    "The Person in the Wall"

"The Sentient Void Energy in the Wall"

And, as an important note, those are not really catchy, aren't they? Although more correct.

Actually, I suspect it's probably that last one.

Due to the way the English language has shaken out, we have the words "man", "person", and "woman". Our brains (human brains in general) like syllabic patterning and repetition. However, we ended up with one short, snappy word to refer to a person (man) and two two-syllable words (the other two). "The Man in the Wall" contains all one-syllable words and the 'big important words' (Man and Wall) in it both fall back on the "A" family of sounds. So, in general, it will usually sound better than "person in the wall" or "presence in the wall" or whatever.

As someone who likes playing little linguistic tricks like this with writing, let me tell you I have really come to find this annoying. WTB a 1-syllable word for people that doesn't have gendered connotations in the current environment, 50P or PM me with offer.

...Regarding the frame, though, I actually find this topic kinda interesting? Because it gets into how Warframes are made and viewed by people like the Orokin and how they're created. I don't really have much to add to it at the moment, but it's been interesting to see the philosophical points be muddled through. If pressed, I'd have to say that my gut guess it'd be he? Just because Protea's next and she's a she. I don't think that's a really good answer based on the lore or anything, though.

I do have to echo @MagPrime, though,  in their sentiments to can we please not on the whole bi-gendered thing? As someone pointed out Warframes are more devices than people, gendered due to their origins or their aesthetic qualities/chassis. It'd be sort of like claiming that you made a bigendered car or robot. The other reason is that... Well... Frankly... Adding an aspect of someone's character as one of their defining features is never a good way boost representation for anything. No one aspect of a character - especially in the case of a functional non-character such as a warframe - should ever be the defining feature of an individual. It just tends to caricaturize things. I don't think the characters or story style in WF is such that it's got a lot of room to quietly weave in anything like that, to begin with, much less try and slam it in there.

Edit: Fixed the spelling on 'caricaturize'.

  2. The two missions on Saturn that I've found to be at or near 100% (I've always gotten a spawn, but there's a chance that's just random luck,) are Cassini and Calypso (Capture & Sabotage). Cassini's the popular one. Generally, the best technique - as @Cephalon_Naiture suggested - is to go through and clear things room by room and then, once the flash happens, attempt to kill as many as you can as quickly as you can. Spawning the Larvaling is based on getting a certain amount of kills (running solo, it seems to be between around 7 and 15) within a short period of time (maybe 20-30 seconds? My sense of time is bad). Do that, and the larvaling spawns.

I've also had a luck of luck in nightmare mode (it's only high enough level in nightmare mode,) Pallas, Ker, and Lex on Ceres. If you're having a problem finding a larvaling, another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes - I'm not sure if it's a bug or not - but sometimes have an assassin or hit squad coming after you in the mission seems to block lavaling spawns that run.

    Best of luck, mate!

  3. As far as I know, this is, sadly, purely random RNG. Although now they made it so you can see what weapon a Lich will have before you Parazon-stab a larvling so... Good luck with the rolls, I guess? I'm still missing the Kraken, myself.

  4. Once more back into the motley, reinvigorated by the last devstream (thank you!) 🙂 In the hopes of getting some things more noticed than others, I've since started diving this up into categories.

Important Questions: Questions Important to me as a Warframe Player. If you have to answer only one of my questions, make it one from here!

    • Is there any chance we'll see Warframe Revisions become a regular part of sustaining Warframe as a living game? I don't imagine they'd be all the time, but perhaps once every 1-2 years or so?
    • Are there any thoughts or consideration for finding a way to communicate regularly that doesn't involve twitter? I don't - and will never - have twitter, for instance, and it's not very visible to a lot of people. A more accessible information stream (even if it's just one way) would be appreciate
    • Increasingly, we are seeing more and more enemies ignoring warframe abilities in permanent, non-intractable ways (IE: Nullifiers don't count, you can pop the bubble). This is making control-based and caster-based frames less viable in certain content types. Is this style of enemy design going to become a staple of future Warframe content?
    • Increasingly, we are seeing more and more enemies ignoring status effects from weapons. This is making status-based weapons increasingly non-viable and critical-based weapons dis proportionally important. Is this style of enemy design going to become a staple of future Warframe content?
    • I can understand the push to avoid steamrolling of content by tankier frames and crit-based weapons, but have you considered designing specific enemies or scenarios to defeat those as opposed to the general increase in numbers that is starting to edge warframes that were already designed to have high risk/reward gameplay under less threatening scenarios?
    • Is there any plans in the future to add in enemies with different sorts of engagement patterns or fighting methods? The various hordes are nice and while I wouldn't want to do completely without them, increasingly I've found the Nox is one of my favourite things to fight because it works differently.
      • Don't think I didn't notice the Elite-Shield people. 🙂 Still want to know if this is going to be something with more upcoming or if that was just a nice random surprise.
    • So, as someone who plays a lot to non-DPS centric frames, is there any chance that we could have a mechanism by which things like control of enemies or healing/support of allies is tracked under the mission statistics? It would go some ways to helping those activities not feel so overlooked and generally make one feel like their impact as a non-DPS is more noticeable.
    • You guys at [DE] seem like you have very clear notions of what frames are, or, at least, what you want them to do. (I'm going somewhere with this). This makes critiquing or examining if they're functioning well slightly problematic (at least for me) because I feel like I don't know on what criteria I'm supposed to judge them. Is there any chance that you'd be willing to comment on what a Warframe's design goals are when seeking feedback (Ala the Vauban/Ember Rework) or just in general? (IE: Frame Y is meant to do X, especially with concerns to W.)
    • With Pets 3.0 on the horizon, can you please confirm whether or not we will be able to hot-swap Kavats and Kubrows the way we can hot-swap Sentinels and Moas? That is, effectively, have more than one 'active' pet in our loadouts/inventories. I'm not concerned about them being around the ship, but genuinely this is the only feature I've wanted concerning pets since I first got my second pet.
    • Railjack was advertised as way of starting to 'lift up all the various islands', to begin to interconnect them. However, as it is currently it uses almost entirely isolated resources, mechanics, and is remote from the rest of Warframe. I appreciate that in a game like Warframe, things take a lot of time. What's Railjack's next big step towards beginning to unify the way you play the game?
    • How much of a 'first step' is the current Kuva Lich system? I like it - it's my favourite thing in the game - but I'm curious how much the progression and way one moves through it (run missions -> farm thralls -> Kill Lich) is the way it was designed to be and if it's not what sort of changes want to be made and what we can look forward to.

