Info about Crohn's and me The number of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients in the U.S. has now increased to an estimated 1.6 million, and growing. Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affects 1 in 200 people in the United States. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system. Many patients are misdiagnosed at least twice before getting proper treatment. Symptoms included weight loss, arthritis, fatigue, urgent bowel movements and severe abdominal pain. In an effort to raise awareness for patients like me and families dealing with IBD, I am joining forces with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and many others to celebrate IBD Awareness Week 2014. Due to the enactment of Senate Resolution 199, the week of December 1-7 is reserved to encourage all Americans to help find cures for inflammatory bowel diseases and raise support for Americans battling Crohn’s and colitis through awareness and advocacy. I am hosting a fundraiser here on my page, starting from midnight on December 5 until midnight December 6. My Crohn’s Story: I was diagnosed with Crohn's as a child. It wasn't a difficult assumption for my doctors to make, since my mother suffered with severe Crohn's all of her life. Unfortunately, I have had over 30 surgeries and procedures thus far, and leave the house only for doctor and hospital visits. Being confined to the house for more than half my life would have been unbearable if I did not have my video games. Gaming provided me with an outlet for the frustrations, the stress, and the chronic pain I deal with, and the many friends I have met on line have saved me from the isolation of being housebound. I am lucky to have them in my life. IBD awareness is not just a day or a week. Crohn’s and colitis awareness is all year, and we need your support to end these horrible diseases. But that will not happen because corporations have their own agenda and they will resist GMO food labeling unless more people will realise how they are poisoned by food.
