Heavy Caliber vs Piercing Caliber

(NSW)Nintendork3D

Question

Someone mind explaining this?  On my Opticor Vandal, I'm experimenting Heavy Caliber vs Piercing Caliber.  Now despite Heavy adding +165% damage and piercing caliber only adds +120% puncture damage, piercing caliber is actually adding more overall total damage and puncture damage than heavy caliber is.  Can someone explain this?

Thanks.

Opticors 1000 damage multiplied by serration and heavy calibers 330% increase is 4300 damage

Opticor has 85% puncture damage, so 850 is boosted by 1.2 from piercing caliber

1000+(850x1.2)=2020

2020+(2020x1.65)=5353

This is one of the few times that a physical mod will give more paper DPS due to the high % of a weapon being in one damage type

on top of Serration, i assume?

Heavy Caliber on top of Serration:
2.65 + 1.65 == 4.3 / 2.65 == 1.6226x

Piercing Caliber on top of Serration:
(280 * 2.65) + (120 * 2.65) == 742 + 318
(742 * 2.2) + 318 == 1,950.4
1950.4 / (742 + 318) == 1.84x

so yes, Piercing Caliber would add more Damage than Heavy Caliber on top of Serration would.
since you already have +165% Damage (2.65x), and another +165% on top of that is ~62.3% more Damage than you had previously.

however, keep in mind that Heavy Caliber applies to Mods like Elemental Damage, while Piercing Caliber does not. and the Health Types of the Enemies you end up shooting at, Et Cetera.