General Questions: Questions I'd like answers to, but not very pressing.

    • Can we get options to toggle prime decorations for the Immortal skins? I can appreciate them not being reasonable to do for the Deluxe Skins.
    • So, looking at the innate bonuses for the Kuva Lich weapons, the bonuses so far are all elemental damage. As I've come to understand the system more, that sort of makes sense, but is there any plans down the road to make them vary with more interesting things? (Reload Speed, Accuracy, Innate Multishot, etc) or maybe other random effects, not unlike how the Kuva Seer has an explosion burst with its projectiles. Or is this the sort of thing that would upset the meta-lords too much or stray too far from the intended effects of the bonus?
    • So, for people who are interested in changing their names, there's this... Huge problem. It costs Platinum (this is not the issue), which means that it's expensive to do it repeatedly. This leads to the actual huge problem: There's no way to actually check if the name you want is taken or not without buying it! Is there any way you could let someone check to see if a name is available before committing?
    • So, Zypher Deluxe has been in the works since before I started playing regularly. This Tennocon we saw some work had been done on her. Compared to a lot of Deluxe skins she's relatively straightforward looking (at least, from the images I saw). Is there any chance on some sort of general ETA when we might be able to expect her?
    • Is there any way we can get an option bind a function to multiple simultaneous buttons? IE: Alternative Fire being bound to {Shift + Mouse 1} Instead of {Mouse 3}
    • You talked about how the Nemesis system is going to be slowly rolling out through the factions. Obviously, you'll have Grineer, and then Corpus. But does this mean we'll also see Infested Nemesis? Corrupted? Sentient, maybe, even?

Idle Questions: Questions I have an interest in, but that I don't think will make a lot of difference to me if they aren't answered anytime soon.

    • Here's an odd one: Killing Kuva Liches comes with an invocation and the Requiem Mods. So tasty so far. But there are - I realize we're probably rare - a few of us out there that like to hear our starchild speak. Is there any chance down the road those of us who woke up to dream again could hear them chant the invocation if we've got their speech enabled?
    • So this is sort of a minor, more personal quibble. I've been playing Warframe a bit, and one of the things I've really started to see or feel of late is that a lot of the frames tend to feel the same shape-wise. They might have a bunch of different doodads attached to them, but their figures are generally either 'generically fit guy' or 'generically curvy girl'. Lately there's been a lot of movement to get away from that - the body shapes of four of the last five Warframes (Baruuk, Hyldrin, Gauss, and now Grendel,) have been a breath of fresh air, figure-silhouette wise - and I both wanted to say thank you and encourage that, and ask if that would start applying/getting more of a look in where Deluxe Skins are concerned as well, as a lot of them just feel like 'big, beefy dude' or 'curvy woman in high heels'. Although, now that I've seen the Gara Deluxe, I'm guessing not.
    • So, a question I've wanted to ask for a long time: to my understanding, the Gas City Rework was just supposed to be Alad V's thing, on Jupiter. Why did the Gas Cities on other planets also get replaced? It feels weird and out of place lore-wise, and it means that we lost an interesting difference that could have existed in tilesets. (Don't get me wrong, the new Gas City is lovely, just confused)
    • Possibly I just missed it, and I don't mean to accidentally pour oil, but what was the ultimate resolution of the entire chat moderate mess? I know that an outside company was being hired to look into chat moderating, but beyond that I never saw anything.
    • Are we going to get a Torid mod to let it do whatever the heck it is that the Zealot's Torid does from NW Season 2? Please?

As always, I appreciate all the work and effort of the team.While.I can't speak for everyone, for myself I found Devstream #139 my favourite DevStream so far, and hands down one of the most enjoyable and exciting things I've seen come out of a Devstream in a while. I love the expansion of content, but the refinement and polishing of Warframe's core systems is something (I'd hope) everyone can get behind. I still haven't forgotten the shout-out on one of the previous Devstreams, and while I deeply appreciate it, I do hope that if it happens again it will be regarding one of my more mechanically-focused or design-speculative questions. 🙂

See you on the rails sometime.

    As a Host

When i picked up the 1st key, i heard a self destruct noise as if a demolyst was about to commit suicide, looked around, saw nothing.
After inserting the key, nothing happens and the game halts the spawns eventually.

