Steam Workshop FAQ: Start Here

Recommended Posts

Do you have the technical skill and know-how to make textures? Have you ever wanted to see your designs in Warframe? TennoGen Steam Workshop is how to do just that!

TennoGen Steam Workshop is Warframe content created by Tenno, for Tenno. Submit your designs and you could see them for sale inside Warframe! TennoGen artists will receive 30% of the Steam sale of their items that are accepted via the program and implemented in-game.

This FAQ will have all the information you’ll need to get started. Please note that to submit skins you will need a considerable amount of experience with texturing and various software. All skins will be reviewed by members of the Digital Extremes art department. TennoGen pieces will be added into Warframe in “Rounds” throughout the year.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

See our guide here on everything you need to know: Steam Workshop Guide

We have developed a small program (Warframe Tennogen) that will allow you to upload your assets to the Steam Workshop. The Tennogen utility will also allow you to preview your assets via a WebGL viewer that is running an approximation of our in game shader.

The previewer uses the same arrangement of textures that your asset needs to work in Warframe and it will help you develop an asset that will colour well when our player customize it. The help documentation is linked within the Tennogen utility and can be accessed directly here: https://warframe.com/steamworkshop/help/

Download the Tool here from Steam by searching for 'Warframe TennoGen', the App ID is 396050.

WHAT KIND OF ITEMS CAN I SUBMIT?

The following items will be open for TennoGen skin design submissions:

  • All 55 Warframes: Skin (texture) and Alt Helmet (texture/remodel)
  • Syandanas
  • Landing Craft Skins
  • Operator Accessories
  • Select Melee Weapon Skins
  • Select Primary and Secondary Weapon Skins
  • Chest Armor Pieces Shoulder
  • Shoulder & Leg Armor Pieces

HOW ARE SUBMISSIONS CHOSEN?

Submissions are chosen by Digital Extremes based on quality and creativity. We will consider the popularity of skins as deemed by the Tenno, but we will be making the final call on what we add to the game. For information on why a skin was Rejected, see here

HOW MUCH WILL I MAKE?

If your skin is chosen, you will make 30% of each sale. This 30% is a percentage of the cash transaction, not Platinum Currency. A curated selection of items is available on Consoles for Platinum, following the completion of a licensing agreement with the Artists -- we will contact you privately with details if your item is chosen for transfer.

I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TEXTURING. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If you don't know a lot about Texturing, we have made many resources available here: https://warframe.com/steamworkshop/help/index.php?page=content-creator-art-style-guide

Note that we only will accept the highest quality submissions, and you are encouraged to master the tools before you submit. While it is possible for talented, relatively new artists to succeed, please be aware that TennoGen is not necessarily intended for beginner artists.

HOW OFTEN IS DIGITAL EXTREMES ADDING TENNOGEN SKINS INTO THE GAME?

We aim to add TennoGen Skins to the game as frequently as we can. This is dependent on the development team schedule and also the number of items currently for review in the workshop. Keep an eye on this subforum for announcements as to the next Round deadline!

I DON’T USE STEAM. HOW DO I GET THE SKINS?

If you’re a PC Tenno, you can purchase TennoGen content in-game if the client is launched via the Steam Launcher, or via the TennoGen store on Steam. Console Tenno also have access to a curated selection of TennoGen items in the Market for Platinum.

I CAN’T SUBMIT ANYTHING. WHAT GIVES?

If you can't submit anything and you know you've set up everything correctly, it's possible you have a Limited User Account on Steam. To unlock certain community features, including submissions to the Steam Workshop, users must spend $5 USD in Steam. You can read about the policy on Steam here: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/71D3-35C2-AD96-AA3A

HOW DO I GET FEEDBACK ON MY ITEM?

We try to give as much feedback as we can to community artists, but we recommend reviewing our “Reasons for Rejection” guide for common issues we see with pieces: https://www.warframe.com/steamworkshop/help/index.php?page=some-reasons-for-rejection

Feedback is offered following Round deadlines to items or artists we feel may have potential for future acceptance. You are welcome to contact us for critiques around this time, and we will offer feedback at the team’s discretion.

Critiques will not be offered outside of that deadline cadence, so make sure you’re submitting your pieces on time!

If you want to hear what the community or fellow artists think, feel free to use these subforums or the TennoGen section of our Discord to share your work.

Greetings, Tenno! This new post is a simple refresh of information that combines the previously pinned posts, "Steam Workshop Launch + FAQ" and "Steam Workshop Questions, Answers, & Bug Reports" -- those posts are now unpinned, but still up for posterity! This new thread is not indicative of any major TennoGen program update, but is simply an initiative to improve readability. Cheers!

The Konvalyst Oculus is clipping quite noticably into many of the female faces and some of the males. It seems to be static and thus isn't conforming to the face regardless of face type or blend. This leads to issues where the lower part of the model near the cheek bones is clipping into the face and being cut off.

This is most noticable on the female faces due to them typically having larger cheek bones. While on the male faces it is much less noticable with only a few of the faces causing clipping.

This issue is also shared with a few other items like the Revanant Mephisto Mask. As it also holds close to the face and the parts under the eyes aren't morphing/conforming. I am including a imgur gallery to show the issue, on multiple faces. As well as what I assume is the intended look on one of the male faces.

I don't think this is the intended behaviour, so I hope this bug can be resolved.

Regarding the texture resolution of the Arca Plasmor, the in-game texture resolution is quite different from the standard Tennogen asset in-game resolution, and I get the impression it doesn't use the same texture resolution other Tennogen items use. When testing different texture sizes, the Tennogen in-game resolution appears significantly lower fidelity than the actual in-game Arca Plasmor, which seems closest to a 1024x1024 texture resolution for all textures. For a clear reference, I compared the beehive Corpus emblem in various resolutions:

auitckY.jpeg

Since the Arca Plasmor's UV map is so dense, texture space is quite limited, and downscaling to the Tennogen in-game resolution results in a significant loss of texture detail on even the default skin.

I would like to know what the intended texture resolutions are for Tennogen Arca Plasmor skins, whether the tintmask should still be half the resolution of the other maps, and if other items are also different from the listed technical specs in the Tennogen documentation.
