  1. All weapons are pure preference. DE has done a nice job of balancing....most of them. *Stares at Snipertron*

Generally for Infested I would grab the Scindo simply because of how likely you are to be swarmed, but with enough RoF on a Mire and decent enough damage you might be able to take out just as many guys as that Scindo could. It's less about the weapon being amazing and more about how you mod it tbh >-.

  2. i like the effort you put into this post! but it might be too similar to rhino.

also the armor might need to be higher, or the healths, shields, shield recharge needs to be increased...after all, you did say the Rook was the big daddy T compared to the rhino

the kill everybody ult may not be too bad of a thing...because many warframes already have an ult like that

    Tis one of the main reasons I did Fortress the way I did. I knew as soon as I gave a tank that had a range movement skill an invul skill as well, he'd get cried at as being a Rhino clone e.e Tried to shy away from it. To the health/shield/whatever bit, like I said I'm open to suggestions. Same for the ulti thing. It was just something I wanted to shy away from simply because literally every friggin frame has one of those ._.;

Well, it's gonna be hell to move that slow and have no energy while leveling up to actually unlock his skills

Meh, it's again one of those things where I tried to keep him as close to being balanced as possible and probably ended up nerfing him in the process. I'm open to suggestions and whatnot on things that could probably improve it, seeing as how I'm fairly certain that he'd be bottom tier atm on the power scale simply from how far away I was trying to stay away from OP e.e

EDIT: Added a bit more stuffs to it from where I was speed reading.

EDIT again! Haha!: Orly? I wasn't really basing off any stats I was looking at at the time ._.; But yeah, I'll look into it. If nothing else I'll drop in ~25 extra Power and throw some extra tankiness in there.

EDIT to that last edit: Ermm...I'm checking right now and not seeing the last 150 stat. Unless you're referring to their pretty decent shield regen? Both keep Shields and Armor at 150. Rest of it is 100s (with the exception of the 22.5 Shield Recharges and their sprint speeds).

  3. *Points at the fact that it's got 3 stats that are 150*

I figured it'd balance things out. Again like I said, wasn't trying to make it too terribly OP. Plus now that passives are back we get Power on level-ups so he'd be able to use them after a bit. As I said in the end-post, I think I was so concerned about making sure that he wouldn't be considered OP that I ended up nerfing him e.e

  4. Its not like you guys already have a shield isnt it.... Warframes arent little noobs who try to take not a single hit. Its a run and gun game, not who can avoid the most bullets with a shield.....

I'm sorry. I forgot this was the part of the forum's where we all succumed to your point of view and didn't offer any insight to alternative playstyles. How terribly rude of me.

  5. So here we go guys. What with a tankish support guy being suggested and my suggestion to turn his head into a rook battlement gone awry, I figured I'd do a chess-inspired tank guy. Why you ask? Because I CAN THAT'S WHY D;

So yeah. I'll also be using my craptastic template that needs to get a major overhaul as soon as I get better software to do it with (ala my home computer) just to show it off.

A few notes before we get started here:

    • Rook is the name for the frame. All the abilities are named after chess terminology. Why? Cuz I'm fairly confident there's a connection between Rook and chess. Not 100% on that though.
    • A frame picture along with ability pictures will hopefully be coming soon. If not, then I'm more than willing to sub out and let one of my peons...I mean, fellow enthusiasts try their hand at it.
    • There'll be another list after the gigantic picture template thing that lists the exact details of skills and whatnot.
    • You should probably start scrolling down and actually read over stuff now. This is the end of the starter notes.

    t5pywgz.png

    Ability stuffs!!!

    .:Absolute Pin:.

    • So here's how this works.
    • Imagine Rhino Charge with double damage.
    • Now imagine that any enemy you run into is essentially a brick wall that stops the charge.
    • If there's nothing to stop you, then I'd imagine the range to be equivalent to 3/4 of the same rank of Rhino Charge.
    • Ranking should probably just be the standard "Damage+Range" stuff we're used to by now.
    • Absolute Pin is a chess term used to describe when you move a piece in such a way that the "pinned" piece cannot move as it would expose the King to check.