I assume a demolyst never spawns in the game because in the code he already commited suicide

Same thing happens when in solo mode on the first tower, when the key's slotted in. After the third attempted, I've stopped trying. Ah, well. I suppose I'll check in later.

  6. All these are very solid ways to make platinum. Additionally, while it's not a LOT of platinum (especially not anymore), as a new player, you have access to Ayatan Sculptures. You can get one a week from Maroo, and then you can pick up odd ones in missions. If you fully slot them, you can sell them for between 4-10 Platinum (depending on type) each, on a good day. They're not something you can do very actively, but when I was a new player, that slow trickle kept me in weapon and frame slots until I was able to start getting access to better ways to make things and started learning how to collect and sell prime sets.

  7. Finally, finally back to this, My apologies for it taking so long.

I both my friend and I have different work/sleep schedules, so synching up is sometimes an issue; and then I was sick enough that playing Warframe was a challenge for a bit, and THEN Plague Star came out and dat Forma called to us. And THEN I got assigned a bunch of new projects at work...

But we've finally started playing around with this whole thing again. You know, before Baro showed up with Prime-#*!%ing-Chamber and suddenly the farm began. But, here are the basic notes and the answer to a few questions that got asked at me, in no particular order:

    Two from @(PS4)Pumba_Beneator

Rubico riven disposition has been going down steadily down to one now, I have to empty a full clip plus some more bullets to get one limb (granted, I miss quite a lot...). Wasn't the case before. This is Trinity so no damage buff (solo), but still... In the list of other candidate weapons that were put up there, did you guys actually try any ? What are your thoughts ? I hear the Chakkhur is good.

So, we've tried a lot of weapons at this point. I never had a Rubico riven, but I had a Euphona Prime one, so I used a Rubico and that. They do have a Rubico riven, but they struggle a bit with damage due to only having around 3-ish Forma on their Rubico. I... Am not a perticular fan of the Rubico. I'll talk a bit about the current setup we're using a bit later, but I'm currently working with the Vectis. The Chakkhur... Honestly, I did not have a Chakkhur until earlier this week. That one has been very elusive for me. But having used it, I can see why it'd be good? But, like most Grineer weapons, it handles (not the aim, the aim is fine. Like the whole reload/fire rate thing/Mag size things,) kinda clunkily. I haven't invested in it, though, but I could easily see it as being super viable.

To answer the other questions, candidate weapons we've tried and (very) brief reviews on them: (Quoted from @taiiat) :

    • all of the Sniper Rifles, obviously.
      • This so far as been my favorite category. I've always liked sniper rifles (I run them in normal missions with some frames, if you can believe). Regarding individual ones:
        • Rubico: It's mostly the high crit multipler that makes this a standout, I think.
        • Vectis: Slightly weaker, but I think it works better for me due to how it functions. More on this later.
        • Komorex: No. It's great, it's powerful, but I couldn't figure out how to leverage that against Eidolons given how much the status and explosions are part of its power.
        • Lanka: My GODS do I hate this weapon. It's a good weapon, and I actually have a riven for it. But the way it handles is just so anathematic to my preferences. If you can deal with that, I think it's a very solid choice, though.
        • Snipetron Vandal: It's... Fine? Didn't standout much to me, and I hate its scope graphics, so I gave it a miss.
        • Vulkar Wraith: Almost went with this one. I have a riven for it, it's got some unique mods, and with a riven the shots are really solid. Worth considering if you're investing in it anyways, don't know if I'd recommend outside of that.
    • Paris Prime
      • I'm not... Amazing with bows? But I can see why the PP is up here. It's got great crit rate, does very 'spikey' damage, and with a riven is a pretty good contender. I feel like what's holding it back is my own slightly lackluster skill with the weapon type.
    • Kuva Chakkhurr
      • See above. Less a scoped sniper and more of a DMR, like the Grinlok. Feels like it could be rediculous with some investment, though. The lack of having to scope it feels really useful here but that reload is bigger than Christopher Boykin (MHRIP)..
    • Ferrox
      • Spearguns are... Weird. I struggle to use this weapon a bit, but that feels like practice. I think this is a little more 'spam-y' than the snipers, which might mess with Void Strike a bit, but more testing would be needed.
    • Attica
      • You'd think the Zhuge Prime would be on here, too. But I discovered why. So much of it comes from radial damage. The Attica doesn't. Again, it's a more 'spammy' choice, but I have actually considered going back to this before.
    • Prisma Grinlok
      • This is another top contender for me. If the Vectis doesn't perform the way I want it to, this one is going to be next. It's a glorious DRM that I want to use more anyway, so that doesn't hurt.
    • Buzlok
      • So... Again, this is spammy, but I think viable.
    • Euphona Prime
      • I actually used this for a long time and may go back to it. I tend to run out of ammo doing Eidolons spams, I have a riven for it, and having a secondary that can slam down an Eidolon is always good. If you want to try something a bit unusual, it's a nice one.
    • Ballistica Prime
      • I... Again, this is one of those weapons that I'm not especially good at handling. I could totally see how it could do it, but my own awkwardness with it makes it not really a good candidate for me until I commit to learning the weapon. I recently started using the Rakta Ballistica with my Ivara loadout, so maybe, who knows.
    • Knell
      • This one... Is kinda rough. I can see how it could totally work, but my issue is that it's clearly going to take a decent amount of forma investment to get that reload low enough for this to work out. So I gave it a pass.
    • Catchmoon (sorta)
      • I can totally see why this could work. I legit have considered running a test with Equinox or Wukong with this thing.I tried it without, and while it's sorta fine, that lack of range REALLY hurts it.
    • Vaykor Hek (sorta)
      • I didn't even try, honestly. The Hek series and me have never gotten along. I get how it's supposed to work, but no. I'll wait until I actually figure out a way to enjoy the weapon before trying it out there.
    • Corinth(sorta)
      • Another one I didn't test, mostly because I use the Corinth in another loadout, and I can already see a lot of the issues with trying to turn that thing against eidolons. It's doable, I think, but I don't want to try and climb that mountain.
    • Tombfinger:
      • I tried this. I have a Tombfinger and a Tombfigner riven. But the way my Tombfinger is built is NOT ideal for Eidolon hunting, especially not practicing with two-men for how it usually plays out for us. If you have one that is high-crit, high-magazine size, I might give that a go. Mine has a magazine size of something like 5 or 7. It reloads really fast, but the fact that I have to pause for about 1-2 seconds to let it reload means it controls in ways that can cause problems with knockdown. Hrm. Might need to try it without that Arcane.
    On 2020-01-18 at 5:30 AM, (PS4)Pumba_Beneator said:

