Before the Fall: 01 Eden

“Grineer dominance is inevitable” were the last words Vor ever spoke as two bullets smashed against the lightly armored veteran’s forehead. The Grineer captain croaked a few more words in his guttural tongue before crumpling in a heap on the cold alloy floor.

An odd, yet distinctly feminine figure landed a few meters away, holding a rectangular automatic rifle as a counterbalance against the aerial acrobatics that allowed the Saryn to bury the 40 caliber rounds that turned the brain of the captain into mush. Her wiry legs allowed her to effortlessly recover from the low crouch she landed in. She spared the repulsive clone’s body a glance as it disintegrated before she walked away.

Saryn made her way through the base as quickly as her bulky frame would allow. The full body armor and the various tumor-like growths of flesh and metal on various parts of her form slowed her somewhat, but this additional weight did not make her clumsy. She was still graceful, just like the others, even the faster frames. Despite the stocky rifle and her constant movement, she still put a bullet or two in the head, mostly the face really, of the responding Grineer troops.

She slipped from an exact color copy of herself, a second skin, as a snake would then rolled to the right, turning around to finish the fools who peppered the molting with bullets. It was a handy trick she used several times to whittle the growing crowd of cybernetic clones pursuing her. Several bullets zipped near her heavily armored body as the flood of green and yellow armor gained. Saryn slid into a tight turn then leaned against the wall as she drew a blade that was more misshapen than her form. The razor edge glinted amidst the mass of alloy and tissue and bone that dripped a sickly yellow green liquid. She hovered the index and middle finger of her left hand above the base of the blade then let it glide towards the tip, thickening the noxious coat. She tightened the grip on her blade and prepared for the onslaught.

Saryn leapt atop a high stack of crates and waited in the shadows for the pursuers. A few heavily armored scouts rushed swinging their rifles from side to side, looking for their prey. A couple of blade-wielding troops then rushed. When the group eased in and a tall Grineer toting a heavy looking grenade launcher stopped in the middle of the gathering, she struck. The warframe crashed to the ground pinning the leader of the group to the rock that covered this corridor. A cloud of poison enveloped her and started eating the exposed flesh of the nearby soldiers. They all turned towards the frame and started firing.

Saryn managed to cut down the first half dozen lancers that she got hold of, before the first round hit her. A pale blue glow prevented physical damage, but the hail of bullets that came her way ate at her shields and finally negated it. Rolling and sliding from corpse to corpse was becoming less and less effective as the troop of clones formed up and started spreading out. Pain exploded in her leg as a bullet penetrated armor and muscle to lodge itself. Saryn staggered back before rushing the shooter and slicing him and the adjacent Grineer into chunks of meat. One round grazed her faceplate before one found her right shoulder, then her left bicep.

She impaled the blade in the hard stone floor to support her as she fell to one knee at the barrage. She lifter her face to the cold metal ceiling as if to implore the gods to spare her, then let out a psychic scream. No being heard it but all the life forms in the area felt pure dark hate that emanated from the warframe. Saryn clenched her fist before she opened it and slammed it against the rock beneath her. Strands of living death surged from her hand and covered very living thing nearby, then slowly consumed. The screams that echoed through the corridors and halls of the asteroid almost sated the malevolence of the frame… almost.