    .:Castling:.

    • This thing again? You bet.
    • It's essentially the rough equivalent to a Mag Pull that pulls the ally behind you.
    • Rook then gains a % of his shields recovered.
    • Ranking increases the % of shields recovered as well as the range of the pull.
    • Castling is a chess term used to describe when you move the King and Rook to better protect the King while also developing the Rook.

    .:Fortress:.

    • You should've gotten the gist of this by now, so let's get right into things.
    • Rook is rooted in place for the duration of this skill. Think of it like being hit by a Nauseous Crawler's....mouth stuff.
    • He takes -% damage while this ability is active. As much as I'd like to, I felt that giving him an essential clone of Iron Skin would get cried at as being OP.
    • The % damage he takes decreases as the ability ranks up (meaning he won't get hurt as much for those of you non-reading folks) and the duration increases (meaning it like...lasts longer).
    • Fortress is a chess term used when you're losing. It generally means "If I can get this guy here, then I can stop that guy from breaking through and hopefully draw out the game".

    .:Lucena Position:.

    • What this skill does is essentially mark an ally for Rook to assist. The targeting can work similar to say....Link, Well of Healing, stuffs like that.
    • When the selected target is damage, Rook rushes and barrels into the enemy that hit them (probably doing the "airtime stasis+ knockdown" thing. Maybe some damage).
    • Obviously there are restrictions against bosses and whatnot. Can't just have him rushing up to every boss and knocking them about. It'd probably do the same stagger effect that Grineer bosses generally take from certain skills/weapons, and probably nothing against Infested/Corpus bosses. Cuz they're jerks like that.
    • I really wanted to refrain from doing the "LOL KILL ERRYBODY" Ulti here, hence why I chose this. If someone suggests something better and can bring a chess theme to it, I'm more than happy to change it around.
    • Ranking would probably increase duration (stasis time), damage (from the charge part), and effective range (meaning that the target ally can get further away without the skill cancelling out).
    • Lucena Position is a position in chess where a player with a rook and an extra pawn can generally force the win.

So yeah. There's my guy and stuffs. All the information is there and whatnot. I kind of feel that I made him a bit UP simply because I was so worried that he'd be overpowered in the design concept of things e.e But yeah, changes can be made still and stuffs.

If anyone has any feedback/comments/criticisms/YOU SUCK DEUCs to throw around, this thread'll be here for that. If not, it'll probably sink into oblivion with the rest of the dead threads.

  6. True, but it would be cool that we can boot them out.

I just got that horrible scene from 300 stuck in my head. "THIS IS SPAAAACCEEEE!" *Kick*

Also I never noticed it do any damage, though that may because I generally run with squishier people who don't appreciate a constant DoT e.e

And to the whole thing about throwing Grinders back at the Grineer.....that'd give them a good reason to bring the Nervos back >:)

  7. last post for the night, about how lifting a shield, just look at the riot shield man that we fight he has to hold only the shield, keep in mind this is the future if you think shield tech will adv while guns stay the same your wrong everything is elevation, a riot shield now would be paper to the guns they have in this world and realistically no mater how heavy it is it is still huge and hard to work with sorry but holding a shield no mater how much you want it to work, will not work, energy shields are far more practical and diffidently fit the theme much better

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but you don't "shred" through his shield. In fact quite the opposite. Generally speaking you've got to either shoot over the shield or move around it (or be cheap and use Puncture). The Grineer are also the closest this game has to "humans", from what we know. We don't know much about the Tenno, but considering the fact their Warframes can survive explosions, multiple gunshots, and all other sorts of harm then we can expect that the Warframes have a strength higher than that of a Grineer. So therefore it's not improbable to think that while that Shield Lancer is slowed to a crawl and can barely move, a Warframe could walk around with that thing like he had a dinner plate attached to his arm (which for balancing sake he wouldn't, just using a hyperbole to prove the point). My point is that if a Grineer, the closest thing to a human, can do it with relative success, then there's nothing from stopping your badass space ninja/samurai from doing the same exact thing but with greater effect.