I'd like to try something new 🙂  Have you guys tried Limbo ? I've tried Volt, the damage output is just excellent, but I loose lures in the Gantu and Hydro phases. I've tried Vazarin to heal them (void dash), Unairu for the damage reduction (void mode) and the wisp (hard to use I think), but not quite convinced they're easy enough to substitute from Trinity blessing. Well - have you guys tried something fun different than the meta, but still reasonnably efficient ?

So, if you haven't already, we've mucked around with Limbo. He was actually in our earliest things. The banish CAN keep the lures protected, but the bubble is not an ideal solution. It's doable, but Limbo himself is a very awkward puppy in the fight (SO squishy. SO MUCH squishy). His void also doesn't seem to be 100% safe from all the Eidolons attacks, so it makes things more dicey. But, if you can handle him, he might work out. Vazarin can manage it without the need for Trinity, if you have it maxed, but that's a very spammy, very active and alert method of doing it. It's super intensive, but can be done.

We've tried a number of other frames, actually. Excalibur Umbra, Wukong, Ivara, Rhino, Mag, Nyx, Mesa... I want to say a few more, but I don't remember. I can sort of understand why the meta is what it is, but here's a number of things discovered from those frames that actually serve a useful purpose in those fights, and what we've discovered. Please keep in mind that these were done over a number of different patches, so whether or not these things still actively function may be up in the air:

    • Excalibur Umbra:
      • Umbra here has the interesting ability to run around while you're in operator form. This seems utterly pointless, until we discovered that Umbra WILL target the vomvalysts "rushing to the Eidolon's aid". He's a bit random in how he approaches it, but he totally will, and that can actually be kinda useful, as he can knock them into their wisp form and then you can hose them down with your amp. My friend ran like this for a number of runs.
    • Wukong:
      • Similar to Umbra, the Wuclone can help out with Volvalyst clearing. UNLIKE Umbra, if you eschew a melee weapon he'll also be able to fire on the Eidolon and do some damage to it as well. Actually something we're considering playing around with more. His cloud walker disorientate thing also can briefly disrupt incoming vomvalysts, so that's handy. I wouldn't rank him as top tier, exactly, but Wukong might actually be able have a place in this whole circus, even mainstream. This is mostly theory, as we've only done one or two of the runs with the monkey king, but it's an interesting thought.
    • Ivara:
      • I think everyone knows about the dashwire thing. It's... Handy, but can be super awkward and requires both a decent amount of coordination and environmental luck. No, we tried Ivara to see if we could stealth-kill an Eidolon. (we tried the dashwire thing, too, admittedly). Turns out you... Kinda can? They'll fire at your starchildren, obviously, but their attacks will be super random and not really aimed at you when it's time to damage them. However, the volume of stray fire can make this... Problematic.
    • Rhino:
      • One word: Roar. I don't like Rhino, but that can seriously amp up your damage in the normal-damage phases if you're built for it.
    • Mag:
      • So, we tried this one for a number of reasons. Sadly, it mostly doesn't work, but she actually kinda CAN replace Trinity/Oberon as healer, if she has a decent pulse to restore the lures' shields. It's a bit rough, though.
    • Nyx:
      • Why Nyx? Becaues I'm a Nyx main. And because armour reduction. This does not work on the EIdolon, we discovered. However, the Psychic Bolts augment WILL stun the crap out of the Vomvalysts. While I don't know that she has a place in 2-manning things, I could easily see her as Vomvalyst-deterrent with Chaos Sphere and... Confusion Bolts, I think it's called? In a 3-4 man. She's surprisingly good at it.
    • Mesa:
      • Mesa's like a more aggressive Nyx, by and large. Her Peacemakers can help her fry the Vomvalysts. There are some issues she has that Nyx doesn't, though: namely it's hard for her to aim through the Eidolon. It sort of acts like a giant shield wall for its smaller brethren.

    Hope those insights help!

