IIRC it does affect the time between your last bullet fired and the auto-reload starting if you keep mashing on primary fire. 
Doesn't matter anyway since you can hit reload at the exact moment you fire and skip that minor animation delay.

In what way does it affect reload? Wiki says only something about automatic reload being delayed by 0.5s, nothing about its interaction with fire rate.

The wiki isn't always right. Case in point, ran across just yesterday on the Zenistar page; according to it, the Zenistar's disc is affected by status chance of melee mods equipped. (The Zenistar disc is 100% status chance no matter what).

However, in this particular case, it seems fire rate and reload don't work the way they did a few years ago in this regard. There was once a time when there was a delay before you were allowed to reload when mashing primary fire, but it was easily ignored via manually reloading the exact moment you fired your last round—which had a 0.5sec speed increase vs reloading with even 1 bullet left in the chamber.

It was such a paltry, trivial thing that was being circumvented by players so I guess they just said "fine do whatever you want." I do recall something along those lines in a patch notes some ways back. Better this way anyway. o3o
