Actually not sure, I think it was based of the game this all was supposed to go to.. Also, he has a small horn on his head, if they did a full horn on the Rhino... It would look like any other stereotypical game that has no creativity. Luckily, our Devs have some, and also some magic too. I find Excal being more of a Rhino or a prototype to all the "animal" frames to come....I honestly believe Excal is just a regualar Tenno....as well as Nyx....and Rhino...I think Rhino got his name from his abilities rather than design..... He uses his entire body on the charge. Besides i dont think he was themed after the animal itself but more like a raw unstoppable force.
