  1. It's been a long road since we first launched Warframe's official forums back in late 2012, and we're excited and proud to announce our official forums have reached 2 million members.  Our incredible community of Tenno has grown into one the most welcoming communities in gaming, and we're excited to see that number continue to grow.

Through your support and constant feedback our Forums have become more than just a place where everyone can share their stories and experiences.  It's also a resource where our developers can directly interact with players who strive to see Warframe continue to improve.  With your help we've made the Warframe Forums more than just a discussion on game updates.

Together we've designed new Warframes and Mods, explored incredible community artists, discovered talented Youtube and Twitch entertainers, and have taken a dive into Warframe's hidden lore secrets.

From all of us at Digital Extremes, thank you for being here with us, Tenno.  We can't wait to share more!

  8. Tenno,

There’s been a lot of discussion and questions surrounding our AutoBan system, and we wanted to go over a couple of frequently asked questions/concerns for peace of mind. Ultimately, this system exists to prevent toxic/malicious players from affecting everyone else’s gameplay experience, and systems like this work best when the way they work is protected.

However, we know that many players will be concerned that this system could affect them in some way.  To help clear up some confusion behind AutoBan we will address some frequently asked questions for those who are worried about, or simply interested in, how it generally works.

To start, one thing should be clear: every valid permanent ban has evidence to back it up and is reviewed by more than one person. We certainly can't share the information behind a decision publicly as it often involves more than one person, nor would we want to give away security details for any player’s account. That sounds like a cop out, but it’s true.

If you’re worried about becoming needlessly AutoBanned forever from a false positive (false positives are restored if they occur), we’ve outlined below the type of actions that trigger this system:

Manipulating the memory spaced ‘owned’ by Warframe in any way

We do not allow the use of programs whose primary function is to fiddle with memory, such as Cheatengine. Continued use of these programs with the Warframe client could result in a ban as you have been explicitly informed of this EULA violation.

That being said, very very rarely do false positives happen, usually as the result of another software program encroaching on our memory space (overly nosy "security" programs for example) or faulty RAM (not so perfect overclocking).

    Having negative Platinum

We understand that having a negative Platinum balance isn’t always the player’s fault, but we have no way of immediately knowing if your situation is the result of a mistake, overly cautious banks/payment providers, or fraud. There are extremely rare cases where a recent purchase bounces back because it wasn’t authenticated properly by the merchant, but that is quickly remedied by checking your Steam Wallet or account balance. If the funds didn’t go through simply repurchase the package to get you out of the negatives. If you used a coupon that was consumed in the process, be sure to contact Support for further assistance.

Players have never had Platinum removed or been banned for trading fairly with a regular player that had a chargeback. Yet, if you buy from a goldfarmer, you can get banned or have those trades reversed as your Platinum was not purchased legitimately. The only safe way to acquire in-game items is through authorized sellers like warframe.com/buyplatinum or Steam, to mitigate risk of triggering the AutoBan system but also for your own safety as a consumer.

Again, every ban is reviewed by more than one person with evidence to back it up. Each one is now accompanied by a message outlining the reasons why you were banned. If you feel they are unjust, please make an appeal. This system is not set up to punish unlucky users, but to weed out the toxic players who make Warframe unfair for everyone.

    Don't forget: 2 Factor Authentication!

That being said, players are ultimately responsible for their own account -- including who accesses it and its contents. There are a variety of security measures in place to help you safeguard your account:

    • Email notifications when your password has been changed
    • 2 Factor Authentication (similar to Steam’s 2-stage-login) where compromised accounts are unusable without your email credentials. You can set up 2 FA today by visiting www.warframe.com/user while logged in to the site.

AutoBan is in place to help protect you from unsavory players, but we cannot do that unless you all work to protect yourselves.

Awesome, the devs verbatim used my suggestion for the Infested bow.

Too bad in-game it looks more like a toxic cloud than an insect swarm. Was it supposed to be that way?

Our artists had their eyes on creating more Infested weaponry for some time now, and it was clear to our team that an Infested bow would be a perfect complement to some of the more unusual weapons we've created so far.  We also know that you guys love Infestation (gross!) and our Mutalist line of weaponry leads to a lot of exciting prospective weapons.

  11. Infestation should always be handled with care, whether you're properly disposing of infected tissue or liberally applying it to your enemies.  When Tenno do decide to handle Infestation in combat it's often to bypass conventional defenses, but weapons corrupted by Infestation are more than just swords that look gross or rifles with a few dangly tentacles.  They look and feel alive -- like an organism evolved for that specific purpose.

Lore more about the design concepts that inspired the latest round of infested weaponry in our latest edition of Building Warframe.

    New Warframe: Inaros

Inaros -  Risen from the sands, Inaros commands the desert's fearsome power.
DESICCATION: blasts enemies with a wave of cursed sand, blinding and damaging them while also stealing their health.

DEVOUR  marks your target, trapping it in quicksand. Charging the ability will draw them towards Inaros for devouring.  Alternatively, Inaros or his allies can activate the target, transferring a percentage of its health and shields. If the target dies by the hands of Inaros, a sand shadow will spawn to assist him.

SANDSTORM transforms Inaros into a whirling spiral of sand, gathering nearby pickups and throwing enemies away. Enemies previously marked for devour within its radius will drained of shields and health.

