  1. For me, it has been Hack & Slash since Closed Beta (only charge attacks were viable back in the days, until Damage 2.0).
My main melee playstyle has been fast-slide.

Killing 20 Manics of LVL135 with fast-slide melee playstyle: http://plays.tv/s/Kuqc864fQGA9

The best gun for my playstyle is Sonicor, which allows you to CC dangerous targets if necessary.

    Orthos Prime build:
    - Primed Pressure Point
    - Primed Reach
    - Blood Rush
    - Organ Shatter
    - Berserker
    - Maiming Strike
    - 2 elemtal / physical mods depending on factions you're facing.

Lately, I've been switching Organ Shatter with Primed Fury for that crazy fast-slide speed. The damage output is reduced, but it's much more fun for me.
I still switch back and forth between Primed Fury and Organ Shatter (or one of the elemental mods) depending on scenario.

  2. After 200 login days, I'm getting boosters like every other day.
    Usually credits and resource boosters.

Affinity boosters don't show up as often for me. Latest affinity booster I got were on:
    - July 23
    - June 25
    - May 29

    Basically, once a month.

(yes, I keep track of my dailies)

  3. Orthos Prime is a great meat blender, so I personally recommend building it around fast-slides.

    Demonstrations of fast-slide playstyles:

For Fast-Slide, this is the build I'd recommend:
    - Primed Pressure Point
    - Primed Reach
    - Blood Rush
    - Organ Shatter
    - Maiming Strike
    - Berserker
    - 2 elementals / physical mods depends on faction you're facing.

If you use them for Quick Melee and they have a low attack speed then they're "slow"

At least In My Opinion. And until those Berserker procs have a chance to boost that less than 1.00 attack speed they will remain so.

I tried to CYA that when I said " Especially when a weapon is Slow, you can get hit a lot before you get the chance to wind up that Berserker mod or get your Naramon in effect.  "

Melee weapons aren't always used for high Body Count stacked melee swings. Sometimes some people will also use their other weapons and then bust that melee out for some Close Quarters work. And that's when, again at least for me, that lower than 1.00 attack speed really feels slow.

    Cheers ~R~

With Maiming Strike, you can actually go invisible / trigger Berserker with one swing: http://plays.tv/s/Ktn-35OsQxgj

  5. By lag, do you mean FPS or latency?

If you're referring to FPS drops, it could be that your Laptop has 2 GPU's.
Usually, when you unplug, the laptop switches to the low-end GPU to increase the battery life.

Possible solutions: either disable the low-end GPU in the BIOS or change the battery state to high-performance.

I watch a video with a player whu used a Othos prime and a rhino and copttered everywhere. Looked pretty spiffy.

Something tells me you may be referring to my run.

    Spoiler

You can give this playstyle a shot. It could be a bit tricky at first.
Anyway, I recommend practicing this test a few times in the Relays with the different suggestions mentioned in this thread.

The moment you start doing a melee combo, you would never use first person again.

You can sometimes have a bug where you can play first person.
From my experience, first person worked amazingly well. Even parcouring was satisfying.

Other than the bug, the closest you can get to FP-mode is setting your FOV to the minimum and running with Loki with a black energy color.

  8. I'm surprised to hear you saying that DE won't help.
They always resolved these kind of issues for me and my friends.

Perhaps you didn't manage to explain them the whole situation correctly?

  9. Indeed, the main issue with balancing Melee is Parcour 2.0.
Skilled players could easily escape the melee-fighters, beginners, on the other hand, struggled against them.

As far as I remember, the melee has always been balanced around people that aren't too familiar with Parcour 2.0.
Perhaps we should think of balancing it around average and skilled players as well.

Anyone else tried to take the melee combat into the air?
It's pretty fun, but not exactly viable at the moment, since we only have two moves we can perform in the air. (slide and aerial attack).

A fleshed out aerial melee combat is something that would have been best implemented with Parcour 2.0.
I don't see that happening any time soon (if at all), so we should probably look for some alternatives.

    1. Mods that enhance aerial melee combat:
    - Aerial Reach: Increased melee reach when airborne.
    - Block Trap: (Channel) blocking while both players are airborne, will knockdown the opponent.
    - Aerial Magnetism: Just like the old Martial Magnetism, but only works when both players are in the air.
    - Counter Teleport: Channel blocking when both players are airborne, will teleport you behind the opponent. (uses 25 energy, also, can't be equipped with Block Trap)

    2. General passives on all frames
    - When airborne, players with melee equipped have an increased resistance.
    - Melee performed in the air has an increased damage (with melee equipped)
    - Melee needs priority in its moves. Allow block, jump and roll to cancel combo's.

Another approach is to give melee-oriented players the tools to take the combat to the ground (like the Block Trap suggested above).

I prefer this one for Frost:
It's the same guy that did some of the other Delux skins.

EDIT: And I wouldn't mind getting that weapon skin for Orthos.