I think it'd be better to have the shield as a type of energy barrier. now I'm gonna suggest something pretty horrible: Completely rip the Mass Effect idea of the Paladin Sentinel's omni-shield: DuG65sM.jpg the shield would be a melee weapon and would, when not activated, simply be an attachment to your characters wrist, but when deployed would look similar (possibly bigger) to the one in the picture. the shield would be strong and impervious to knockdown effects, yet it would have a breaking point of say, 5,000 cumulative damage points. Perhaps you could have the ability to walk slowly with the shield out and have your sidearm out and be able to fire it with considerable reduced accuracy.

    Sounds dangerously close to my shield energy suggestion earlier. Just from a different source D;

I do agree that an energy shield wouldn't need to be active at all times as opposed to an actual metallic shield, but I'd up the ante further and restrict you to melee while using it. That is if they were to follow my example and simply do the "Shield+ whatever" melee combo. You could alternatively create the shield as a primary weapon, but then you'd have to add some form of attack feature to it. Maybe shields with miniscule ammo capacity machine guns in them ala Gundam?

  8. i like this idea. i would also like to include throwing your teammates at enemies when out of ammo

People already cry enough when I use Switch Teleport as Loki without telling them, even on the rare occassion that I'm not doing it to troll (which I do oh so often as him). Giving me a system where I could just grab the nearest Volt and chuck him into a horde of oncoming enemies is just begging for rage.

As far as OP is concerned, the one thing I'd like is for hull breaches to actually damage enemies. I think it'd be pretty fun to shoot out the windows on a ship then just Iron Skin til everyone/thing was dead except for me.

  9. It'd probably help turn this into a better number crunch if we had an established range. As we all know, Hek's cone is so small that it's as accurate as more friggin Assault Rifles. Bronco on the other hand tends to act in true shotgun fashion where the spread is a lot wider.

Establishing a range means we can attempt to calculate roughly how many pellets would land each shot, and better establish a dominance.

  10. yes and no, realistically speaking that is the only way you could carry a riot shield because you are right this isent call of duty you cant just put it on your back and take out your other guns and start shooting i brought that up to show what it would be like if you had an actual shield

how ever an energy shield can be an attachment on an arm that could be activated and wouldent have the problems of being heavy and hard to carry like a riot shield

Yes, because realistically we have exosuits that cannot lift a shield whilst doing combat at the same time -.- You're applying normal human limitations to a foreign race in a suit that's the rough equivalent of an Iron Man suit.

The problem being that it would probably have to either replace a weapon or be a skill on a new Warframe. They would have to make a whole new system otherwise.

Not entirely. As I've said the only thing that's different is the hitbox of the shield compared to a regular weapon. Seeing as how each weapon is coded with it's own hitbox (hence why we have range), if it were to be added as a weapon choice then it wouldn't be all that bad. Simply add it as a combo: Shield and Skana, Shield and Zoren, Shield and Mini-Fragor (<3) and whatnot. You then have the dual block animation which places BOTH weapons in front of you (meaning the shield's hitbox would be better used here) whilst still holding the integrity of the weapon. The downside? Make it have an extremely low RoF or something. As I said as long as you can properly balance it, it's not some "OMG THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO" kind of thing.

  11. I'm not sure if they changed it or not, but Rhino and Frost used to add +50 to any melee weapon they had. If that still holds, then Rhino and Frost are the only true melee combatants imho. If not then it comes down to if you just want to rush in and wreck everything while being totally invulnerable or if you want to prance around being invisible slashing to and fro. I personally go for the "Iron Skin and Fragor errythang" combo, but that's just because stealth is overrated. Why tiptoe around when I can bash a guy's head in with a radiator on a stick?

