TrashSpider
Alright so I'm finally getting my first rig *after my friend kept telling me to convert to a pc guy and stop sticking with a laptop. Now at the moment I already have a i3, but I want to upgrade to a I5 processor, and am confused on the cores is it more beneficial to get a quad? Does it perform task faster? Upgrading to a 960 GTX as well, or should I wait? My budget isn't exactly a issue http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-4590-BX80646I54590-Processor-Cache/dp/B00J2LIFBY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1424242673&sr=1-1&keywords=i5+processor or get a quad core instead? http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-4670K-Quad-Core-Desktop-Processor/dp/B00CO8TBOW/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1424242673&sr=1-4&keywords=i5+processor Edited February 18, 2015 by Aeronomatic
Myscho
Both are quad core, but 4670K have better overclock options if you have a motherboard with Z chipset
NinjaSnipe11
and am confused on the cores is it more beneficial to get a quad? No, getting a quad core will not affect your in game performance. It's a common misconception. You only need it if you are planning to plot satellite trajectories but I'd just let NASA handle that. Just stick with a single core, it's cheaper and uses less power.
TrashSpider
Both are quad core, but 4670K have better overclock options if you have a motherboard with Z chipset Wouldn't that cause a larger amount of heat though? Or do you guys have better recommendation? I also like to thank you guys for helping me out.

Myscho
You need to change that motherboard, because have different socket (1155) than processors (1150), you need to find board with socket 1150 like Gigabyte Z97-D3H Edited February 18, 2015 by Myscho

I was joking, sorry (I'm a bad monkey). Anyhow a quadcore is basically 4 times as many processors and a single core. It's important to have a good processor for gaming and a overall better computer experience. I think you'd be fine with a quadcore i5. The processor you have listed is not compatible with that motherboard, though. Use this one instead http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-3470-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B0087EVHVW/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1424244386&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=i5+sockedt+1155. Or find a socket 1150 motherboard.
