It really depends on what weapon your using, a paris prime for example can easily do 1000+ dmg per shot whilst a soma will never even be close to it. 

Mods such as damage mods including hornet strike, serration and pressure point (normal melee) will increase your damage. But first off all you should upgrade armour piercing damage first if the weapon already has poor base armour pierce (this may change to the upcoming updates). Afterwards you can use elemental mods. So yea it depends on the weapons and it's armour pierce.

Serration (or the equivalent for your weapon type) to get the base damage up, cause from that all bonus elemental damage (AP, Fire, Frost) is calculated. Than add maxed elemental damage based on what you're fighting (or have available). If you have a weapon that has a very high crit chance and crit damage multiplyer you could also improve your damage output by further increasing crit chance and crit damage, the new soma assault rifle is a good example for that as you can get it to 87.5 critchance, meaning almost all shots will be critical hits leading to 3x damage unmodded which can be further boosted with max crit damage mods.

But like mentioned, all that is based on the base damage, so increasing that is critical if you want to get high damage numbers. And again, this will only give you the biggest possible numbers, not the highest DPS for the weapon. As some are for example better with high fire-rate, etc than maxing the basic damage.

Special case are melee weapons where the normal attack damage does influence the charged attack and vice versa, for high damage numbers (not necesserily highest DPS) going with maxing the charged damage is probably the best way.

Sure thing.

 

Let's take Lex. The most beloved pistol is a bit unerestimated due to awful dealing against an armor.

 

However, we're going to make it inflict 1000 dmg.

 

1. First of is hornet strike. Maxed hornet strike will give +220% to you base damage. So after applying hornet strike, we've got 224 dmg per hit.

2. Second of mandatory part is multishot: it's presents with lethal torrent and barrel diffusion mods, gaining you 80% to hit 3 times: 672

3. And third of mandatory part is armor piercing mod, giving you addition 90% of armor piercing damage (605). And ending value is: 1277

 

This will give you ending value, but if you wish to see a single damage number, you should remove multishots and replace them with crit mods and expel mods:

1. Base 70+hornet strike (220%)+expel grineer (+30%) = 245

2. Crit base damage (150%)*(1+target cracker (60%)) = 240%

3. crit damage = 245*240% = 588 base or 1176 per headshot against grineer.

Bows, sniper rifles, Ogris, etc., deal tons of damage per shot. The Lex is a pocket sniper, and these are all actual snipers, basically. You can get similar damage per shot using shotguns. Assault rifles are damage for dealing 1000 damage per second, while sniper rifles or shotguns are made for dealing 1000 damage per shot.

 

Heavy melee weapons can easily reach 1k damage per charged attack. To put it simply, armor pierce, normal damage and multishot mods are absolutely mandatory. Multishot literally adds a second bullet for no extra ammo, or doubles your damage essentially. Damage mods boost damage, and armor pierce is the best element, as it ignores armor.

Can't say anything about melee, because I'm not a melee guy.

 

As for primary, yes, the only option for you to see a single 1000+ damage number is using snipers/bows/launchers.

 

Latron Prime has the most damage per hit among the assault rifles - 500 per crit and 1000 per headshot using the crit build.

Also, you can take Miter: 250 charged damage =>663 dmg with serration which is 1800+ dmg against the light infested.
