notlamprey
I remain unconcerned. People in this country are tired of feeling like they have too little power in the affairs of government; a discussion on whether that's true and what might be done about it would take forever. "Corporate America" does have an outsized amount of influence in Congress, and a lot of people are convinced that electing a businessman to do battle with businessmen might usher in change for the better. It's worth remembering that the people who like Trump seem to be the most "motivated" of the current candidate fan clubs. If he were to take office, that much "slash and burn until we get our way" attitude all going in the same direction might actually make something finally happen around here. No guarantees that something would be good, though. We're still over a year from the election date, and it's nothing but ballyhoo for several months to come. At this point, my vote is probably going to Bern it all down.
Sovamorne
I think I'll move to volkswagenland. sorry It's not for nothing, the Scandinavian countries are doing great for themselves. A country's economic model has an effect on the behavior of people who live in it. Capitalist America sees people trying to make money at every turn they can, with corporations and government workers skimming off the take, taking bribes, political favors etc. Countries like Norway, Sweden, Iceland, have the Nordic model, a combination of a welfare state and a capitalist one. In it, you've still got the social moblility of a capitalist state, while there is a universal financial safety net. As a result, Sweden's in the top 5 least corrupt countries in the world because there's a much smaller emphasis on making money. As of 2014, Denmark was #1. I do wish there was a political party for it, and that people wouldn't jump to saying "oh it's socialism", when it's economic socialism and not societal. Stay out of Stockholm though.
