Noob Question - Which Handguns Are Spent When Making The Ak Version?

Hello, sorry if this has been asked before, but I don't quite know how to word it to Google. I'll take a single link if it's been answered somewhere :D

 

So I currently have a level 30 Lex, and am thinking of buying two additional unranked Lexes to make the AKLex. I was wondering, with the way blueprints work, will I get to choose which ones are spent and/or will the system do the logical thing and avoid spending my level 30 one? Is equipping the one I want to keep a sure way to keep it?

You get to choose, but I wouldn't get any ak pistols, unless you got the akbronco prime or dex furis.
