Multishot And The Potential For Rebalancing To Become Unneaded Punishment.

With the announcement that multishot mods will be re-balanced, and the heat that the "don't nerf" and "nerf" camps are throwing at each other, I thought I'd put in my two cents.

Being a relative newcomer to Warframe, the Split Chamber mod is something that gave me a bit of a foothold in the game at large; even with a weapon from the lower mastery ranks, I was still able to hold my own with the more veteran players, and not have to be revived every 45 seconds.

The main issue I'm seeing in re-balancing these mods isn't simply a pining for the easy path, but rather a fear of punishment; I have no issue with the devs trying to add more diversity to their game. What I do have an issue with is the potential for the devs to try and force this diversity onto us by dropping a sledge hammer on our heads. I understand the logic behinds adding increased ammo consumption to a mod that puts an extra bullet in the barrel, but if the cost of that extra bullet is 5o% of my ammo reserves, then the mod is punishing rather than balanced, especially if the weapon has a low ammo reserve.

If DE wants to go ahead with re-balancing multishot, then they need to be careful of not straying to far into punishing territory.

If were lucky, we'll see our mods be given a solid 15% to 25% reduction in reserve ammo.

If we're really lucky, we'll get mods with a 10% to 15% decrease in multishot chance, and have some corrupted mods that would boost the multishot chance, and add that level of ammo consumption that would get players to stop and think about their weapon balance.

And if we're unlucky, we'll get mods that have a 50% to 60% reduction in reserve ammo, or mods that will subtract the extra bullet(s) from the mag or reserve when fired. Personally, I don't know which one of those is worse.

That's just what I see happening. What about you guys?

Note: Just watched Mogamu's video on the subject, and he brings up some really good points. If you haven't already, go check it out.

The devs are planning a full-scale rework of mods and scaling. The "multishot = multi-ammo" thing that they mused about in last week's devstream was something that they just came up with on the spot with pretty much no planning beforehand; it's not going to happen. At least, not without the full scaling rework complementing it.

Dropping a sledgehammer on our heads is probably the simplest and easiest way to fix Warfame's lack of challenge. Currently, the reason for the suckage of Warframe's endgame is comprised of a multitude of problems all stacking on top of each other, with "we kill too fast" as the foundation that the web of issues has been constructed on top of.

Another possible solution would be a complete rework to enemy scaling, but either a buff to the enemies or a nerf to our killing power are both viable solutions.

Nerf-hating has become commonplace in this toxic bog of a forum, so let me clear up the issue for everyone to whom common knowledge isn't as common as the name would imply:

If you think all nerfs are evil, then you have no place in any discussion regarding game balance whatsoever, because you fail to comprehend one of the most basic principles of game design. A developer saying all nerfs are evil is like a carpenter saying their hammer is evil. Nerfs are no more evil than buffs; a hammer is no more evil than a screwdriver. They're just used for different things.

Not gonna lie, if multishot does end up consuming additional ammo, machine pistols will be done for. Either the DPS is going to be abysmal, or you will be consuming so much ammo not even primed ammo mutation can save you.

The Dex Furis is already capable of going through the entire clip in less than 2 seconds, this will just essentially turn it into a 1 click weapon.

Time to stock up on ammo consumables.

I believe Primed Pistol Ammo Mutation will replish an out-of-ammo weapon in ~3 ammo pickups.

But as SortaRandom said, the whole mod set is getting the nuclear treatment.  Heck we might even see some slots turned into utility slots.

Perhaps you shouldn't be able to hold your own with the veterans?  BTW, it's quite easy to not die every 45s, even for an MR ~4.