  12. I am fascinated by the mystery behind particular sub-forum choices to ask certain questions.

Cuz why bother actually reading through the topics or even the forum guidelines to figure out where you're actually supposed to post something when you can just slap it in anywhere with total impunity? Now if we were to start doing warning posts and whatnot for posting in the wrong section then...hehehehe

  13. Meh, figured I'd at least give them something easy to use. Mine involves more detail than I'd care to digitally do so I'm coercing/begging a buddy to do it for me. Partly because I'm at work atm, and another part because I'm lazy atm.

Updated the new Template to include enough of an area for in-game descriptions and whatnot.

  14. I'm all about making things look good....and Fragor of course. So I've been looking through the Warframe suggestions and I notice one thing: they're all in text only. Now don't get me wrong, they're still very good at what it is that they're meant to do. But being that we have such a great source in the wiki for it, I decided to mock up a template that you all could use for your Warframes.

    GitfHAB.png

So here ya go folks. It's just as simple as opening it in Paint, Photoshop, whatever it is you use and go from there. Just figured it'd help out a bit for those interested. If you're not, then you're more than welcome to continue working on your texts.

    As a quick side note, I couldn't quite get an area large enough to post in-game text and whatnot without messing up the entirety of the design. Hence why that's such a small area. Polarity is an easy fix that I'll probably get to and upload later when I'm not at work ._.;

    Edit: Tis fixed.

  15. I'd keep it as is. It's not an attack so it doesn't need to be as high as say Rhino Charge or Slash Dash, but the cost needs to be high enough to where it's not just spammed as a mode of movement. Dropping it to 5 means all I'd have to do would be run in a squad with Energy Siphons and I'd be able to spam it the entire map, tricking enemies into dupe attacking and opening themselves up along the way.

As far as the abilities go, I'm a fan. I'd probably do a cap on the duration of the abilities just to keep things even (i.e Adrenaline probably shouldn't go much above 8-10 seconds) though. Also as far as Riposte on boss types, you could still have it deal damage but add a flinch effect (ala Boltor, Bolto, AkBolto, etc) into it so that the boss can't just turn right back around and smack you across the room.

  16. It again depends. In your example, you shed your shields to gain massive boosts of speed. The problem with this lies in the fact that I can just slap a Sentinel with maxed Guardian on, and run around the entire time in Speed mode with little to no consequence.

  17. For one, Riposte is gonna need rework. "Instantly kills whatever got countered" to me translates as "Walk up and let the boss try to smack you once to win". You have to add effectiveness costs in, or people just scream OP.

The other thing is I'd probably keep the target max at 10 on his ulti. To compensate have the "Knockdown" add a stasis time as well similar to Rhino's Rhino Stomp. To kind of give an idea of what I'm saying: In it's current state, you just knock the guy straight down pretty much. In the case I'm presenting, you lift him into the air with the strike. It gives him a stasis time plus the knockdown. The main reason I say this is that Blade Storm is bugged to hell and back. There are cases of people being jerked into floors, ceilings, walls...you name it. To go above Blade Storm's target max is just begging to get bugged out imho.

Other than that, I like the idea. It kind of reminds me of a flash tank.

  18. Your philosophy as a Rhino is this: "Regardless of what happens here, I'm gonna live. The question of whether or not the rest of you do solely depends on if you stay behind me and let me do my job as the tank". Rhino doesn't need speed. If his party rushes on ahead, too bad for them. At the end of the mission that Rhino is still going to be standing. There's a reason tanks are slow: they're armored. Having someone who can switch between the survivability of a Rhino and the speed of a Loki is pretty OP imho, simply because there's no trade-off for him.

  19. I believe Frost and Rhino add a +50 modifier to their melee weapons, unless this was changed in a hotfix or something. So if you're planning on meleeing everything, Frost would probably be the better choice. If I'm incorrect in my modifier, then it's preference.

Crit damage and chance aren't useless on Fang. It's merely your choice of how to build them. I find that Fang can be turned into quite the little critter (see what I did there) if you mod it correctly. The base speed and Armor Ignore help a ton to do this.
