Once I have dual weapons can I sell the singles?

Hi, I'm new to the game and this is my first post. I've read lots and searched and I can't find the answer to my question. 

I have dual heat swords. I want to free up slots and it would seem obvious that I can't sell my single heat swords, as I would no longer have two swords to dual wield but.. 

My weapon slots show 2 heat swords as well as dual heat swords. 

So.. Can I sell the single heat sword(s}? 

I don't want to risk having to level them up again if it makes my dual swords disappear.

Sure, they are completely different weapons,
you never needed to have even a single Heat Sword to craft / use the dual version.
(BTW, Dual Heat Swords is, funnily enough, actually a Heat Sword + Heat Dagger combo.)

The only instance where you might want to keep weapons you're not using
is if those weapons are crafting ingredients for other weapons:

Thanks for that. As is often the case in complicated games like this, that has given me more questions. 🙂
