're talking about anything like SweetFX or ENBseries, those are allowed, as they are just graphical display changers, and do not interfere with game files.

[DE]Steve confirmed that they are okay to use in a Devstream... a LONG LONG time ago.

On a twitch channel, far away.

  14. I first noticed this behavior in December of 2013.

Draco has nothing to do with it.  LOTS of people get a kick out of inflicting a bad day on some unknown, and ultimately they know that they can

    1:  Take rewards.
    2:  Ruin your Day
3:  Expect no retribution because it's so hard to catch them, and verify that they are indeed doing it to irritate people.

This is why Warframe TOS states that DE can cancel your account at any time for any reason, nullify your platinum, and do not need to notify you of their decision.

  15. Way back in November 2013, I started with Warframe's original n00b frame, Excalibur.  Struggling against worthless internet with no good mods, I clawed my way through missions.  When I finally got Streamline and Fleeting, I used what I had.  Despite an overwhelming player opinion that Excal was nothing more than a starter frame, and the belief that Rhino was the first "good" frame you'd find, I stayed invested.  I discovered that Radial Blind worked great against level 1 enemies, level 20 enemies, and level 100 enemies.

Slash dash had let me down too many times on Mercury.  Super jump was useless.  Radial Javelin was great at low levels, but nothing else.  Blind however, was cheap, effective, and with a max Overextended, would lock a map down completely.

He is my most used frame.  Most missions are either going to be Nova, Vauban, Excal, Mag, or Valkyr, but Excal is NEVER a bad choice, and NEVER lets the team down.

    Excalibur for life.