SCARAB SWARM is a charged ability, converting your health into hardened scarab armor. Discharge it to inflict a swarm of insects toward your enemies. Any survivors will have their health drained and bestowed upon your allies within radius.

Baro Ki’Teer is searching for riches under the sands of Phobos, but he needs Tenno help in order to find his fortune.

HYEKKA MASTER -  Summons a Hyekka to fight for it.  Hyekka Masters will replace Drahk Masters on Phobos (Grineer Settlement tileset).  They will also appear in any Grineer Mission that features Infested, and may also appear in other Missions that spawn Grineer enemies.

    New Weapons

LESION -  Pierce enemy defenses at a comfortable melee distance

MUTALIST CERNOS - Overcome with Infestation, this bow’s arrows now spread poisonous contagion to any surface they hit.

    Lighting Improvements

Firstly, this is a sweeping change across the entire game! Please be conscious that some areas may appear overly or underlit. We will work to fix up any rough looking spots - feel free to send screenshots are way in bug threads throughout the appropriate subforums.

With Inaros, the sands of old have been swept away from U18 Warframe leaving behind a newer, more vibrant U18.5 Warframe. In many respects, 18.5 is a remastered, more HD version of Warframe with months of technical graphical improvements and artistic relighting of many parts of the game (and more to come in subsequent updates). On top of these changes are across the board rendering performance improvements we hope you'll enjoy, keep in mind that your particular hardware may benefit more and benefit less depending on your GPU, resolution and preferred graphics settings.

    • Lighting textures have been reengineered to reduce square compression artifacts and ugly color banding. You may have seen me point this out on past Devstreams.
    • All PBR materials have been recompressed with a more accurate format, new and subtle details are visible on your PBR'd Warframes, gear and in the environment.
    • Reflection Probes have been built through many areas of the game, grounding PBR materials with more accurate lighting.
    • Character and weapon lighting includes more accurate 'dual specular' lighting which means metallic surfaces are more realistic and fancy looking.
    • HDR rendering has been switched to a compact 32bit format which has improved HDR rendering performance for a wide range of GPUs.
    • Tonemapping has been adjusted to use more of the range of lighting content in the game, images have more detail, particularly richer in the darks.
    • Motion Blur and Depth of Field have been re-engineered to run faster and look better, fast moving and defocused objects no longer appear 'cut out' on their silhouettes.
    • Draw order optimizations have been applied to every object in the game, which improves overall performance, particularly in worst-case scenarios.
    • Atmospheric fog effects are now rendering in a separate lighting pass, allowing richer particle effects at distance without being 'erased' by atmosphere.
    • Particle lighting has been improved to more accurately represent the local lighting environment.
    • Wind force modelling on many particle systems increase realism as various environmental particles now respond to explosive forces and Warframe powers – you've also probably seen us showcase this in our most recent Devstream.
    • Bloom system has been softened and made more seated in the scene. The burnt-out look is replaced with a more subtle and gentle sci-fi glow.
    • Physics collision, performance and stability have all been improved, as a long-awaited upgrade of Warframe PhysX libraries has been completed.

  19. PC Update 18.5 is getting closer, which means Devstream 69 is the perfect time for the team to give a peek behind the development veil!  Don't worry, everyone's decent.

This week we took a look into some of the new enemies and mechanics that will be featured in Update 18.5, including some incredible Kavat animations and a serious upgrade to lighting and smoke FX.

  20. There are a lot of changes are coming for Chat, and we wanted to give everyone a preview on what to expect on 18.5 and beyond.  Visually it’s been totally redesigned to align better with the rest of the UI, as well as added new functionality that will make chatting with players more intuitive.

Major changes include a collapsible user list, with channel tabs are now appearing as icons.  Private messages will still show full names, and will appear next to the channel icons.

We've added emoji support to the chat, the generic ones you’d expect, plus a few Warframe-themed emojis including everyone's favorite Grineer:

You can also change the theme for emojis to your liking:

Emojis can be selected from a side menu or you can use the new auto complete feature of the chat.

The new auto-complete can be also used to type the names of players who have recently spoken using the prefix @, and doing this will cause the player to see a special notification in chat.   The auto-complete function will have full support on PC and PS4, but the Xbox One keyboard unfortunately does not have the ability to support this feature.

We also added chat history for PC, so by pressing up while focused on the chat textfield you will see previous messages you sent.

    POST U18.5 Changes:

Unfortunately, some features we're most excited about are not ready for release with 18.5, but are very close to completion.  The following features are scheduled for release after 18.5, as soon as they are up to our standard of quality:

    • Mission linking in chat: This will allow players to select a Derelict Survival Key (for example) and beside the invite button there will be recruit button which will let you send a message to either Clan, Alliance or Recruitment chat channels. The message will have a clickable link, which will allow players to join your mission.
    • Item linking in chat: This will allow player to show Mods, weapons, and other items in chat via a link.  The link will show details of the items sent, like when you preview an item in the store.
    • Clickable player names:  Currently you can click on the names of players who sent messages, but we want to have the same functionality for when you see a player name sent through the auto-complete feature.

  22. Every Warframe has a powerfully iconic design, but it's undeniable that Saryn carries with her a special aura presence on the battlefield.  Her image exudes both a powerful self-confidence and a deadly toxic nature, both of which add several challenges when designing her Prime counterpart.

Find out more about Saryn Prime's development in our latest edition of Building Warframe, and let us know what you think!