So, with all these answers and advice, how've we been doing? We're almost down to under 20 minutes for the first two Eidolons, and almost always (unless we're just WAY off our game) get them under 25 minutes. We can't... Quite deal with Hydrolyst yet. So we're working to try and perfect our first two, to get them to 15 minutes or under, and then we're going after that last one. But we feel like we can do it, now!

What we've been doing lately/What we're currently working on now:

Currently, the setups we're using are as follows.

    Myself:

    • Amp:
      • Klamora Prism
      • Certus Brace
      • Shraksun Scaffold
    • Frame:
      • Trinity Prime
    • Primary:
      • Vectis Prime
    • Secondary:
      • Gaze-based Kitgun
    • Melee:
      • Zaw Staff
    • Companion:
      • Djinn

    My friend:

    • Amp:
      • Shwaak Prism
      • ???? Brace (Don't remember)
      • ???? Scaffold (Don't remember)
    • Frame:
      • Volt Prime
    • Primary:
      • Rubico Prime
    • Secondary:
      • ???? (Don't remember)
    • Melee:
      • Wolf Hammer
    • Companion:
      • Djinn

So, we're using Djinn mostly because it's easy to deal with. I need to mess around with the shade thing, though. We're still playing around with it, but the biggest issue we've found so far is all the knockdown/knockback. I'm running Trinity to deal with the Lure Damage, and they're using Volt because Volt Shield. My amp was designed to be able to quickly shred the Eidolon (which it does pretty well) and also to have an option to just hose down Vomvalysts, and it functions fine in both roles. My friends is primarily designed to mess up Vomvalyst add-ons and be able to add damage to the Eidolon's shields to back me up, although they're considering changing theirs up a bit. They're waiting until they're further along with Vox Solaris first, though.

I'm using the Vectis Prime to address one of the biggest issues I found during Eidolon hunting: Reloading.

This might change with higher levels of Void Stalker (I'm still only rank 2, I only just recently started investing in Madurai seriously, it was this thread that got me to) but as it stands right now, in the final damage-spam phase, I find myself running out of a mag within like 10-20% of an Eidolon's health left. This is a problem, as it can leave them wide open to be boosted by a Vomvalyst as I sit there reloading. WHEN I can reload. Even with Handspring (I don't have primed yet) the amount of stumble effects the Eidolons can have is biblical. So, I'm working on beefing my Vectis prime up (I had a riven for it anyways, and now I have Primed Chamber, so yay,) because it NEVER needs to reload. I can fire it as fast as it can fire, the end. If it plays out the way I'm hoping (seems to be, so far, but only one test run thus far) it'll end up letting me avoid that. It IS lower damage, but I still need to roll that riven more AND it wants a couple more forma, so we'll see how it goes.

Once again, thank you everyone for your help. I have no doubt that we'll keep playing around with this, but you've (mostly) all been a big help!

  8. Thank you all for your replies. They're (mostly,) extremely helpful, and thorough enough that they left me with almost no followups. I'd need to play around with them before I really have more to add.

Because some advice got repeated, a lot of it I'll try to address in more general fashion. First up a question I got asked:

So you don't want meta, or builds, or warframe suggestions. What exactly do you want? That rules out even the above posts.

If you don't want to do it efficiently, then just keep on keeping on.

I pasted the whole thing because SHArK-FiN answered this perfectly. It does not rule out the above posts, except perhaps on the most rules-lawyer-ing sort of grounds. I'm here for information and understanding, not a regurgitated solution. In short, what exactly I want is the how and why such things function, not the what. Of course I want to do it more efficiently. 'tis the point of the entire post. I want to understand what makes things efficient or worthwhile, not just a 'here, do X', but a 'this is why things like X work'. That's something that all resources I've checked so far are sort of lacking in. I don't want to know the metagame, I want to know the root sources that made the metagame what it is.

Thank you very much for the explanations on what sort of weapons work, and why. Gives me a lot of ideas of things to play around with, as well as the explanations of what's up with the whole Shraksun thing that everyone keeps banging on about.

The explanation of the exact mechanics behind Volt's Shield were also very welcome, as although I've used Volt a lot, my understanding of exactly how the shield plays with different weapons (and especially the difference in how it hands IPS and pure elemental weapons!) as well as the fact that it's a flat doubling of Crit damage. I'll have to look into exactly how Power Strength plays with that, but it sounds like that might be more valuable for what we're trying to do. We may be able to go without, I'm not sure, but it's really nice to know that it's a good, strong option.

Special thanks goes to the breakdown of exactly how Shattering Impact works and the differences between that and Corrosive Projection, and the concepts of Base Armour versus Net Armour; all things I never really knew or grasped properly before. That actually has a lot of implications for me beyond just doing that.

Cheers, good people. I will let you know results and outcomes after I've had some time to tinker.

  9. So, a brief history here.

I'm not super 'up' on the whole Eidolon thing. I've mostly been doing them with a clanmate of late because they're kinda into it, and I need the Quills' Rep. But, I can't resist rising to a challenge. So, I figured I'd ask a few questions, get some advice.

For the record: we're able to successfully 2-man down the first two Eidolons with only mild difficulty, but it's the lack of knowing some of the advanced mechanics that's holding us back a bit.

