Making an alt-skin and alt-helm (model) for Halloween. Do I need to worry about regular helm skin?

If I'm working on a combo: alt-skin + alt helmet (re-model), do I still have to make an alt skin for the regular helmet?

I'm not sure about you problem.

Do you ask if you need to make a texture set for the base helmet shape to match your skin ?
If this is your question, no, if you make an alt helmet to match the skin, you don't need to retexture the base helmet.

You can only remodel the helm. You can't re model the skin.
