seth
first of all snipertron was basicly lanka 1.0 and it was hit scan but for a ghauss rifle it made no sense so it was removed and all the people who did the 1 event i cant remeber on top of my head were awarded with snipertron vandal, that was a stronger version of this hitscan ghauss rifle and now one of the strongest ? snipers around, not a railgun the structure of the weapon would break in a single shot. Snipetron was Tenno weapon, and design wise it didn't make sense because it had Corpus design; DE removed Snipetron and that was followed with community rage, so they added event where upon finishing you would get Snipetron Vandal (way better version) and a Snipetron blueprint. Lanka was introduced later with Dojo labs.
Tali
it should travel faster as a rail gun can shoot a projectile with a speed of 2.39 km/s (mach 7)

Mastikator2
railguns fire MUCH faster than conventional bullets/shells railgun: 8,200 ft/s (2,500 m/s) http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_Rail_Gun.htm cannon: 2,500 ft/s (762 m/s) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16%22/50_caliber_Mark_7_gun Buffing the Lanka projectile speed from 200 to 2500 would be a nice buff. (PSN)Zeylon
Lanka, in a technical sense, isn't actually a railgun. It's a gauss rifle, otherwise known as a coilgun, also otherwise known as the things that people today can make in their garages. Coilguns are actually well known for being quiet, launching ferromagnetic projectiles, most commonly can be things like coins and such. Basically anything that can be launched by a magnet. So, it's not a railgun. It's a gauss rifle. But the projectile, indeed, should be faster. Wiki suggests it's neither... http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Lanka The Lanka is either a railgun or a coilgun. Two different real life weapon types that work using magnetism. Which makes sense.... it does electrical damage. It's a directed energy weapon. There is no ferrous slug.

Its projectile time is too horrible for it to be a sniper. 220 m/s is hard to manage in PvE and almost impossible in PvP. It would be lovely to have it at least doubled or tripled, the increase in accuracy and the viability it would have as a longer range weapon would greatly improve the sniper as a whole. [DE]Momaw
The biggest flaw with the Lanka is the wildly variable result of shooting it. If you are using a slow-firing sniper type weapon that has the capacity to kill in one hit, but due to a bad crit it doesn't and the target survives, then functionally you missed. Lanka has a high base damage, but the power of the weapon comes from crits and the crit chance peaks at only 62.5%. That means if you're shooting the Lanka, you have a 36.5% chance that each projectile will fail to crit i.e. miss. This is on top of the baffling 10% chance for half damage that all primaries have given the problem with Split Chamber. The only thing Lanka needs to assume its crown as the best sniper rifle in the game is a 40% crit chance. If it becomes a reliable weapon, then it becomes an epic weapon on the same level as the Paris Prime and Dread. Alternatively, if we're sick of crit based precision weapons, then turn the crit chance down to 5%, turn the status chance up to 50%, and make it a semi-automatic with no charge time and a 15 round magazine. Now you have an elemental battle rifle, which is more in line with how the Corpus show it being used.
