Display Driver Crash

Hey Guys.

Had a recurring theme where the display driver would crash, kick me back to desktop and after a while just exiting altogether and getting the Warframe crash report.

Funnily enough it had stopped for quite a while but now it seems to have returned.

Running on the following specs.

Intel i7 5820k

Nvidia GTX 980Ti

MSI X99s SLI Plus Motherboard

Any help or workarounds would be appreciated.

Is your GPU/CPU overclocked?

What NVIDIA driver are you using?

Does it happen only in Warframe or other games too?

GPU was a Zotac so I believe it was indeed OC'd but I've not touched anything. CPU hasn't been touched.

391.24, It's not the latest because of an unrelated issue to Warframe, it was causing my games to freeze for several seconds and go back to normal.

Literally only Warframe I get the driver crash. To quote the notification I get

"Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" Application Warframe.64 has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware.

Now, where have I heard that error before... What version of Windows are you using? 10? is the latest build?

Hm, not sure then. Your driver isn't even that out of date, and if it's not happening in other games that kinda rules out my theory of a Windows updating breaking the driver. Might be an idea to put in a support ticket to DE and see what they say if you haven't already.

Yeah did it today and sent off the relevant files for them to mull over. It's just frustrating really as they said themselves to me on an earlier support ticket, I believe during the Plains of Eidolon hotfixes that it would of been dealt with and it was but now it's just come back lmao.

Been playing all afternoon and came back  2hrs ago to play as per usual and something weird happened when trying to launch the game, a message came up saying "memory failed" i believe it said (happened pretty quickly) and closed the launcher itself..When i tried again and logged in it has become unplayable.I have tried to optimize cache etc but same unplayable lag kicks in.. (Never has happened before bar the DDOS crap recently) Drivers etc. are up to date GPU/CPU isn't overclocked.

This post has some suggestions. See top reply (Microsoft reply).

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware-winpc/windows-10-application-has-been-blocked-from/641352ce-59f9-416e-9c0a-9b8787b9ed56

Microsoft Response (EDIT: see second spoiler for what apparently worked in the end. Thanks to forum "usability" it is not separated as it should be)

I suggest you to perform the below methods and check if it helps:

Method 1: Run the System Maintenance troubleshooter and check if it helps.
1.  Type troubleshooting in the search box and then press enter.
2.  Select Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select System Maintenance.
3.  Click next and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue still persists, try method 2.

Method 2: Uninstall and Re-install the graphic card driver.
You can follow the below steps.
1. Press Windows Key + R, type devmgmt.msc.
2. Select the graphic driver.
3. Click on properties, click on uninstall tab.
4. Click OK.
5. Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Now download the drivers from manufacturer website and install it in Windows 10 compatibility mode. Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:
1. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on properties.
2. Click on the compatibility tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select

Windows 10 operating system from the drop down.
3. Click on Apply and click OK and run the file to install it.

If the issue still persists, try method 3.

Method 3: Run the Hardware Devices troubleshooter.

1. Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel.
2. Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.
3. Click on view all on the left pane.
4. Click on Hardware and devices under Devices.
5. Click on Advanced on the Hardware and devices dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).
6. Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

What apparently worked

Here is the FIX:

1. Identify what application is getting blocked.

2. Locate application on your hard drive and take not of its full path.

3. Open your anti-virus software.

4. Exclude the path you have noted at point 2.

5. Repeat this if you have other AV or Malware software.

6. Reboot your PC.

The issue will be gone.

If not remove all your AV and Malware software with removal tools (uninstalling might not get rid of it all including registry entries).

Allow Windows 10 to use default Anti Virus software and repeat the Exclusions.

This worked for me after spending hours on hours with other fixes.

Good Luck.

My graphics driver is crashing as well, but I get no error message. The game continues playing in the background but it won't display the game.

Everything's up to date and neither the card nor cpu go beyond 45 deg C. Fresh install of win 10 with only steam and OneDrive in the background. Card is a GTX 970.

This happened to me 4 times today while playing the plague star.

Well I managed to get it working. How? I dont know tbh. My motherboard has a thing called OC Genie so I was like meh turned it on and played Warframe for an hour since I had a reply from support so I wanted to make sure the issue was still persisting...

And It wasn't lmao, Did several Plague Star missions and threw in some Eidolon hunting for good measure and everything was fine.
