Beam Weapons and Fire Rare idea

 Sadly, not noted here are BEAM weapons - they should be ready soon, but we are revisiting them to be more 'like they used to be' in terms of damage instances over time but with a fixed fire rate. Fire Rate mods and their effects are still being determined. The Beam Weapon Category is simply not ready for this Update, but we are still working on it!

I have a suggestion:

Beam Weapons have a set fire rate, but they gain a damage BONUS over time through sustained fire which decays over time while NOT being fired. 

Fire Rate would effect this by increasing the rate the weapon's bonus grows to its cap, and maybe for the sake of balance also increases the decay rate if that needs to be there, but ideally it wouldn't.

I've always been curious about firerate with beam weapons. Do they actually do damage at the rate listed, per second, or is there a cap. I know the ammo drains appropriate to the fire rate but damage doesn't seem to always coincide with the drain.
