Solar Rails

On one side we have the idea that solar rails use void energy and that they were used before the old war. Meaning the orokin could use void based travel without being affected by the void.

On the other hand we have the idea that if solar rails were used before the war they wouldn't have used void energy. So they were used during and possibly arfter the war.

To start off I shall paste our last comments from our previous discussion.

The Solar rails are void based travel. (See mag Prime Codex or my quote from it further up the page)

The old lore for the Orokin was quite explicit that the solar rails were what allowed the expansion of the Orokin Empire, the expansion of the empire pre-dates the Old War hence the Orokin using the void pre-dates the Old war.

The effects of the void on an unshielded humans, is the aspect that the Orokin "turned to" during the war. But the void was their transport method long before that point.

These two points clash. If they already had void based travel they would know the effects it had on people because people would of been exposed to the void energy when using the solar rails.

In the Zariamn incident it says "The Zariman was lost making the fold from saturn to the Outer gates. Mechanical failure.". Normally when we talk about a fold in space we are talking about a wormhole, allowing instantaneous travel from point A to point B. If we consider the origin of folding space is from the book series Dune (by Frank Herbert) then we can say that the fold mentioned in the Zariman incident isn't a wormhole but rather travel at "translight speed". However "Nothing ever returns from the fold..." so if nothing ever returns why where they using it? *enter orokin cover up*

So from this we can say that the solar rails were not functional until the time of the tenno (because Mag was using one in her codex). Meaning that when we say "it allowed the orokin to expand" this could possibly mean expand from their defeat and possibly expand even futher arfter the war.

Assumption: The cermony where the tenno were honoured (and killed everyone) could of possibly been some years arfter the war. Were the tenno used not just for the war but to expan the orokin's grasp?

Feel free to jump in/out/sideways?

Not sure why you would attempt to associate a fairly broad sci fi premise as 'folding space' with one particular series. Wormholes and folding space are fairly synonymous, as all essentially imply getting from point A to point B without actually traveling across the distance to get there.

"Nothing ever returns from the fold" I imagine references being stuck in limbo; as in folding space, but never quite making it to Point B.

Mostly because solar rails don't sound like they open worm holes but Ember's codex still refers to it as a fold between two places. Using Mag's codex it sounds as if the solar rails fling ships across space like the relays of Mass Effect. So finding a link between folding space and going at faster then light speeds resulted in this.

The quote came from Ember's codex, in this case it would refer to being stuch in the void.

"Nothing ever returns from the fold" is intended to imply that nothing returns on its own. You need a functioning drive to make the translation back to real space and without that you're trapped forever.

The orokin could easily have known about the effects of void exposure; but you don't research a phenomenon that routinely kills or disappears the researchers unless you have good reason. Once they had a safe drive and shield configuration they likely rested assured that the problem was solved.

When the Sentients had them on the ropes they went back to the early void exposure cases and realized some people survived; in a new and disturbing form. One they could use to win the war. At that point, the plan to create the Tenno was likely born.

TLDR:

Essentially, the void is DE's cop out for not explaining everything with some scientific mumbo jumbo. The void is literally stated to "defy all logic and laws of physics" (or something close to that).

Just like the Tesseract. Just like the All-Spark. Just like magic (literally the whole idea).

The void is used to explain sh*t that don't make no sense.

Put simply:

SPACE MAGIC!!!

So don't go in depth unless you truly enjoy it.
