The Adaptive player experience AKA Difficulty 2.0

What grabs any new player on a game?

A new experience, an experience the player doesn't recognize. Something different and unknown. A new experience that is both enjoyable and challenging. 

Right now we have...

 

Tile set missions

Open world bounties

Normal and steel path difficulty

Sorties and arbitrations

Fissures

Timed events

 

 

We have predictable tasks to complete in the game, all with variables given to the player before they start. There is no unknown other than when the stalker or other various factions may pay a visit to players in game or if you are in a pubg if you are going to have a competent team who wants to work together towards the objective or maybe has the same mindset as you to camp in a dead end hallway in defense or survival missions. We also have predictable maps and tile sets that even though are random in layout share their own similar structure.

We don't have the new player experience on a casual basis. Warframe is complex but predictable. 

 

What Warframe misses in difficulty and the new player feeling for late game is Enemy AI and random unknown encounters/missions. Where the task and enemy are unknown to the player. Maybe there is a mission timer for a spy run and you have 3 minutes to hack all the terminals but there is an ice proc all around the map and the map is full of buffed steel path level ambulas. The enemy's may have special random boosts like attack speed or movement speed or increased damage or sudden viral procs on the player. The map may change its layout and enemy type on the spot in the game (go through a door and you go from grineer tile set to orokin. We may have a sudden army of stalkers seal team 6 in on the player while they are quickly speed running an exterminate mission. The mission and enemy are unknown to the player. Players bring what Warframe they think may be able to handle the task that is unkown to them. Rewards? Oh there best be something good, cosmetics (fashion frame), built formas of various types, catalysts and reactors, rare mods only available through those missions etc. Things only obtainable through these random missions. 

 

We need that new player experience/feeling back. Something unknown to the players. Something random and challenging. Just my thought.

Like how Kuva Liches originally RNG auto killed you? Careful what you wish for... I'd like to see DE get back to basics, no more gimmicks, no more obtuse puzzles or taking away your hard earned gear and abilities, let's just shoot and slash and melt all the things until they're all dead. Do what WF has always done best.

Well it has to be able to be an enjoyable experience, those Lich experiences were not enjoyable. I think DE's ambitions are getting in the way of what they were doing well at.
