Velocitus Hit Detection Is Flakey

Here is a screenshot.

Notice my reticle.  The bright blue streak under the reticle is the trail of the Velocitus projectile, and the sparks on the pipe to the right are where it actually hit.  This happens extremely frequently if you are near a wall, and you can unload the weapon at an enemy 10 meters in front of you to no effect.

 

Given that Velocitus also occasionally seems to "hit" when you aim just to the side of an enemy, it feels like this weapon has a cylinder of hit detection rather than being a pinpoint at the reticle center, and that this leads to a lot of weirdness.
