Status chance with multiple damage types

Question

How do status procs work with multiple damage types? On the wiki it says that only 2 status effects can be caused by one attack, which means that you can have multiple procs at once, but does that mean that if you have more than one damage type and you get a status proc, you will always cause 2 status effects? Or is it random? Or some other system? If you don't always get the max (capped at 2) number of status effects from a proc, does a higher status chance increase the likelihood that you get 2?

it's random, the chance is based on the amount of damage compared to the others and only proc one per bullet (if you have more blast damage, it will proc more often than electric), plus the physical damage has 4x more chances to proc than elemental damage, unless the weapon don't have any (gammacor, atomos...)

You generally only proc one status effect per attack or damage. Things proc twice when the weapon itself has an innate proc chance.

Status is a little complex and can be difficult to translate using the in-game UI.

Each attack or damage you do has a chance to proc status but the UI is telling you the probability per shot. This happens with shotguns or when using mulltishot. When you have say Split Chamber you technically attack 1.9 times per bullet even when the damage is displayed once. which means you have a chance to proc status 1.9 times on average.

Each damage type has a proc weight which determines it's ability to proc. Physical damage types have x4 the weight of elemental types. Meaning if you do 50 Slash Damage and 100 Corrosive damage in a single attack with 100% status chance you have a 60% chance of the proc being a Bleed and 30% chance of it being a Corrosive proc.

The basic gist of it is the more status chance and the more of a specific damage type you do. The more likely you will get procs from that specific damage type.

So wait if you fire multiple projectiles at once like with the cernos prime, in this exampke lets say it has 100% status then how would it work if it fires 6 arrows?

Most weapons that fire multiple projectiles like Shotguns, Twin Grakatas and Ignis use the probability of status per shot in the UI and not the status per pellet but each pellet is capable of a status proc.

I haven't tested Cernos Prime itself but if it functions in the same way then 100% status chance would mean each arrow has a status trigger of 1 meaning each arrow will proc status and each shot would have a status trigger equal the to arrows fired, in this case 5. So it would trigger status 5 times per shot.

When dealing with pellet type weapons a 100% status chance (before multishot mods) is incredibly important as the difference between 99% and 100% is massive. By comparison at 99% status chance before would be 3.5 status triggers per shot at 5 arrows. This is why players go nuts over 100% status shotguns.

Of course it's entirely possible that Cernos Prime's status rating is set per Arrow and not probability per shot. Weapons can be inconsistent at times, esp the ones with unique mechanics but it's safe to say each projectile has it's own chance to proc status. The calculation of that status chance would just differ.

It's important to calculate your status chance before multishot mods as multishot increases the number of available procs and your probability to proc per shot but does not increase your chance per bullet or pellet.
