i figured out how to fix Defection

Currently defection requires of you to hack a door, then escort 1 group of "defectors", then another group of defectors, then another group of defectors. After 4 groups go through Red Veil's "goons" attack.

This is flawed, especially since the defectors are low leveled, easy to kill, and infested is the only enemy type with no link to lephantis nor any orokin entity.

How to fix Defection:

Link the game mode to the Second Dream, create a different variation of the infestation called "Synthetic" infestation, put in a very small group of grineer for every X waves of synthetic infested. Grineer do not deal with Ospreys nor Moa type infested, and this was not intended to remove the Corpus variant of the infested, but let's face it, infestation was meant to be a hybrid of Grineer and Corpus, how about just having the Grineer focused infested. And you need to add "Hyper" synthetic infested which would spawn in about 3 every 5 groups of enemies which would be 40% more heath and damage, 40% bigger, and 30% faster.

Red Veil are an Ally to Steel Miridian, have them as an "ally". Red Veil will randomly spawn in with a group of defectors to "escort" the group, with red veil popping in to say "hey we like Steel Miridian and the Tenno won't be having all the fun" but they're slightly weaker than the level of the enemies. And as Red Veil "escorts" the group, they pass by all the heal towers only getting whatever brief healing. Bonus points if you program the Red Veil escort team so they only trigger an attack on the tenno if they were alerted to being attacked by the tenno where if they are taken out by a stealth weapon no attack is triggered, but if taken out by an alarming weapon an attack is triggered. And the Red Veil team can possibly escort a group of defectors adding to the players count.

Remember that the "air" of this mission mode is "toxic". So while there are to be a handful of grineer every like 3 groups of "synthetic" infested but they take damage at the same percentage as the defectors. The trick here is that one of the grineer could randomly convert into defecting and upon successfully escorting to the evacuation ship counts as a group escorted. The Grineer should not trigger this random behavior until 25% of the grineer's HP is lost (by any means including atmosphere). Note that Nox is never going to have this random chance.

This periodic damage needs to also effect the medi towers, they are to lose 1% healing potential per 3-5 seconds.

Without ospreys, how will the tenno get the towers to heal? well the warframe stands next to the tower and "channels" health into it. 1% tower health per 3 points of shield or 1 HP of the Warframe. While channeling the warframe cannot do anything except press ESC which would cancel the channeling.

"But MageSkeleton i don't want to rely on having a healing frame to do this mission" i hear you other person commenting in the future, and i have foreseen this seemingly oversight. The Synthetic infested has a 35% chance to drop a health orb as part of it's loot table, regardless of Nekros, Nezha, or whatever frame that can populate additional health orbs. Yes those are populated on top of the drop chance. And this drop chance does not exist on the "Hyper" variant.

i know this means adding in a whole new type of infested that's just going to be a different color of the existing infested and barring some of the more threatening infested but trust me this will fix Defection.

What is the objective in "fixing defection"?

I read your concept: I would not play this. It sounds to be about the same as it is currently, just with more pointless things that happen.

Do you intend for the periodic damage to hurt the players too?

  • What is the logic in it affecting everything but the player?

Currently, Defection is this really messy mission type that's about as disliked as interception was, except that it actually doesn't work unless you have infested regardless of the Sortie enemy type. This concept would at least allow some amount of Grineer or Corpus to actually be in the mission. The only thing i really didn't put that much thought into (in my opinion) is the healing towers which the shield/health to tower ratio should be a higher input or otherwise charge overtime being attackable and yes, having 3 sources of defectors separates everyone so i feel i should had added in that there should only be 2 sources at any given time.

The things i'm proposing as changes would not be "pointless" things because as is defection treats Red Veil as this radical disorganized obstructive cult that Steel Miridian is allies with "just because". These changes, if at least the Red Veil escort portion of this concept, would actually put Red Veil in the position of "being an ally to the syndicate who wants you to do the mission".

I can understand the spores not effecting the player because of the Oro thing and the warframe itself is effectively infested flesh, i was considering how the Vampire Mode worked for Nightmare missions where you would take periodic damage but then doing damage healed you 5x the damage your taking periodically. Which in turn would make the proposed "Tower restoring" method make more sense, and i know i didn't explain that too well.

The reason I said the changes were pointless is because you do not address the primary issue. For me, the only thing that matters is just how tedious the mission is. It is incredibly boring. Your changes will not do anything for this, it will still be tedious. (The fact that it is so easy to cheese contributes to that)

IMHO defection should really be round-filed along with archwing. However, since I don't forsee that happening- I have to agree- the concept OP has proposed is flawed and doesn't address any of the key issues with it. Aside from just being a very boring mission-type, defection suffers from severe pathing issues where there are a few tiles that make the mode literally impossible to win unless you bring a loki for switch teleport because the defectors will clip through the floor and walk into a corner and just sit there whining until they die, and they'll do it every single time. So if you're wanting to complete the star-chart for the new 'elite alerts' I sure hope you have a loki, a friend with a loki, or get lucky in a pug, because otherwise this isn't happening for you. Thankfully i've had loki for about 5 years or so, but i honestly feel quite sorry for anyone who doesn't and wants to do the elite alerts. Honestly this is a major issue that should've really been addressed a long time ago. Nobody willingly plays defection for fun because it's not. Between boring escort mission, non-challenging enemies, and broken ai pathing- it's generally avoided unless absolutely necessary for a specific drop or unlock.
