is every mission aboard a space ship?

Yes.

Currently, every mission will be on spaceships. the procedural level generator works like lego or dominos, so the pieces need to be modular enough to allow for the generator to piece levels together randomly. Spaceships are modular, so they lent themselves to this with ease. Now, if DE wishes to enter a new tileset, they'd need to find a new thing that is modular by nature. :)

Or Valve fan.

Sincerely though, techno jungles, disrepaired derilect outposts, and Japanese cyber fuedal castles would be nice tilesets.

Or an Eve Player..

Someones going to have a lawsuit over this, if the companies of EVE, Blacklight, Valve and Firefall have all Trademarked "Soon"

They should have missions upon jungle planets, or like on earth the grineers enslave the humans, and we, the tennos, could have lots of generated missions to free X amount of slaves for endless fun

It'd be like this :

- Enter mission

- Find slave workers

- Defeat every Grineer

- Once every slave is freed, find and kill the boss of the sector's Grineer

- Escort X amount of slaves to extraction

And penalized for every worker who dies following you.

The Evolution engine doesn't strike me as a feasible platform for rendering foliage, especially that of a jungle. I would be expecting severe performance losses. And the procedural level generation would make a "jungle map" rather odd.

well it's modular so it might work if they make it really good... like only certain module blocks to fit with others and bla bla bla ... it would actually be nice... the foliage is a problem but i think it can be solved if they put some thought into it

You could make anything Proceduraly generated. You just have to think about it. Have a happy little list! Woooo!

Caves/Mines - Can be generated in a room by room basis, can have some that lead to dead ends and some that don't. With mineshafts and elevators there's no reason why they can't.

Biodomes- Esentially a city setting on other planets. Can have it made on a tile basis like the spaceships, just have blockages in the roads, essentially make some methods of travle unpassable for some reason or another. Get inventive. Have Lazer tripwire walls or somthing that you can't deactivate.

Jungles/Forests- This is still possible, the tiles will just have to be larger to accomodate the outdoorsy areas and still give it a "I'm outside and not in a leafy spaceship" feel.

Plains/Wide Open Outdoors- Less likely but still possible. They would have to impede the players visual LOS and movement ro prevent wandering into tiles that arent ment to be encountered yet. OR opperate it like the Biodome and just have one massive open space that has to be transversed. Tenno space bikes would be radical, So vehicle combat could become a possibility then.

Desert- See above! ^^^ Vibration sensitive sandworms would be fun here.

Snow/Tundra- A mix of all of the above essentially. Just changing the scenery... everything white and grey and not green/lush.

Low orbit Space- Would be awesome to have several large battleships orbiting along a planet and small tenno ships between them. So it becomes a fight In space on top of the ships. Having small enemy fighters attack and all. This is more like the open space one but the majority of open space tiles are... space... They could get crazy with the enviornment and have a space battle going on in the background and all.

On Top of water Battleships- Same as space just instead of the empty tiles being space they're water. Biggest issue is preventing players from killing things that can't get to them.

Just a few ideas. for some reason i feel like I missed a few. Let me know if you have a question about an area in particular and i'll do my best to BS some imaginative reasons to make it work. It's all in HOW the level is designed. Not what it's designed about. Some logical limitations of course, but it's the price to pay for varity.

Hey, at least it's not an Epic/Mark Rein Two Weeks. 'Cuz that's, like, literally, forever. And by "literally" I mean "metaphorically".

No source, just a speculation, mostly based on the simplicity of indoors for procedurally created maps.

I'm afraid this is going to be the case as well. I love the gameplay here, really do, but if the maps are going to be this boring across the board, well, I don't think many people are going to stick with in in the long run.

They need to have maps, that at least give you the illusion that you're outdoors.

dont really have a problem with maps being like this as long as they make more area variety as an example Phantasy Star Online 2 has the same sort of set up with randomly generated maps but they are outdoors it even has the dynamic mission system in 2 (called CODES) and that games has forests, tunderas, mines, ruins, citys and even a robot factory so its not like the randomly placed tile system stops these sort of enviroments from being created, what is the question is how will these larger more open segments effect the game engines proformance?

Just yes to all of the above. Any of those would be simply amazing!
