[Suggestion] New Faction: Space Pirates

Why not add a new frame while you're at it? Parts drop from the Pirate King. Let's call the new frame, Marauder.

It's not exactly the same, but I too thought a pirate should drop a frame. I went with the scavenger and junk-tech idea and applied it to the Frame.

Bear with me, because this one might be too “out there” for some.

Vorran the Chimera

A mysterious Zaan rogue who seems to have unlocked the mysteries of the Warframes. He wears a strangely blended suit of Warframe pieces, primarily Excalibur, Loki, and Mag.

Fight

This guy is an incredibly rare fight. When defeating a non-Zaan boss Chimera has a small chance (1%?) to de-cloak and finish them off. He will then call out the Stalker, calling him a coward and a fool. It should be clear Chimera thinks of Stalker as his “White whale”. The Tenno can then fight Chimera. He moves just like a Tenno does and wields a special Bolt Rifle, a huge revolver and a Dai-skana all of which he drops blueprints for (100% for 1 of the 3!). Finally he has a relatively small chance (10-20% since he shows up so rarely that he isn’t really farmable) to drop the Chimera Frame blueprint, which needs a finished Excalibur, Loki and Mag as components!

The Chimera’s secret!

If killed by a melee blow, a cinematic will play of Chimera’s helmet slowly splitting open revealing an even more ravaged Cpt Vor! That’s right Chimea is a renegade Vor clone that left the Grineer to track down the secrets of the Void on his own!

Chimera’s powers

1. Flash step (10) – Chimera turns invisible and moves forwards in a straight line very quickly. No damage.

2. Repulsion Trap (50) – creates a holographic decoy that repells attacks back to their origin

3. Switch polarity (75) – a short ranged switch teleport that supercharges (fully refills and adds 50% over maximum!) the users and an ally's shields or disrupts an enemy’s.

4. EM Lance (100) – this ult fires a massive metal spike using electromagnetic forces. It deals huge damage and has infinite penetration.

So what if, instead of being just rando pirates they are instead rouge Tenno al-la le Stalker. Eh? Ehhh?  How awesome would it be to fight a faction who are at least SOMEWHAT comparable to us in terms of power and maneuverability?

Oh, yeah. I've been meaning to do more art for this but got distracted by a D&D game I'm DMing. I'll put aside some creative time over the long weekend for Space Pirates :)

Seems like they would have overwhelmed the other factions by now. It would also remove any interest left in the Stalker as he would no longer be special. I can get behind a rogue cell (4 Stalkers), but not a full faction of Nega-Tenno.

As for manueverability, the Devs said recently that they where looking into wallrunning for the AI, and in the preview for the Alad V cinimatic, his giant robot runs up a wall.

Fancy, not to derail the thread but are you guys livestreaming that or just a private session between friends? :P

Just between friends. I would get hideous "stage" fright :P

That almost made me try to gather my old DnD group again. Too bad I know for certain they don't have time.

It's hard getting my group together too sometimes. Being adults with different schedules and responsibilities sucks!

Indeed. Especially if the group has fallen apart a few years ago when you moved to other city, and now barely anyone even keeps contact between themselves.

I really, really, REALLY wish now that we weren't so damned inventive with homerules. It's hard enough making new friends for me, and I found out that I barely know the actual vanilla rulebooks.

In that case you might want to take a look at roll20.net, I haven't tried it myself yet but heard great things about it.

Hey, I bet you thought I forgot!

Well I did. Sorry.

Another day another pirate. This heavily armoured boarding specialist thinks killing a Runner is an accomplishment, isn't that cute?

This Zaan Boarder carries a Blunderbuss heavy shotgun and Breaker sniper pistol. They can also throw EMP grenades that damage Warframe energy reserves and deal electric damage.

Also pictured is a "Parrot" a pirate scout unit made out of a Corpus camera and crudely welded EVA thrusters.

I'd like to think I helped! If only I had bothered to learn Photoshop. I am frustrated by layers :P

I was annoyed with layers when i started photoshop, untill i learned locking and/or hiding layers could simplify so much

What's happened here? Just got back and heard there was a DnD session. Can I join? I usually do half-elf druids.

Anyways, as per the pirate concept, why not let Alad V become the pirate instead? The lore would accommodate it since now he has been replaced (?) by Frohd Ber and is supposedly dead. He can become the Pirate Lord since he's a resourceful man. Though I would replace his voice, since he doesn't sound so "piratey". Maybe in the fight he got struck in the neck and had to replace his vocal chords.

Meh... I dunno. Alad seems more than happy to sit back and hide behind Zanuka, I can't really imagine the bloke to assist much in piraty deals. He just had all his funding cut and is kinda blacklisted.

This sounds perfect for a setting like Warframe. Considering the system is being overrun by a war between genocidal clone troopers, an underhanded, profitmongering merchant's union, and an the Lovecraft virus, there are bound to be civilian colonies out there that had to take up piracy just to survive, or perhaps even just really unsatisfied Corpus customers. Meanwhile they don't particularly even hate the Tenno, but some would look upon your awesome weaponry with envy and think "meh, I can take him. How tough can he be?". In short, perhaps not every pirate automatically aggroes Tenno on sight, just for story sake?

Plus this could give way to new Invasion missions where the Grineer or Corpus are up to their necks in pirates to the point they are willing to pay the Tenno to help them, meanwhile one of the less raving mad pirate "captains" would be willing to share the spoils if you help his crew get out alive.

But yeah, if they do use this, they should probably just act more like "pirates" in the manner of "scraped together some makeshift gear and went on a robbing spree" than the whole "maritime miscreants" theme. Do think the shoulder-mounted "gun parrot" is a nice touch, though.