Before going on, the usual disclaimers:

    • I am NOT looking for 'the meta' answers, that is not what I am asking
    • I am NOT looking for an exact build, that is not what I am asking
    • I am NOT looking to be told which Warframes are viable, that is not what I am asking
    • I am NOT looking to form a group or do 3x3s, or 4x3s, or whatever; that is not what I am asking

With that said, I'm hoping some kind soul will explain a few cans worth of worms for me. So, in no particular order:

    • A lot of recommendations for tackling Eidolons one-on-one (or with a small group) suggest using Shattering Impact to remove Eidolon Armour to boost Damage. Is that a thing?
    • I've flipped-flopped a lot back and forth between Archguns and Sniper Rifles, and I've had a really hard time deciding what's more effective. I usually mod for Radiation, but there's often an IPS compoenent (been using the Rubico Prime and the Imperator (if I'm spelling that right) Vandal, respectively.Would something purely elemental be better?
    • I've also tried playing around with the Euphona Prime, which has had some success. None of them seems to fully 'work' with my playstyle on the Plains, though. Are there any other weapons or weapon types that stand up well to the Eidolons?
    • The vomvalyst swarm has been a continual thorn in our sides. I've seen people basically nuke down Eidolons immediately. Is this entirely due to (I think) Madurai? I don't think I've put a lot into that school, but I almost chose it as my starter over Zenurik, and with that finished I'm looking for a second one to seriously start chewing at.
    • A lot of recommendations make a very big deal over the need to heal the lures. Is this absolutely critical?
      • If so, what can heal them? I know Trinity and Oberon can, but anything else?
    • So far, it seems like the best thing to actually take down Eidolons are 'anti-tank' weapons: high damage, high crit chance, fast firing weapons that ignore status. Is that accurate?
    • Does the Eidolon have a 'head'? In a mechanical sense, I mean. Can it be headshot for sniper bonuses?
    • So, despite having run in public groups a few times before, I have never fully understood why 'the meta' is what it is, beyond the fact that Chroma boosts ally damage and you can fire through Volt's shield to add electric damage. But isn't electric less effective against the Eidolon's armour? Is there something useful here I'm missing? A few suggestions for small group have focused on Volt.
    • Everyone seems to recommend a... Shwarksun? I think? Brace. I have never built an amp using that one (I never had an interest in it). How does it work, and why is it so much better?
      • If you want to talk in depth about amps, please keep in mind, I have never, ever gotten a hang of the Amp numbering/Lettering system. Please use the names or reference what they do. I do want to understand, but that entire classification system genuinely seems to escape me.
    • Our current model has been one of us tries to nuke down the Eidolon (once all shields are gone) and the other one holds off the swarm. Is this actually a good idea, or is it a better one for both of us to try and dump damage on them?

To anyone who address any of these, thank you. I'll try to reply with more information and reactions as needed!

Edit: Edited the name & opening because it overflowed the original reason for posting this.

  10. Something that used to trip me up is that when the red light flashes for the first time it seems to work like a stealth Juggernaut: IE: kill as much as fast as possible. If you kill the magic number, then boom, Larvaling. Fail, and it doesn't turn up. Other than that, make sure all your requirements are correct and yes, sometimes, it bugs out and you can't get one to spawn. When this happens, I find that usually either the Sortie Reset or the Daily Tribute Reset will knock some sense into things and let them start spawning again.

  11. So, let's talk about Volt as a caster.

I tend to run my volt somewhat similarly, and it's definitely doable. But there's defiantly some things you need to keep in mind about how his powers work. I can't promise to be an expert, these are just things I have noticed and found to be 'a thing'. I'm not sure if they're actually true or not, but they might be able to help you.

    1: The Duration Problem.

So, Volt has this weird relationship with Power Duration. His Numbers 2, 3, and 4 all use it. And his number 4 can scale up damage with Duration. Going faster, longer, can be nice, but isn't super necessary for a spellblade kind of a build. That shield staying up longer can be a lifesaver, though, especially on higher difficulties. and 50 Energy in an energy hungry frame can be a HUGE drain if you're not careful (its cost to cast). Buuuuuut then we get to his number 4.

So, the thing about his Discharge (don't take that out of context) is that it works by sending out this wave of electricity. That... Then bounces between nearby enemies, shocking them and doing more damage each time it bounces. The longer the duration, the longer it lasts. But then you're going to want to recast it when most of the enemies die. So, too long a duration, you'll have issues recasting it. Too short, you'll miss out on a lot of potential damage. It's very much a 'to taste' sort of thing.  I've found that I like it between 150-200% Duration, but your mileage is likely to vary.

    2: Volt. He squish.

Volt is squishy as all #*!%.  And he's super shield-y. You'll want some way to overcome this on higher levels. So far, building for shields can kinda work, as some of his powers restore shields, and if you stick some of the Augur set on him, as a caster, you'll get shields back fairly regularly. So that can be a way to go. I've... Honestly only had mixed results with Adaptation on him, but I'm still tinkering. He might just not have enough base health to work with Adaptation, I'm not sure. The shield (his No.3) is excellent, but you REALLY have to watch your back if you're relying on that to keep you up and running.

3: Shock. It gets weird with Range.

You're going to want high range on a caster Volt, for obvious reasons. But Shock goes... A bit weird with Range. I still haven't entirely grasped it, but it seems (at least visually) like it stops chaining from enemy to enemy exactly and instead hits an enemy, jumps up into the sky, and then strikes down a nearby enemy within its range, repeat. Or sometimes it just won't chain. I'm not exactly sure why this is, and I'm still trying to come to terms with it, but what I've found is that it's often more effective just to weapon a small group down rather than relying on a long range Shock if the first 1/2 tries fails. Gotta keep that energy up.

