Tonkor-What We Want Our Snipers To Be?

Honestly, what really irks me is that the Tonkor can get higher crit chance, crit damage, and overall damage along with it's innate AoE explosions to hit multiple enemies; all overall more improved than Sniper Rifles with multiple forma without popping a single one into the Tonkor. The only advantage that Snipers have is general accuracy, but even then the Tonkor grenades can easily go to where you want them to go and can hit enemies in locations snipers are typically unable to reach.

This is like beating a dead horse, it was discuted a lot, but here we go:

Interesting and new mechanics are good, BUT, at the moment the "secondary fire", like the vectis grapling hook proposed, would be the worst thing to happen. ¿why? because the secondary fire atm replaces the zoom, something that its neccesary for the snipers. On the other side, the lanka "augment" would be ok because we can still zoom in, shot charged shots and shot the uncharged mine.

Just to make it clear, i think the buff the snipers need now its:

-scopes

-100% crit on weakspots

-a bit of punchtrough(1 meter or 1 enemy)

-(opcional) thunderbolt for snipers THAT SCALES

I recognise that, for which reason I propose this(also did in the OP, if i remember right):

1)For all non-charge snipers secondary would happen with either

    a)charge

    b) Pressing 1 when zoomed

Pressing one while zoomed would make the secondary fire activate instead of ability!

2)For all charge-snipers, just tap fire.

Lanka require meter to charge at least a quarter before firing, so just tapping should be fine!\

What do you think?

Change the alt fire from zoom+1 to independ key, like 'c', or even the mouse well. This its a personal preference and the bigger problem would be console/gamepad users, as they dont have so many spared keys.

Now we sit and wait.

Sure thing!

intention behind '1; key is you can bind the function to anything you like, and have it still work (looking at you, zoom/secondary fire).

I hope that answers your query!

Um OK.

So firestorm ogris pellets with punchthrough.

Um.

Extra mobility is useless?

For a SR, I would say so. I only use my SR Loki P since invisiblity and sniping go hand in hand, so I would rather have something that causes extra damage instead of some gadget you'll use every once in awhile.

For god's sake man, the grappling hook was just an example! DE is going to come up with much better ideas.

How about throwing a whole mob in stasis so you and your friends can headshot them in peace, for a brief period of time? Stuff's going to be like that.

As for the 'fancy gadget', it can allow you to reach much better ssniping positions much faster and let you change positions more quickly.

Hmm. Those do sound better. The only thing I can think of is you make yourself a Sniper's nest since some maps aren't designed for ledges in mind without glitching stuff.

i don't think snipers are supposed to work that way. Those sound more like warframe powers than sniper rifle things.

Snipers need a buff and a role, not mechanical additions.

The tonkor, for me, is more like a shotgun. I play it like a shot gun and it really is what what our shotguns should be. (well non explosive versions but you know.

If we're going to think weapon stats, i think DE needs to rebalance everything. DE needs to put things in their place, something logical.

it doesn't make sense why an assault rifle with 28.6 accuracy have a higher crit chance compared to a sniper rifle that has 100 accuracy when aimed?

Also, bows, long bows are sniper weapons. They are basically sniper re-skins. The only mechanical difference is the range and the arc of the bow and of course the damage.

The more i think about the sniper problem the more i think it'll take a miracle to fix especially because of soma.

The way I see it, on the damage ladder we have

Launchers and Laser Cannons

Sniper Rifles/Bows

Semi Auto Rifles

Beam Weapons

Full Auto Rifles

Side Arms

Right now full auto rifles cover all the niches. It's a friggin headache.

PS

I think PART of the problem is that MMORPG stats like Crit, is in a game where you can aim. I thought Crit was supposed to be a replacement for being able to aim since you usually cannot aim in the old MMOs like ragnarok, hence crit (you hit what you're supposed to hit)

Mmmm...you raise some good points there.

However I would like to take an example out of Overwatch.

I was seeing the widow-maker's grapple ability and thought to myself wouldn't I love a sniper to have that built into it.

I also repeat:

These are example functions, a bit exaggerated to fit my point. Acctual implementations will obviously be toned down.

Now how snipers work in other games, in fact how guns work in other games should not limit how Devs can creatively put new spin in them IMO.

Instead of having Warframe fit its guns, I suggest this:

LET OUR GUNS FIT WARFRAME.

Make them never seen before. Make them unique.

But this is all merely my take on the topic! :D

About the crit thing:

I myself also feel this way. Putting it in an aiming game is.....I don't know.

Edit: Longbows-true longbows don't exist in warframe. We have the shortbows and hornbows mostyl, meant for middle to mildly close ranged combat.

I'd say Dread/Paris Prime is more along the lines of what a Sniper should be. I'm not sure how to convert those attributes into a useful Sniper, though.

Overwhelming damage and scaling (through slash)?

You bet we want 'em in snipers.

Hum, the tonkor reload time isn't so long.... 2 s...

I've just rank for the codex the sobrex, and 4s IS a long reaload time, not. 2s ^^

It's subjective; I myself can deal with it but in line of fire you can get killed with its tiny magazine as you need to reload so often.

Yeah, pretty much. I think being able to charge up shots the way you can with the bows is a good idea, too.

Well that's the Lanka.

>.<

Interesting idea, but I think we shouldn't invest in so many charge weps.....

But still interesting!

The point I'm making is that there is a time investment between shots with weapons like that. The principle of Snipers is that they deal a sudden, massive burst of damage rather than sustained damage over time.

You raise a fair point there.

Are you thinking Opticor like mechanic here?

We could vary it between snipers so not all are charge and not all are single shots.

No one need a Sniper Rifle for facing MULTIPLES opponents.

Sniper Rifles are selective weapons.

The have no purpose in this game, at best in NM Exterminate, but once you got all the NM Mods it is... Futile.

Mmmmm....correction.

Conventional Snipers have no place in this game.

Hence my suggestions of a new breed that specialises in team support as well as mass debuffs while quickly dispatching prey.

My quad-forma'd Snipetron Vandal and Lanka would LOVE for them to be more unique and usable than they already are.  I approve of them having something that we can add to them to make them y'know...NOT WORSE THAN BOWS!  (Seriously, it ticks me off that bows are better snipers than the snipers are in this game)

I really dont like charge mechanics on snipers because it messes with the fire rate, make it use the alt fire button.

Well your fire rate is safe. It's the alt fire that uses the charge, which is to stop you losing your zoom as alt fire button doesn't work :/
