I mean, they count down while you are in Warframe, even outside of missions. Be spending 10 minutes trading and completely forget about the booster while it counts down. Take prime access boosters for instance, they last for 90 days, if that was in mission time, you would have 2,160 in game hours of boosters, which is more then I have in mission playing for 4 years now I believe.
