Iron Staff Prime and Gladiator Set Bonus

Question

I have been reading a wildly varying amount of information regarding set bonuses and exalted mods, so I'm just trying to set things straight. Does equipping Helios' weapon with gladiator mods impact the Gladiator set bonus for Wukong? Does equipping your melee weapon with gladiator mods impact the Gladiator set bonus?

And finally, if set bonuses no longer apply to Wukong's Iron Staff, is he not in a good place right now? I was running a solo survival and was having troubles chewing through enemies after about 15 minutes, which is pretty disappointing.

Thanks for the help 🙂

-- Equipping a Set mod to Helios / Deconstructor will count that mod toward that set bonus.  Only one mod of each name will count, so equipping the same mod to Deconstructor and your melee will only count one.

-- Set mods equipped to Exalted weapons do NOT count as equipping that mod in the set (unless it's also equipped elsewhere), and its' bonus will not apply.  The normal effect of the mod will still apply to the Exalted weapon.

What about equipping set mods into your non-exalted melee weapon? Will that work with your exalted melee weapon equipped?

The set bonus will apply to any equipment which that stat can be applied to.  The mod's main effect only applies to the equipment where the mod is located.

For example, let's equip a copy of Gladiator Vice (+30% attack speed) to a Fragor, a Deconstructor, and your Iron Staff.

Fragor will have +30% Attack speed, and +10% critical chance per combo multiplier.

Deconstructor will have +30% Attack speed, and +10% critical chance per combo multiplier.  (The set bonus counts only once for Vice)

Iron Staff will have +30% Attack speed, and ZERO critical chance per combo multiplier. Set bonuses do not apply to Exalted weapons.

Wukong's staff isn't in a good place, and no exalted melee weapons have been since the melee changes that made all other melees generally more viable with no changes at all to exalteds.

That doesn't mean that Wukong is in a bad place, though - his rework makes him an incomparably mobile regen tank coupled with the best spectre in the game. Build him for full efficiency and a lot of duration and ignoring strength and range, ignore his 4 entirely, get a melee you like, and give him a nice big gun for his spectre to aimbot watching your back with. Keep 1500 armor at all times from his 3 by getting shot a bit every minute or so, and press 2 to not die, instantly heal yourself and a pet, or travel rapidly and unmolested to anywhere in the map you like. It's a good kit.

So if I'm understanding this right, Iron Staff won't actually activate the set bonus, nor benefit from it, even if it's equipped on the deconstructor and not on it itself?

From the wiki:

While Set Mods can be equipped on Exalted Weapons, they will not contribute to nor benefit from set bonuses, but the regular effect of the mod will still apply. This also applies to Venari.

  • The Sacrificial Set is an exception to this.
  • The Vilgilante Set and Gladiator Set can still apply if equipped on Warframe, Primary, Melee, or Robotic Weapons, and not on the Exalted Weapon itself.

...Hmmm...  Apparently I had it wrong.  Iron Staff DOES get the +10% bonus.

Got it, so essentially as long as you don't equip the gladiator mods in the exalted weapon itself, you can gain the benefit from Gladiator Mods from any other piece of equipment.

To be clear, though, something like an Orthos Prime will definitely outperform it as long as you have Blood Rush after just a couple of combo stacks. The damage on the Iron Staff is very high, but it's not an extra crit tier.

Edit: Actually, it might be just that, depending on the weapon you're comparing it to. =/

I agree with this so hard in fact Wukong is my main. I just override his 4th in Helminth with Perspicacity for Spy/Rescue/Sabotage,  Airburst for index and SP, and Golden Instinct for Derelict/ Syndicate missions. He pretty much my goto for everything except hunting/fishing and riven challenges. (where I may pull out loki/ Ivara)