    4: Weapons

I actually really like the Ferrox notion described above.  It sounds like a nice aesthetic thing. I, myself, use the Amprex and the Quatz. I don't have any reason for doing this beyond the fact that they look 'lightning-y' and I wanted to roll with a theme. The Amprex does lower my reliance on Shock for small groups, though, and the Quatz deals with the heavies well. Usually, though, I'm only dealing with a heavy after a discharge has wiped out everything else around them and can no longer damage them.

Hope this helps you and gives you some ideas on some of the things to prepare for and be ready to try and conquer and counteract. Best of luck, mate!

I honestly have had tons of issues spawning a larvling for a while now ,after my 4th lich even after 50+ missions of adaro and cassini and other missions they never spawn. After the recent hotfixes they must have broken something, because holy hell spawning the others never was this hard.

Yeeeeeah... The third one took about 10-15 missions, because I ran into the infamous 'Larvling doesn't get picked up after being murdered' bug, but it spawned in easily enough. I could see this being an issue. I guess I'll just keep trying. Still hoping to hear from someone who's had one spawn in on Assassination missions, too.

  13. 3 minutes ago, Chan said:

Hi, another requirement not mentioned here is that you need to kill a certain ammount of enemies as well, not just a lvl 20+ mission. Cassini is a great mission to get kuva larvlings to spawn, so I would suggest that if you're looking for good places. The place they take over is irrelevant is you have probably noticed from where they were born.

As for the "does kuva liches spawn in assasinations" I do believe they can.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the whole Cassini farm spot. I just don't want my Lich List to keep saying that like... Half of them are from there. XD I want to spread them out.

The enemy thing is something I never knew about though, thank you! That might have been the issue, cheers, Chan.

  14. So, I'm still playing with the system, but I can confirm you can have multiple Liches converted to your side at once. It'll randomly pick one to show up in missions when they spawn in. So far mine are both level 30, but I also converted them both at level 2, so I'll have to see if the ranking makes any difference.

  15. A hopefully easy one, this time, so not going to put the usual disclaimers.

Please note the following before answering:

I understand about Kuva Liches, broadly, I'm on my third one downed. Two from Saturn, one from Sedna. I know that they spawn in any level 20+ Grineer node that is a "normal mission". This was defined as being "non-syndicate, non-fissure, non-sortie". So far so good. So I was browsing around for interesting places to spawn them, and I noticed that Oro, on earth, is level 20-25.

I've run it a few times now, and so I suppose I could just be having bad luck. But do Kuva Larvlings spawn in Assassinations missions? Or am I simply spinning my wheels hoping on this one?

A thank you to anyone who replies with some sort of definitive answer.

  16. So, after having two liches park themselves on Lua as their starting area and attempting to run the Lua Spy mission for the fourth time, I've found a series of issues with it. Not the normal version, the Kuva Lich One. Details Below:

    • Node: Pavlov
    • Mission Type: Kuva Lich Spy in the Lua Tileset
    • Issue 1: In the Starmap, the mission is listed as "<Lich Name> Controlled Territory: Exterminate - Grineer". But entering it will reveal it to by a spy.
      • How to Reproduce: Have you Kuva Lich Start on Lua (Unsure if this works if a Lich spreads influence to Lua
    • Issue 2: Spy Vaults do not give any rewards.
      • How to Reproduce: Successfully complete the vaults. I've completed 2 vaults as Loki once, and the other three times I used Limbo and got all three. There are NO spy rewards listed in the mission overview, and I see none in my inventory.
    • Issue 3: The Orokin Security Run Vault (The one with all the lasers, the timed buttons, and the cold panel floor sequences that slowly closing doors attempt to wall you out of. NOT the one with the huge drops you have to parkour over) has a issue with its pop-up security terminals (the ones inset into one half of the round cover pieces that rise up as a half-circle column). When you use them with the new Parazon animation, the end of the animation gets you stuck inside the pillar, forcing you to use /unstuck to remove yourself. (Operator doesn't work).
      • How to Reproduce: Use the security terminals with the Parazon.

Hopefully this helps you track this one down!

I am pretty sure the punch through comment was sarcastic

Ah. Thanks for clarifying. I have basically no experience with the stug up through now, so I'd tend to assume in a thread asking for advice on it, people would stay reasonably on topic. Will I ever learn? But thank you for the clarity. Still likely to try it after that comment and after my own experiences with it. A little punchthrough might actually make it pretty decent for crowds, where you want to stick it on the dude in the middle. Or let it slip past thin barriers. I'll let people know what I find.

As a side note: The damage on this thing, while delayed, is massive if you just straight up boost for damage/multishot. Fulmination also seems to help. It's... Kinda slow, but if you don't mind moving at a less breakneck pace and can work around its... Unique points, it might be a pretty solid....I might try it with Atlas, actually, as he's a little bit slower paced as well.

  18. Thank you, everyone who's posted.

The fact that the crits on the bubbles generally aren't worth it (my Riven doesn't have innate Crit on it, so I'm not even going to try that route at the moment. It's +Electricity, + Toxic, +Damage to Infested) so I'm going to see what I can do with this whole idea of clumping enemies together instead and pumping up my damage as high as I can.

The shooting arc is a little wonky, but I got used to the Dread and the Lenz, I can probably adapt with practice. And maybe Lethal Momentum.

As far as the multiplayer issues... I am largely a solo player. I've tried playing with other people but, frankly, I don't like most people I've ever encountered in this game. (My experience with the slice of the Warframe Community I've encountered is largely extremely 'meh' with rare spikes of absolute delight and several repeated horrible encounters. At least most of the people generally leave you alone, though.) There's a very short list where "people I've enjoyed running with" and "people actually active on my friends list" overlap, and I'm usually either shy enough or forgetful enough that I rarely try to organize any sort of organised runs. I'll go public for relic openings, and that's about it. I could probably put a lot more effort into organizing stuff, but at that point I'll be spending more of my energy on wrangling and less on playing the game. Have not, as of yet, sadly, been able to have a running mate with any sort of consistency for more than about a week or so; although I will acknowledge my play schedule is also very random.

It's one of the reasons I've been enjoying my time with the Kuva Lich System - It's felt very much like higher-end solo content, which is a lot my thing - but that's a different post.

The punch through one I in no way understand nor can image. Launcher-type weapons and Punchthrough tend to be a bad mix, from my experience, but now I'm going to have to try it to see how it goes.

The several people who mentioned grouping enemies together and being able to spray them down have given me some notions of hope for this weapon. I have... An insanely wonky idea, now, involving Mirage, the Stug, and Zenurik's Void Singularity. I am going to try and out and let people know how it goes.

(It just doesn't become worth mentioning at any stage...)

Welp, I'm going to be joining you. It... SOUNDS like it should be a minelayer type weapon, from the one person who's posted. If... You'd like to share anything - anything at all - that you might possibly have to offer that might even have the least, tinest, amount of possibility - please, lemme know. But otherwise... Yeah. I'm... Wincing slightly.

Ah, the Stug. If you like blowing yourself up, it's the gun for you.

This is a very old weapon. It showed up some time after U10. Back then, it was quite powerful and a menace to use. The explosive globs stick to everything and sometimes aren't readily apparent. Then you step on one...

We used to use it on Derelict and Orokin defenses. Derelict when you could stand on the walls above the pod rain sticky, explosive hell on whatever ran into range down below. It was (kinda) handy on Orokin defenses, since you could cover the stairways down to the pod with explosive blobs and woe betide anything that touched them--including you when you forgot about just how much crap the thing spews out and how hard to see the globs sometimes are.

It's a weird weapon that never really fit in all that well and was a true hazard to use. The above merely touches on the assorted ways the thing could kill you. I don't think I've touched mine in at least four years.

Well, that sounds promising! XD I love that I've apparently decided to go down this trail of tears. Hooooooo boy. Maybe I'll stick it on the Wuclone and see if he can make something of it. It sounds like this is an insanely niche weapon, though, and not the sort of thing you could bring casually into a situation and be okay.

  21. So, I once again have some questions about a warframe or a weapon that is not considered sort of standard.

Because of some responses I've gotten in the past, allow me to say the following:

    • I am not looking for suggestions for other things to play. That is not what I am asking.
    • I do not want to know that X is a better version of what I am asking about. That is not what I am asking.
    • I'm not interested in whether or not something is good or not. That is not what I am asking.
    • I do not want an exact way to build the frame. I like figuring out builds, and I am asking for advice, not a how-to.
    • I do not generally ask bullet-point questions. There is no summary, there is no shortcut to what I'm looking for, you will actually have to read my post.

With that out of the way, let's talk about how much I hate myself. I mean the Stug.

I understand that there are some people that use the Stug. I understand that there are some people who like the Stug. If you fit into that category, then you are decidedly one of the people I am reaching out to today.

I do not like the Stug. I do not understand the Stug. It... Seems like a good idea, on paper, anyway, and for the longest time I thought it was the weapon that the Grineer Noxes used, and with how devastating I found them coming up through the starchart, I thought it'd be wonderful to have some revenge. But then I noticed it had 5.0% Crit chance. And then I saw the 0.0% status chance.

And then I went and read the wiki. The wiki is... Something I find vaguely helpful, but in this case I don't quite get how I'm... Using it. Like, am I doing it right? Am I doing it wrong? What am I doing?

I have modded mine with Viral Damage, as I thought that'd be a nice workable combo, as the explosions from the balls (I think, I assume I'm understanding this right) do have a status chance. But I can't... Really tell from the Arsenal screen. I've been using Multishot mods as well, just to add more balls, and Fulmination, to try and make them bigger and cover more of the enemies. And Hornet Strike, naturally.

But the weapon... Doesn't really... Work. At least, I can't make it work. Around about level 20-30 it just stops, dead. On paper it's doing over 3K damage a shot, but I can't get it to get through anything. Is this one of those weapons with a specialized purpose that I don't understand?

So why do this? Why even ask about this? Because, the other day, I opened up a Riven for it. And I promised myself I'd try - Try - to work with any weapon I got a riven for, no matter how I felt about it. In a number of cases, my thoughts haven't changed, but for a lot of them I often found new appreciation for the weapons, sometimes enough that I made them a part of my builds). So, here I am. Although this also means I'd love to hear advice about what sort of things work well on Stug rivens, and what it means you can do with the build that you couldn't normally.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to put up a useful or on-point response. :)
